On this date in 1897, an 'air ship' was spotted in the skies across eastern North Dakota. The Larimore Pioneer in Grand Forks County reported eyewitness accounts of the event. Three men in particular—Chief Clerk W.A. Willian, Agent J. McNaught, and Janitor Chris Johnson—shared their observations. They said the object was first seen shortly before 11 PM, moving swiftly in a northwesterly direction, with a noticeable swaying motion.

This week's episode on the Artist Academy Podcast features UK artist Louise McNaught. Louise is an environmentally conscious wildlife artist whose passion shines through every canvas she paints. I reached out to Louise back in 2019 for her first interview on this podcast (see her first interview HERE), so this episode provides an updated look at how her art business has changed post-COVID. Louise still sells through art galleries but now primarily focuses on social media to make sales. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with a fellow animal (cat) lover and talking about the different ways to sell canvases, which is something I rarely manage to do. For me, selling a customizable wall mural is so much easier than selling a canvas painting that comes purely from my own creativity. It's also really tough for me to push myself to be creative in my own way, with no customer insight required. Louise lends her perspective on both of these challenges, drawing from her many years of experience. Let me know what you think of this week's updated episode with Louise McNaught!

In this episode, we explore the complex and often frustrating journey many people face when receiving a diagnosis of endometriosis. Despite advancements in medical testing and imaging, it still takes an average of 8-10 years for patients to be diagnosed.Dr. McNaught reviews the symptoms, signs, and challenges surrounding its diagnosis and the patient experience of those who do not have the typical signs and symptoms of endometriosis. He discusses his conversations with patients who have lived for years with unexplained infertility and why reviewing the patient's experience with pelvic pain as a teenager, as well as family history with endometriosis, can aid in the discovery. While treatments for endometriosis symptoms are well known, research on the disease is more limited. In the past several years, the toolbox for treatment options has expanded significantly beyond traditional options, with new, less invasive, and time-consuming diagnostic advancements on the horizon. Receiving a diagnosis is often a validating experience for patients who have felt ignored or dismissed for years. This information allows them to explain their symptoms to schools and workplaces, making it easier to manage the impact of this invisible disease. Dr. McNaught highlights the need for better research, less invasive diagnostics, and more comprehensive care for those with endometriosis. Join us as we explore the evolving landscape of diagnosis and treatment, highlighting the challenges and breakthroughs in managing this complex condition. As frustrating as this disease can be, Dr. McNaught says the future is bright for patients.More About our Guest SpeakerDr John McNaught is a leading reproductive endocrinologist based in London, Ontario. In an age of rapid tech advancement, PhD candidate Chantal McNaught is fascinated by the navigation of conflict between law as a profession and law as a business. Zooming out and taking a more holistic approach to the purpose of law is essential, she argues. In this episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, host Jerome Doraisamy speaks with New Zealand-based Chantal McNaught, who is a PhD candidate at Bond University and a practice advisory manager at LEAP, to discuss her upcoming dissertation, the philosophical questions in distinguishing between the profession of law and the business of law, navigating the uncertainty of new and emerging technologies, and the need for practitioners to properly reflect on the implications of their use of new tech. McNaught also delves into environmental and external factors contributing to broader uncertainty, the need to think more holistically about one's role as a lawyer in a changing professional services marketplace, the questions lawyers need to ask of themselves and their businesses, the importance of theory in informing the practical, and why such undertakings are so exciting for lawyers to sink their teeth into. Early winter morning. The sun hasn't even fully come up yet. You're awake and on your way to a frozen lake outside Toronto, coffee in hand and ready to chainsaw through metres of ice. You arrive to everyone doing breath work, trying to maintain any normal level of body warmth. Chainsaws stop, everyone dresses down, and hops into freezing temperature waters while playing chess, having conversations, listen to the sounds of moving ice. These minutes pass slower than microwave minutes, potentially even slower than stair master minutes dare I say. You hop out the water to smiles, hugs and warm coffee all round. Life changing experiences and the many benefits, both mental and physical, that come with cold submersion. Sounds like Nick McNaughts game! From fun winter mornings cold submerging, to inviting friends and going to viral on CNN globally - now an extremely successful business changing the lives of many many people.
