When a 9-year-old girl vanishes without a trace in 1984, a rural Canadian town is left reeling. Law enforcement quickly zeroes in on a suspect—a quiet, socially awkward neighbor. But as the case unfolds, doubts about his guilt emerge again and again. Decades later, Detective Sergeant Steve takes on the cold case. With the power of modern DNA technology, everything once thought to be fact is suddenly back in play. Will the truth finally come to light? Detective Sergeant Steve is a seasoned investigator with 28 years of service in the Toronto Police Service, where he currently leads the Homicide Cold Case Unit—home to the largest caseload of unsolved cases in Canada. In addition to overseeing the Cold Case Unit, Steve also manages the Forensic Video Unit and played a key role in the establishment of the Missing Persons Unit, guiding its development from the ground up. Throughout his distinguished career, Steve has held various positions in specialized units, including the Drug Squad, Major Crime Unit, Major Projects, ROPE (Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement) Squad, and the Hold Up Squad. Notably, while in the Hold Up Squad, he was instrumental in solving the high-profile multi-national bank robbery series known as the "Vaulter Bandit." A graduate of Brock University, Steve holds a major in Political Science and a minor in Business Entrepreneurship. His early career interests in law enforcement were sparked by his work with the Canada Border Services Agency during his time at university. This season on Business is Boring we're talking to people who are examples of better ways to do business. This week we meet Jovan Pavlicevic, co-founder of SquareOne, a financial empowerment and spending card for kids, and now, Emerge, the challenger for small business banking. In many ways Emerge is the classic disruptor, coming in and taking share from the big bank incumbents by being faster, nicer, smarter and more customer-centric than the big players. We learn what it takes to be a positive disruptor, as one thing about Emerge is that they've got where they are by being better to deal with, not by disrupting in destructive ways. We've loved seeing Emerge so far, and keep an eye out for where they go next as they continue to advocate for more modern banking regulations and services in Aotearoa. It's been a frustrating six or so weeks. Weather and arthritis in my hip and lower back are creating havoc for my return to running. In the last week, I managed to hike 2 miles until my hip yelled at me to stop. Later last week, I returned to the ol' walk-run format. It's a start, but not what I envision. Hoping to get back at it gradually until I can knock out a half or 25K without it killing me.Also, some tales about why you should not let your medications lapse after your primary care physician moves to another state. The former practice will not re-prescribe and without an appointment two months from now.Not great if you need it NOW.The story ends well, but the lesson is learned.

This 2025 podcast recording with Lori Halbach (Square One) was a thoughtful journey into how she helps people with their decluttering, downsizing, strategic sorting and so much more. I took this from her short bio on the Denver Metro Association of REALTORS (DMAR) which is probably only a portion of what she does. Her ability to be shoulder to shoulder with clients in challenging times is what I believe is one of best attributes. Milan non riesce a proseguire lo slancio della Supercoppa, fermandosi sul punteggio di 1-1 contro il Cagliari.
Indiana came into Saturday night's game versus Iowa with a ton of momentum --- winners of five straight games, owners of a 4-1 record in the conference, and taking on an Iowa team that had a very casual relationship with good defense. Poised to potentially pick up a big Quad 1 win in Iowa City, the Hoosiers instead reverted back to a depressingly familiar form, getting blown out by 25 and looking incredibly passive while doing so. We talk about the disappointment of yet another underwhelming road performance, and discuss the difficult road ahead for the Hoosiers as they try to stay afloat in a competitive Big Ten for an NCAA tournament berth.
Our guest this week is an Industry Veteran that made a huge impact in Surf, Skate, and Streetwear culture with Obey, Loser Machine, and Dark Seas. Kicking off his career in the early 90's with his first two brands “Flash” and “Square One”, he always had the dream to create a Multi In-House Brand Entity! It just so happens to have Shepard Fairey artwork showed up at his buddy's screen printing company and he quickly set up a meeting with Shepard, negotiated a deal, and Obey Clothing was born. He was later approached around 2011 by Loser Machine and Dark Seas which they also brought in-house and helped build those Brands to what they are today! Are the Steelers back to square one at QB? It looks like Justin Fields will be benched for Russell Wilson. Are they any further along with the game's most important position than they were before the season? Are either of these guys the future? Fans gave their theories on how the Steelers are handling things at QB. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. With both Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the precipice of huge career marks, TK thinks the two could actually cut the puck in half if the reach their milestones on the same goal. The guys asked TK which guy out of those two would help him win in various athletic endeavors. How does Tyler feel about the Penguins start so far? Tyler also had the guys in disbelief when he mentioned Phil Kessel being able to dunk a basketball.

Send us a textThe press release headline grabbed my attention: “SELCO Community Credit Union Awards $200,000 Grant to SquareOne Villages for the Development of the Rosa Village Co-Op in Eugene.”SELCO has been on the show before, with Olivia Sorensen,Senior Community Development Specialist for SELCO, talking about SELCO Steps Up, where the credit union thoughtfully seeks to do good in its communities while addressing societal challenges. In this latest case, SELCO - a $2.7 billion credit union based in Oregon - reached out to SquareOne Villages, which builds affordable housing and got involved with its Rosa Village project which will include 52 units. The units will house the presently unhoused as well as those who struggle to pay market rate rents.Ingenious on the part of SELCO is that its $200,000 grant was funded to the tune of $150,000 by a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines which had a 3X match program. On the show are Sorensen who explains why SELCO is behind this as well as Amanda Dellinger, SquareOne's Community Relations Director.Mentioned on the show is a recent US Supreme Court decision involving the homeless and housing. What a wonderful fun and funny interview with a fellow who's toiled at the highest peak of Hollywood as a screenwriter. TV and film writer, Steven Kunes, has worked on numerous sitcoms and movies. At the age of 26, legendary TV producer, Norman Lear, hired Steven to write and develop half-hour comedies for his company, Embassy Television. This led to assignments in one-hour TV shows and eventually led him to motion pictures, where Steven became one of Hollywood's most successful script doctors. He's worked on TV shows like South Park, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Out of This World, Cheers, and on movies such as Catch Me If You Can, Legally Blonde, Cast Away, The Pelican Brief, Groundhog Day and more. In 2015, he created the hit comedy series Over My Dead Body, which streams on Amazon Prime. About Over My Dead Body Norman Lear said, "This is the best idea for a TV series that I can remember. It's absolutely hilarious." In 2021, Steven delivered a TEDx talk in Philadelphia entitled "Square One at 60.”

