Hail Yes! A Detroit Free Press Podcast About University of Michigan Sports
Oh how quickly things can change. Just a week ago, Tony and Andrew were discussing a Michigan team that looked flat and overmatched on the road against USC. One game later, and the discussion is entirely different. Michigan played one of its most complete games under Sherrone Moore against Washington in Week 8, beating the Huskies 24-7 at the Big House. The guys open the show by discussing Michigan's impressive showing over Washington and how the Wolverines are playing entering the rivalry game vs. MSU. Plus, what years can you compare this year's matchup to? And do the Wolverines have anything to worry about with MSU? Then in the second half of the show, the guys make predictions for the big game and discuss why the narrative around this year's rivalry game is so weird, before making picks for some huge games around the country this week. Last but not least, Tony shares a boots-on-the-ground report from Michigan's exhibition loss to Cincinnati and talks about what went wrong. In this episode, Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz break down the Michigan football team's 24-7 win over Washington, what stood out on both sides of the ball, and what it all means for the Wolverines moving forward. They open with a look at Michigan's offense, which cruised to 417 yards on 6.1 yards per play, and arguably was more productive than 24 points would suggest. They discuss strong performances from Bryce Underwood, Jordan Marshall, Zack Marshall, Andrew Marsh and the offensive line. They break down what worked in play-calling, areas to improve in opponent territory and other observations from Underwood's efficient game. In the second half of the episode, they look at the defense's emphatic bounce-back performance after last week's struggles at USC. They discuss Michigan's tangible improvements in the pass-rush, in tackling and a dominant day stopping the run. They look at standout individual players, and what else went into holding Washington to seven points and just 62 second-half yards. They close the episode with a zoomed-out look at where Michigan stands with five games remaining in its regular season. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds in Ann Arbor and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund in Seattle - caught up postgame after Washington's 24-7 loss to Michigan, a game where anything that could have gone wrong for the Huskies did. And then when it seemed to go right, the nature of the brutal battle turned those tiny wins into Pyrrhic victories due to injuries. Three offensive players - starting left tackle Maximus McCree, starting tight end Quentin Moore, and backup tight end Kade Eldridge - all went down with first half injuries and Washington Head Coach Jedd Fisch said postgame that the prognosis for all three in terms of coming back to play soon wasn't good. In fact, McCree is now out for the year with a foot injury. The guys talked about how the injuries impacted a game that already had major injury concerns for both teams, how Michigan was able to pull the card UW used last year against the Wolverines by using second-half turnovers to go ahead and stay ahead on the scoreboard, the massive discrepancy in time of possession - especially in the fourth quarter - and more. They talked about the battle between Demond Williams and Bryce Underwood, how the battle in the trenches ultimately impacted the game for both young quarterbacks, and also Fisch taking responsibility for not getting his team prepared to finish the game the way they needed to. Washington has figured out a way to beat the teams they should. But what about the teams they could beat? That also is something the guys talked about in their final thoughts as the Huskies head back to Seattle licking their wounds and searching for answers as another tough opponent - Illinois - is set to travel to the Emerald City off a bye week. Oh, and Kim has a couple passes for Sunday's hoops exhibition game versus UNLV, so if you're interested send him an email: kimg@dawgman.com To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") intern India Otto are back in studio previewing a game that has been circled on USC's schedule, a road trip to rival Notre Dame. The No. 20 Trojans come in at 5-1 fresh off a 31-13 win over Michigan while the No. 13 Irish have won four-straight after starting 0-2 and are playing suffocating defense as of late. Both programs are looking for a huge win that would propel them into the College Football Playoff discussion as well as retain or take back the Jeweled Shillelagh (maybe forever?). The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key matchups in this game, with an elite USC offense taking on a stingy ND defense and run-focused Irish offense taking on a Trojan defense that bounced back against the run-focused Wolverines last week. They also discuss some of the key injuries for the game, with USC's top two running backs out and Notre Dame's starting center and defensive tackle out. In this double-length episode, Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz break down the Michigan football team midway through its 2025 season, and preview the Wolverines' home tilt against Washington. In the second half of the episode, they take stock in Michigan's defense. They discuss surprise letdowns so far, why the defense struggled so much against USC, and what the blueprint against the Huskies' offense needs to look like. Lifted by another strong second half against Rutgers, the Washington Huskies will carry a 5-1 record into Ann Arbor to take on the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. Ex-Interns Jack and Luke rehash Washington's win over the Scarlet Knights before turning their attention to this upcoming weekend. Topics of discussion include Washington's recent slow starts and the challenge of playing a 9 AM Pacific Time game. Luke also looks to continue his dominant Betting B1G season, where he currently boasts a 12-6 picking record and a six-game lead over Jack. The duo also picks a couple of players on each side of the ball that they anticipate performing well against Sherrone Moore's Wolverines on Saturday. Hail Yes! A Detroit Free Press Podcast About University of Michigan Sports
Michigan football's game against USC was the "pendulum swing" game of the year, but unfortunately for U-M fans, the season swung in the wrong way. Michigan was clobbered by USC in the second half, losing the game 31-13 and putting the Wolverines back into must-win mode. If Michigan wants to get back into the College Football Playoff conversation, it'll probably have to be perfect from here. That starts this week with a big matchup against a Washington team that'll provide a lot of matchup problems for the Wolverines. Tony and Andrew open the show by discussing what went wrong for Michigan on the road at USC and what Sherrone Moore's team must fix before Washington. Then after the break, the guys make predictions for the Washington game and share their picks for a fun slate of college football games this weekend. Read all about the Michigan Wolverines by heading to our website at freep.com/sports.
