In this episode we take one more look at what happened with the "relationship guru" Derrick Jackson. The situation spiraled out of control in the last week or so and it got so crazy, we almost didn't touch the topic at all.Still, there is a lot to be learned here with regard to mental health, and how we should strive to develop ourselves as individuals. If we become better for ourselves, maybe we can be better to those around us.  On the other hand, maybe I'm just imagining things there, but at the very least, this man should've hired a publicist!Enough with the gurus--we talk through a few lessons learned to stay out of these insane pitfalls. Play Episode Listen Later Mar 23, 2021 63:50

What is the answer to this relationship conundrum? Everywhere we look there are extremes. Men are trash. Women are too masculine. People are still confused about this high value thing. There's a lot to keep up with and it's hard to see when it is going to end...are we ever going to get back to having meaningful, fulfilling relationships with one another? In this episode, we take this on. First we talk about what high value is and what it isn't. From there we get into the recent drama from the relationship guru Derrick Jaxn who sits on the complete other end of the spectrum from what we would see from a Kevin Samuels. Has Kevin been right all along--did Derrick literally just prove his points? Derrick literally has a book of "affirmations for women who refuse to give up on love" and just got caught up in a significant mess with his significant other. People make mistakes, and that's NOT what this is about, but we talk about the situation here because of the literal volumes of content he has produced being really critical of other men. Are the standards that he promoted even realistic when we consider the choices he made?Buckle up for another philosophical discussion with relationships as a backdrop. On this episode of the podcast, we react to a crazy debate that #kevinsamuels had versus not 1, not 2, but 3 women and it wasn't pretty! It went about as well as you can expect, but there was still a lot for us to learn as there are many unanswered questions. Is it possible for the dating/relationship market to change, or are people going to stick to these extremes for the foreseeable future? Then we dive into a couple of stories about collaborations gone wrong and how that is shaping the future of this podcast. Right after, we take a few minutes to talk about some of the worlds most iconic brands in Nike and Rolex. Have recent events with these powerhouses shown us what they really think about us as consumers? Maybe!Lastly, we get into a little leadership philosophy. You don't have to be a "boss" to benefit from this type of stuff. We lead in many capacities throughout our lives and we may have the potential to expand in the future. EP #17 - Men vs. Women: From Kevin Samuels High Value Disciples to Scary Farmers

What started out as a multi-topic episode turned into a rant about the divide between men and women in society focused on the dating/relationship space. This was going to be something that I just touched on, but then I found a video that seemed pretty heavily inspired by Kevin Samuels' content that I thought I'd react to. I wanted to show the converse of this on the women's side when to my surprise, I found tons of content on the other side of the spectrum. It was hard to nail down just one thing. Was I going to focus on women who hate men or think they are trash? What about women who believe a man is only worth how much he can afford to spend? No--these things are too easy. What about a woman who is just flat out afraid of men? Of course, not her husband, father, or brothers or anything--just the guy at the farmer's market helping her with her goods...Oh and in this episode, I mention that the woman I'm reacting to has over 3M subscribers. That was just her vlog page--her main channel has over 8.5M. Yeah, I'd say that's a good little bit of influence! We are exploring the extremes again, and I'm trying to make sense of it. This stuff is driving me crazy. Join in on the conversation on YouTube or hit me up on IG!IG: https://www.instagram.com/hiru_artoflife/#kevinsamuels #theroommates #highvalue

Fam, we are talking about "The Godfather," Kevin Samuels, in this episode. Back in episode 6, we broke down the fundamentals of high value men and women. Now that we've had some time with Kevin's content, we talk about how realistic the high value way is for the average person and what we can learn from it. Is there some good to be had from it, or is it a bunch of nonsense? If there is such a small percentage of high value men, why are people acting like women are the only ones who aren't stepping up in relationships? These are just a couple of the questions that we tackle in this episode and we react to a recent clip to illustrate that Kevin brings more to the table than "high value."This episode is rounded out by taking some aspects of traditional values and putting them into a modern framework to help us think about how we might be able to improve our relationships regardless of the type. Whether you're "high value" and proud or unapologetically modern, there's something here you can use--enjoy!IG: https://www.instagram.com/hiru_artoflife/FB: https://www.facebook.com/hiruartoflife