As a student of Chögyam Trungpa, I heard the phrase “back to square one” quite a lot • he implied that doing something over and over again is very important — in our dharma practice, in our meditation, and in our studies • throughout his teachings, Trungpa Rinpoche put a great deal of emphasis on building a strong foundation, and on going back to the very earliest teachings of the Buddha, in particular to the teachings of the Four Noble Truths: the reality of suffering, the causes of suffering, the possibility of the cessation of suffering, and various pathways to do so • in a more immediate sense, going back to square one can mean going back to your very first personal inspiration to embark on the path of dharma • why are you doing this? what is the point? what inspired you from the very beginning? • going back to square one means to always touch back on the foundation • no matter how “advanced” you may feel, you always have to check back and ask: are you actually working on yourself, are you actually dealing with your own neuroses, your own habits, your own obstacles? • and as you extend your practice to working with others to cultivate wisdom and compassion and skillful means, how are you working with that? • so you go back to the beginning; you start from square one, over and over and over • this practice of going back to square one keeps things fresh and honest; it keeps us in tune with the fundamental questions that we need to look into.

After a bipartisan border bill was blocked on the Senate floor this week, lawmakers on Capitol Hill may be working through the weekend to pass a foreign aid package without border security. With questions as to whether this bill was doomed from the start, Congress is back to the same drawing board they faced in the fall of 2023. FOX News Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram and Congressional Correspondent Aishah Hasnie discuss House Majority Leader Mike Johnson's political bind and ponder how he will handle putting a new bill on the House floor. The latest report from the Congressional Budget Office shows that the Social Security Old Age and Survivor's Trust Fund will run out of money by 2033. Last year, President Biden continuously alleged that Republicans wanted to cut entitlements. However, former President Donald Trump says that cutting Social Security is unnecessary because natural resources like oil and gas will cover the cost. President of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, Maya MacGuineas weighs in on the future of Social Security and why candidates are not telling the truth about what lies ahead for the program. This week's episode covers more ground more quickly than a Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes passing attack. Which the Philadephia Eagles won't get to experience because they flopped in the first round of the playoffs last weekend, falsifying one of John Yoo's predictions for 2024 that the Eagles would make the Super Bowl. We're hoping his brief to the Supreme Court in the case of Trump's place on the Colorado ballot is more on the mark. We mostly skip over the fine points of John's brief and take in a wider look at the entire pool of briefs filed in this case, wondering, for example, why the world needs an Amicus brief from the Ryan Binkley for President campaign. This prompts us into wider still observations about other current issues involving the administrative state, which somehow managed to bring up the Statute usually banned from mention on this podcast, John Locke, and the weaknesses of modern property rights theory.Which ultimately brings us to the question heldover from the last two weeks: Nikki Haley and the Civil War. It is now apparent that Haley's momentum in the nomination contest halted abruptly with her flub of the Civil War question, and alas some of our friends are still not getting the question right, such as our good friend Dan Oliver. We go over the matter from Square One, and try—not for the first time—to school John on the issue of prudence. Oh, and we also make our prediction for the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries coming up.
Sometimes we're hit with a change so big it knocks us for a loop. We look around in a daze thinking, “NOW what?”
Welcome back to Tales of Taboo! I've been so inspired by the past 3 years of being a safe space for your unconventional and so-called 'unacceptable' confessions, that I feel compelled to spend Season 5 speaking solo and on-the-record about my own. To kick it off, we're talking about failing. Or rather, "failing." Going into 2023, I felt like I had it all: a great partner, a six-figure hosting career, and the best body of creative work I'd ever produced. Then, everything disappeared. At the time of recording this episode, I was unemployed, broke, and single at 30 - plus, I accidentally deleted all of my past confessions episodes from my records. For the past 6 months, I've quietly been back at Square One in so many ways. I get real about my physical sickness-level burnout, why Season 4 was cut short (and why I kinda resented it), and how my professional responsibilities bled into my personal life and made me disregard my own feelings. But losing my job & sense of joy led me to re-evaluate & re-build my boundaries, and now, I'm optimistic about the future. Other people might consider me a big fat f***ing failure, but I actually feel like I'm ahead in many ways - because I love myself (and all of my flaws and shortcomings) more than I ever have. ~ Share your own confession - or love letters and hate mail - at confessions@aliweissworld.com. Do you know what happens to a caterpillar inside its cocoon? It disintegrates into a gooey mass before its cells reform into a butterfly. This "bug soup" phase isn't pretty, but it's an essential part of change—what Martha refers to as Square One in her Change Cycle methodology. In this special re-release episode of BEWILDERED, Martha and Ro talk all about Square One and what happens when your previous identity must dissolve. If you've been struggling with change and letting go, this episode is for you!
