GIRL MONSTER!

In this adventurously precarious and thrilling episode 11 of Girl monster we zoom in with Afro/Vietnamese/Cambodian artist, DJ, producer & lecturer Chooc Ly Tan – aka DJ Chooc Ly. We discuss the connections between sci- fi aesthetics, conceptual club nights, cultural heritage, alternate galaxies, musical exploration and the process of de-colonialization. We also shared tips on how to get rid of zombies in these end times and we listened to their remix of Kepler 183f by musician Richard Colvaens and their hit mashup “Colonized x Heard Em Say”. This apocalyptic episode is hosted by Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir aka. Hyperia, who will be playing the tracks "Quan Yin" and "I want to lick the eyeballs of free market capitalism" which she will now release before its too late!

In this 10th edition of Girl Monster radio (corona special), guest host Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir makes a zoom call from Norway to Berlin, where she has a lengthy and in-depth conversation with Icelandic musician Salka Valsdóttir. Salka is a rapper, producer and sound engineer that began her career in an all female rap group named Reykjavíkurdætur (daughters of Reykjavík). The band was a big success in Iceland, but we look into some of the darker sides and challenges that come with being a female voice in an otherwise male saturated hip hop scene. We also discuss her work as a music producer and how her search for artistic autonomy and being in control of sound can open up possibilities, both creative and personal. This edition of Girl Monster celebrates the prolific artist NO BRA, an electronic musician, producer and performer - aka Susanne Oberbeck. Alex interviews Susanne live in the studio, discussing themes from her third album Love & Power. Love & Power is Oberbeck’s challenge to power hierarchies and binaries, imagining a future of relations and sex outside of traditional structures.Also featured are sonic works and pop songs by new artists and zeitgeist legends: Kiki Moorse, Kamura Atsuko and the debut album of KARMA SHE »MY NAKED DEVOTION« which will be released both digitally (on the label of Martin Hossbach) and as a cassette (self-released) on March 6th 2020.

Alex Murray-Leslie presents an ultra-sublime Girl Monster 8 with a dystopian flair, for her December show on Radio Primavera Sound, featuring a world-first listen to L.Twills’ new album of rough-edged experimental pop [Freedom/Fiction]. Listeners also get a world-first stream of Shanghai-born, Trondheim Academy of Fine Art-based artist Qianhui Qian and her sound piece "In Abyss We Live”, which leads the listener to an uncomfortable meditation experience and traumatic thoughts. It’s the opposite of relaxing and spiritual practice, via following a digital guide navigating into our deepest fears. This 5th edition of Girl Monster features music and an exclusive interview with members of Trondheim voices (established 2001 in Trondheim Norway) a Norwegian cutting edge vocal ensemble, best known for their improvised performances in the jazz genre and sound art. Girl Monster, episode 4 features the new remix of Fantasy by Chicks on Speed & Anthem, THE NET by Voocha, other unreleased songs premiering include 'Mr Bone' by Mallard Drake (aka Anat Ben-David). Her album is out in June. Then we take a trip to Trondheim, Norway to interview the emerging feminist electronic music technologist and artist Ada Hoel and listen to the new unreleased song by Trondheim based, Icelandic musician and artist Prince Heka (aka Unnur Andrea Einarsdottir).