Fam, we're back at it with a new bag of tricks! First up, we dive into the hot topic of censorship. Are these social media platforms really infringing on your freedom of speech? And what's all this talk about cleaning up Instagram? It looks like some people using these platforms for their livelihood may need to adapt or reconsider their game plan. Next up we clarify the conversation regarding sexuality in society. It's not a deep dive, but rather, they are some general thoughts to keep your minds churning while I continue to work through the angles.Third, we have commentary and reaction on some of Kevin Samuels' latest callers. This stuff seems unreal, but there appears to be no shortage of these people calling in. Do they really want HVM? Do they want the "love" they say they do? Are they "10s"? Is this real life? I'm not sure--but we get into it and you might be surprised at what you hear!Lastly, my brain was a bit numb from listening to Kevin Samuels' callers. In this segment, I offer you something more. In this episode we talk about some of the turmoil that is going on around us and ways we can treat each other better. Can we honestly say that the things that have been going on in our country have anything to do with politics at all? If this is politics, we need to find a better way to do business! For our second topic, we talk about the concept of luck. Are we able to position ourselves in such a way that we can have more opportunities or be prepared to take advantage of opportunities as they become available? We talk about ways to fine tune our goal setting so that we can meet luck halfway! The last topic is an off the cuff discussion on women who are in essence finding empowerment in their sexuality and the word "hoe" or "heaux." Some people in our society are adamant about changing the meaning of the words or changing the perception of the behaviors associated with them to have a more positive connotation. I'm not here to judge, but is society ready for that? Will this be a movement that lasts? I think I pose more questions that answers here, but I wanted to give you all an idea of what I've been thinking about when I see other creators talk about these issues. But more importantly, what do you think about these topics? In this episode we dive into some of the social issues that came to the forefront of society in a rather turbulent 2020. Did we make any progress towards dealing with them or are we worse off than before? We discuss race and gender/identity issues some of which have been highlighted recently in social media. Race has been brought up by popular YouTubers #kevinsamuels and #parismilan amongst others, but are these generalizations good for the communities that they speak about? Is it just entertainment and should listeners be more discerning? We ask similar questions here when it comes to issues with identity with the ultimate goal of trying to find productive ways to have these highly charged, emotional conversations and make progress in society. As always, I don't claim to have all the answers, but I'm willing to listen to different perspectives. Catch up with me on IG, YouTube, or Facebook and let me know your thoughts!IG: hiru_artoflife

In this episode of the podcast, we're delving into the Kevin Samuels controversy yet again and discussing what happened with the woman who he told was "average at best" and would "die alone" if she kept pursuing a high value man. Was he wrong for doing it or was she even really looking for a high value man to begin with? Let's break it down! Then we jump into how single mothers have often been characterized in society as we discuss some of the comments on single mothers from a past episode. Also, I've been critical of the fellas lately, but is there some truth to how some of these "manosphere" guys talk about women? I'll let you be the judge as we have story time and play a game of "Guess the Number of Followers"!We round it out talking about a couple of meltdowns from Tom Cruise on the set of MI:7 to a woman yelling at her boyfriend for buying her fake Chanel. What's good, fam? We got a lot of positive responses for episode 6 and some responses that were a little interesting to say the least. So, I decided to get after it again. For starters, we open up this episode discussing a commenter recommended video that was intended to show whether or not Kevin is as critical of men just like he is with women. I get to talk a little fashion in the middle, and then I address a comment string that appears to have been left by one of Kevin's super fans! After watching just one portion of a podcast, I was called out as being feminine and catty when I responded to this gentleman's comments and of course, I enjoyed every second of it! But what was the fuss about? Was there any merit to what he was saying? Maybe--we take a look at the ordeal and how I think it's just an example of the kind of craziness that's going on in 2020 and how it's hard to truly make progress. Kevin has amassed a lot of fans as well as haters over the ideas that he is promoting, and here we try to take a balanced approach to what he presents. Her name is Madison Diane and you can check out her content on IG as well as YouTube amongst other places. I appreciated her approach to content creation in general and this led us to asking questions about the impact of social media on society. This is a broad topic and we go a lot of different places in the conversation, but at it's core, I think we tried to think about the responsible use of social media and maintaining authenticity as artists.
