We have had many discussions about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on our humble little podcast. In recent months, we have also talked a lot about Osgood Perkins. We never thought the two of them would come together. The rumor is that may be happening. The question becomes, is that a good thing? We are big enough to admit when we are wrong. Last week, we correctly predicted that the new Final Destinations movie would be number one a the box office. In doing so, we were very dismissive of the franchise. We referred to it as second rate and its box office success would be due to there being little competition. As it turns out, Bloodlines is not only the most successful installment in the series; it is the top grossing horror movie of the year. That being said, we have still have yet to hear anyone say it is their favorite horror franchise.Bad neighbors suck. Yes, there are some things that you learn to put up with it and being to not even care all that much about. But when you have those neighbors that seem to have a complete disregard for you, it can make coming home hell. And if you happen to be the one causing the problems, dealing with police, the people you upset, and retaliation can also be a pill.Restless is a British psychological thriller that sees a woman unravel due to one such neighbor. A mix of great sound design, surprising moments of humor, and great storytelling will catch audiences off guard. It is a basic and relatable story that makes for an enjoyable watch. The Surrender may not be as relatable, but it also boasts strong performances and writing. The tale is one as old as horror. A family conducts a ritual to bring a recently deceased love one back to life. Naturally, it is not as simple as it sounds. And even though the plot may be familiar, it is also not as simple as it sounds. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Getting rest isn't reckless, it's trying to push through that is. That constant drive to demonstrate productivity is virtue signaling of the toxic kind. Root cause: perfectionism. Tap into this episode to learn about the hidden traits of perfectionism that are making it so hard to calm down. You might think perfectionists are tightly wound OCD types. Not true. If you have any of these traits - competitive, controlling, indecisive, judgemental, overproducing, procrastination, underconfident - you suffer from perfectionism Perfectionists abandon their big dreams focusing instead on details and procedures. Task completion masquerades as accomplishment. Done is always better than perfect. Embrace forward momentum knowing you can course correct as you go. Challenge yourself to do less so that you can rest and recharge your creative energy. Get things done by leveraging these practices: delegate/hire support, say no to more things, make self care your highest priority. Have you ever met anyone that's had a near death experience? During this week's episode, Fr. Joseph told me (Matt) about the experience one of the Diocese's own pastors. He died, experienced purgatory and judgement, but was given a second chance by Our Lord. This week, we discussed the Four Last Things; Death, Judgement, Hell, (Purgatory) and Heaven. We discussed not only near death experiences, but what Scripture, Tradition and the Mystics tell us of these experiences and places. St. Faustina's description of Hell is… terrifying. Truly “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10). Simultaneously, as we seek to understand Heaven, it's… exciting! Perhaps, most importantly, we discuss the proper way to hope in Our Lord's mercy. Fr. Joseph, Lauren and special guest Fr. Chris Perrella sit down to discuss why The Lord of the Rings is an intrinsically Catholic work. From way the book encourages virtue, showcases the proper need for sacrifice, illustrates how good vs. evil really works to Lembas bread being a symbol of the Eucharist (physically and spiritually) and the characters representing Christ, the prophets, Mary, the saints (although not strictly in allegorical fashion, and not one for one). Daily Soap Opera Spoilers by Soap Dirt (GH, Y&R, B&B, and DOOL)
Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt The Young and the Restless sees Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Cole Howard (J Eddie Peck) face a daunting situation. Cole, who has recently returned from an international tour for the Newman Media publishing arm, is seriously ill, causing Victoria and their daughter, Claire Grace Newman (Hayley Erin), to fear the worst. The mystery illness appears to be more than a standard cold or flu, raising questions about Cole's survival and sparking speculation about a possible deathbed wedding. Y&R sees Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has shown a begrudging acceptance of Cole's relationship with Victoria, and it's yet to see how he would respond to the possible union. This situation could potentially bring the Newman family together in an unexpected show of unity and support, primarily if the illness leads to a heartbreaking conclusion for Cole. Young and Restless sees the narrative might serve a more significant purpose, potentially prompting Victor to reassess his ongoing conflict with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and his family. As Victoria and Claire brace themselves for the worst, the viewers are left wondering if the show will present another poignant deathbed wedding, similar to Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Hilary Curtis in the past. Do you know the Theological and Cardinal Virtues? Aristotle defined virtue as “excellence in being human”, and moreover, the Catholic Faith teaches that growing in virtue, and overcoming vice, is the path to growth in holiness! This week on Restless, Fr. Joseph, Lauren and special guest Fr. Chris Perrella, discuss this very topic. Beyond defining virtue, they reflect on some practical and achievable tips to help your growth in virtue. For example, if you need to grow in chastity (which falls under the virtue of temperance) you can take up fasting, not just from food but also from other goods. By embracing the virtue in “easier situations” you're strengthened for more difficult ones. And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. – Matthew 21:22 Persistent prayer is a mighty movement of the soul toward God, and it stirs the deepest forces of the soul toward the throne of heavenly grace. It is the ability to hold on, press on, and wait. Restless desire, restful patience, and strength of grasp are all embraced in it. Prayer is not an incident or a performance but a passion of soul. It is not a want or half-needed desire but a sheer necessity. He was admitted to the bar in 1854 at the age of nineteen, but left the profession five years later when he answered the call of God to the ministry. Beginning in 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, he became the chaplain of the Fifth Missouri Regiment of the Confederacy. Bounds married Miss Emmie Barnett of Eufaula, Alabama, in 1876. By this union, he became the father of two daughters, Celeste and Corneille, and a son, Edward, who died at the age of six. His wife Emmie died in 1886, and later Bounds married Miss Hattie Barnett, Emmie's cousin. Together they had six children: Samuel, Charles, Osborne, Elizabeth, Mary, and Emmie. However, Charles died at the age of one, so in the end, the family consisted of seven children. After serving several important churches in St. Louis and other places to the south, Bounds became editor of the St. Louis Christian Advocate for eight years and, later, associate editor of The Nashville Christian Advocate for four years. The trial of his faith came while he was in Nashville, and he quietly retired to his home without even asking for a pension. His principal work in Washington, Georgia (his home), was rising at four o'clock in the morning and praying until seven o'clock. He filled a few engagements as an evangelist during the eighteen years of his life work in Washington, Georgia.
