In this episode, Dr. Brent Robbins and I dive deeper into his work researching joy, or finding "the good life". We go into the 4 kinds of joy and the existential tradition behind the modern understanding of what joy is. We get deep and nerdy about joy, but in the end try to find out where true joy comes from. We also see the four kinds of seeking joy in the great movie Groundhog Day. Dr Brent Robbins was an Atheist when he studied psychology in graduate school. In evaluating patients, instead of hearing them talk about mental issues, many of them used language like they were lacking joy and meaning in their life, using transcendent language. This confused him at the time, but now makes more sense to him as a Catholic. Dr Robbins shares with us his journey in studying and practicing psychology and how it led him to his research in joy.
