What does music mean to you? Can you live without it? A few years ago, I wrote an article on how music impacts me and what I do. I listen to music every day. It's in my blood and I wouldn't have it any other way. Today we are taking things to the next level with two amazing guests, Lucila Zanfonato and Fernanda Loch, both students of mine and also amazing singers. If you know me, you know I've always been connected to art, and music has been a form of therapy and solace my whole life. Mother's Day is here and this is such a strange time in history, when some people just don't have the chance or privilege to be with their moms. I've lost my mom recently, as I've shared with you guys before, but today I would like to take the time to pay some tribute to all the moms and those who are not mothers themselves, but somehow manage to parent a kid, taking care of them and teaching them good values. My relationship with my mom was not always a bed of roses. We did have some difficult arguments and discussions as well. One of the things that kept us apart sometimes was religion. Forgiving her for not allowing me to choose my own beliefs has taken a huge burden out of my chest. We are all sharing information online on a daily basis, and while some people are fully aware of their own moves on the Internet, others often feel lost and easily get trapped by fake websites, clickbaits, and even suffer blackmailing, harassment and bullying. That's why cybersecurity is so important, to track these issues and help people feel safe online. However, it is not that easy, since there are many factors to consider. So I invited my friend Seth Baird, who has served in the US military and now dedicates his studies to help people protect their integrity online, to talk about cyberbullying, social media and the future of technology. Let's face it: Covid-19 has been an opportunity for us to go deep inside ourselves and reflect about our actions, lifestyles, relationships, values and the way we look at things. I've personally dealt with challenges that kept me in a place where I had to make difficult decisions, and this has pushed me out of my comfort zone again and again. Dealing with uncertainty is not familiar to us, because we want to stay in control of everything, but this is not the case. Since I was very young, I had this idea that I was different. Because I noticed things in a different way and I had some kind of perception of the world around me that wasn't really quite the same as other people. So I knew something was "wrong". Then I started reading some articles and magazines about it and I really started to understand how introversion works, and that I wasn't "weird" or "strange". I was just... different. And our culture is very extroverted, that's why we need to address this issue and let people know once and for all that introversion doesn't mean arrogance or selfishness. We all know how isolating being a teenager can be, especially now with the Covid-19 situation. Being there for them and letting them know that we care may be such a turning point in their lives. When I was a teenager, I used to deal with many issues myself and I thought I didn't have anyone to open up to, which was confusing and concerning. Not until I found someone who I really trusted and told them about what I was going through did I find some solace and relief. Teens want to be heard and seen. How can we provide a space for them to be themselves? Hearing 'NO' isn't always an easy task. Neither is saying 'NO'. Most of our relationships are based on how much we can handle rejection and crave for acceptance and belonging. We tend to expect so much from people, that sometimes we find ourselves stuck in the middle of both, for the sake of not being left out. Our self-esteem also plays a very important role in this matter. It's time to look at NO's from a new angle, and figure why people find it hard to be honest with themselves and say 'NO' more often. What does it mean to go back to square one? In English, this expression means to start all over again, from scratch. We must be patient, progress doesn't happen overnight, important changes may take a while to break us down and make us whole again. Have you ever had to go back to square one when things were simply not working for you? Me too. Was I scared in the beginning because of people's criticism and disbelief? Definitely.
