His passion for the program refills excitement in fans for the future of Gamecock football. South Carolina once again has multiple blue chip prospects from the states of Maryland and Virginia, along with the District of Columbia, in its crosshairs for the Class of 2026. So far under head coach Shane Beamer, the region has been a blessing in recruiting as Carolina has not only landed quantity but quality (at least out of high school as far as rankings go) from Beamer's old recruiting stomping grounds. JC Shurburtt talks about how this can continue as Beamer and his staff continue to build a championship-level roster in Columbia. South Carolina obviously lost a lot of football talent off of its 2024 roster- really good to elite talent as the defense featured three second round NFL Draft picks and had a total of five drafted. The Gamecocks lost Rocket Sanders and Josh Simon and three interior offensive line starters on that side of the ball, too. But there is precedent for South Carolina losing elite players and keeping on. Stephon Gilmore, Alshon Jeffery and Melvin Ingram, among others, headed off to the NFL following the 2011 season and who replaced them on the 2012 team, along with the depth on that team which was considered by some to be the best of the Steve Spurrier era, may surprise you. South Carolina has to replace (unofficially) 1,714 snaps at linebacker in 2025. On this episode of Coffee, JC Shurburtt points out that while you cannot replace some of the things Demetrius Knight Jr. did for the Gamecocks last season, the 2025 linebacking corps could end up being better because it's overall a more talented, athletic, fast and long group... they are just young.
