Because it’s *hard enough*, waddling through commuter land or having your brain freezer-burned in the supermarket milk aisle, without some Herbert daring to brush your side, or touch your hand in reaching for the same pint of chocolate shake? We blanche. We frown. But what would you do if, apropos of nothing, someone just came and glommed you like a limpet, while you were reading this…Ivo has a faceful of fries when Mirna does just that… Artwork by Sam Vickers.

Written by and featuring Alice-Rose Murray. The city is a lonely place without money or a job. The shopfront signs that buzz with bargains, offers and deals you might dream of consuming in a better life. The artificial lights that drone and the conversations simmering in the cafes, people with more purpose than you may ever have, with no-one or no place to be awake for in the morning. It can breed jealousy and bitterness. Listen, as our narrator wanders around at dawn, a tour guide with sharpened teeth as she contemplates these exhausted streets and more terrible things... We all have those jokes, games, names and pieces of wordplay that are a kind of secret dialect between us and that other intimate person: a lover, a best friend. And to those around us, we might as well be speaking another language altogether. How many times have we said ‘you had to be there, really’ with a laugh of ever-decreasing conviction: ‘Oh, that’s one for me and Chris.’ These things form the backbone of intimacy. In this piece, our narrator and his lover share the hobby of eavesdropping on people’s conversations, and report them back diligently during pillow talk. At first, it’s a game that thrills…

Train journeys, wouldn't you say they're a breeding ground for daydreams? You look around; it would be a faux pas to speak! You're in a social vacuum with only your own thoughts. Streams of new data enter your cognition. An interchange of people getting on/alighting - "Who's this chick? What's her deal? She looked at me! What does she want?" With this in mind, enter Hannah Smith, with a filthy mind and some time to kill on the Victoria Line.

'The Trick' Written by Jay Lawrance and featuring Alice-Rose Murray. Have you ever woken up from a night out and wondered what you said, or did? Did you get that queasy feeling you upset someone, or made a fool of yourself? Leaving the house of a colleague, our narrator spends her arduous walk home trying to piece it all together.
