House Bill 1105 aims to enforce existing laws, especially regarding sanctuary cities. It requires local law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, with penalties for non-compliance. The urgency increased after the recent murder. The bill strengthens language to ensure compliance and imposes penalties for non-cooperation. It cleared the House committee and is expected to reach the House floor on Crossover Day, the deadline for legislation to advance. STORY 2: Marietta Man Accused of Having Child Sexual Abuse Material Brian Donehoo, a Marietta resident, faces charges of possessing child sexual abuse material involving two juvenile girls at his residence in February 2021. Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant on Feb. 8, during which Donehoo admitted to having an image on his phone from a live stream video, with evidence of payment for access to the stream. Donehoo was arrested and charged with child sexual exploitation, subsequently released on a $20,000 bond. STORY 3: 'The Nuts and Bolts of the School District': Cobb Schools Honors Volunteers of the Year The Cobb County School District celebrated its annual Volunteer of the Year luncheon, honoring over 100 volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting teachers, staff, and students. The luncheon, held at Jim Miller Park in Marietta, featured speeches from district officials, including Superintendent Chris Ragsdale and Felicia Wagner, the executive director of the Cobb Schools Foundation. Volunteers from each school were recognized for their contributions, which range from holding concessions at sporting events to reading to students and supporting office staff. Marietta Council Members Bicker Over 'Goldstein Gap' Former Councilman Philip Goldstein accused Councilman Johnny Walker and the Marietta City Council of unfair treatment over his fenced-off lot on the north end of Marietta Square, a dispute referred to as the "Goldstein Gap." Goldstein, a prominent property owner in downtown Marietta, argued that he was being singled out by Walker to improve the appearance of the fence surrounding his empty lot. Councilwoman Cheryl Richardson intervened, suggesting that the focus on Goldstein's property was unfair compared to other neglected properties in the city. Despite tensions, the exchange concluded with Andy Morris, chair of the Judicial/Legislative Committee, thanking Goldstein with a hint of humor. STORY 5: Downed AT&T Towers Causing Service Issues in Marietta Two AT&T towers on Atlanta Road in Marietta have been down since Wednesday, causing service issues in the area. A tech support representative, Eric, stated that the towers are expected to be repaired by Tuesday. He advised affected customers to restart their phones to connect to nearby working towers and suggested using Wi-Fi as an alternative. Stephen Garcia played quarterback for the University of South Carolina from 2007 to 2011. During his time at the university, he was followed by controversy. Suspended multiple times, while also winning some of the biggest games in their history. We talk about life, the good, bad and what is on his horizon.