This past weekend may have been the absolute worst sports weekend in the history of Michigan and Detroit sports fandom. The Tigers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Mariners in a 15 inning classic, the Wolverines and Spartans both dropped games that have fans questioning their coaches, and the Lions lost to the Chiefs on SNF but not without a ton of drama. We talk about all that and plenty more on Episode 381, take a listen and hit us up @3pointpod! In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back to discuss the massive win over Michigan on Saturday night in the Coliseum and how the Trojans are looking to keep the momentum going in South Bend against Notre Dame. After being labeled as "soft" following the loss at Illinois, head coach Lincoln Riley used the bye week well, circling the wagons and getting his guys ready for a tough test against the Wolverines. By the end of the evening USC was unquestionable the tougher team, winning the battles at the line of scrimmage and resetting the expectations for the remainder of the season. The guys discuss what they liked from the Trojans victory over Michigan and how they were able to bounce back after that disappointing loss in Champaign. They also give an update on the dire injury situation with the top two running backs Waymond Jordan and Eli Sanders out and an offensive line that has been using a different lineup every week. There were also some national recognition for safety Bishop Fitzgerald following his two interception performance and walk-on running back King Miller who carried the load with 158 yards and a touchdown against Michigan. Miller has been special and he will likely get the first start of his career at Notre Dame. Ryan and Connor were both impressed with what USC was able to do Saturday night in the Coliseum against Michigan and both are looking for a similar effort in South Bend against the Fighting Irish. It is one thing to put it together at home, but it would mean a lot more if the Trojans could play well on the road against a ranked opponent. We've said this a few times this season, but it's true for Saturday. It's a pivotal game for Michigan Football and their season. Win...and things look better. Lose..and things could get ugly. Joining us with her thoughts on a very good Washington team is Huskies Radio Network sideline reporter Elise Woodward.
Welcome to the debut episode of our latest series, the Comic Book Keepers Book Club! At least once a month we will be bringing you an in-depth discussion breaking down comic runs, one-shots or graphic novels ranging from the iconic and beloved to the weird and wacky. Lance and Jeremy (The Geekly Grind) will be spearheading this new endeavor, while Chris will continue to bring the character deep dives. But fear not, Chris and Lance will still be recording together routinely. This premier episode of the CBK Book Club is all about the BRILLIANT time and reality warped anthology series, Assorted Crisis Events, by Deniz Camp, Eric Zawadzki, Jordie Bellaire, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Tom Muller and Wesley Griffith from Image Comics! Apologies for the error in this episode, we believed Assorted Crisis Events was a limited series, but to our utter joy, it is ongoing! We ADORED this series, I strongly recommend picking up the first trade paperback, available in stores NOW. We will always share the next CBK Book Club comic in the previous episode, so be sure to listen so that you can read and join in on the discussion. The Wolverines were exposed in a prime-time beatdown, raising existential questions about Sherrone Moore's leadership. Steve breaks down three glaring problems. As Washington comes to Ann Arbor, Steve calls this the most critical game of Moore's tenure. Joined by Mark Rogers of The Voice of College Football, they debate the stakes, Michigan's identity, and the “quit factor” looming against Michigan State.

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and Chris Trevino are back in studio taking about how this USC football team finally put a complete 60 minute effort together, taking down the No. 15 Wolverines 31-13 Saturday night in the Coliseum. It was an extremely important game for head coach Lincoln Riley, and following that disappointing loss to Illinois he used the bye week to get his Trojans ready for what was going to be a toughest test against Big Ten powerhouse Wolverines. The Men of Troy defensively passed that test with flying colors, holding Michigan to just 109 rushing yards and 316 total yards. The offense was exceptional as well, putting up 489 yards with walk-on tailback King Miller rushing for 158 yards (8.8 per carry) and a touchdown. The crew talks about how clean of a game USC played, even with a pair of offensive turnovers. The Trojans only had three penalties on the night, none on the defense, and allowed Michigan to convert just 2 of 9 on third down. This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show.
