What are the 4Qs? (1) Three favorite films. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out. Andy Cochrane's Immersive Short “The Carrier” played at both FI-LA and Sherman Oaks Festival to rave review and, in fact, he is largely responsible for the festivals adding a new category called “Immersive Short - AR/VR/MR/360”. Nerding out with Andy is a happy place for me which is why Friday's interview is 2 1/2 hours long. I was definitely eager to get to his 4 Questions to see what inspired an endlessly creative talent like Andy. On today's CrimsonCast, GC goes solo on some topics in and around college basketball, starting with the lack of transfers into Indiana's roster so far, the importance of not panicking for fans, and some thoughts on team building, culture building, and the problem with relying too heavily on talent rankings. Then the discussion moves to the concept of "fit" in college athletics, and how the fit of a coach and a program is perhaps the most important consideration. Finally, around the 30 minute mark, we finish with an extended look at the global soccer transfer market, the lessons we can glean from how it works, and why that may end up being the ideal model for college athletics to follow.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today's guest is the amazing Rob Kazinsky. Rob and I have never worked together, but we've been in the same circles for years and it was such a pleasure to sit down and talk with him! You know Rob from his time as Sean Slater on EastEnders, and from playing Chuck Hansen in Pacific Rim and Orgrim in Warcraft. And now, he is fulfilling my dream and joining the Stark Trek universe. You can currently see him as Zeph in Section 31! We talk about the new movie and the controversy it's stirring up among the Star Trek faithful. We also just talk about life, including Rob's autism diagnosis and how he has weathered some challenging moments over the course of his career. I was surprised at how deep we got in such a short time, and I think you'll enjoy this conversation! Be sure to stick around for the Hindsight, where producer Jeph and I discuss the episode and open up the Mail Sack for some fan emails. In this lively episode of the Wise_N_Nerdy Podcast, hosts Charles and Joe bring their unique blend of humor, insight, and camaraderie as they tackle another week of fatherhood and fandom. The show kicks off with the Question of the Week: "What is your favorite Disney movie?" Joe enthusiastically chooses Tron, showcasing his love for sci-fi classics. Meanwhile, Charles counters with nostalgic picks like Hawmps! and The Apple Dumpling Gang, setting the tone for a playful and diverse episode. The duo takes their customary roll of the dice, landing first on the "How do I...?" segment. This week, the discussion revolves around instilling a love for learning in children, where Joe and Charles debate the balance between nurturing curiosity and managing screen time—a challenge every modern parent knows well. Next, the dice roll brings the "Parliament of Papas" segment. Charles shares his thoughts on spousal support for creative endeavors, expressing his wish for a partner who might co-create alongside him. This heartfelt moment deepens the conversation, showing the personal stakes of balancing creativity and relationships. The fates then reward us with the "Daddy, tell me a story" segment. Here, Charles opens up about how The Matrix altered his worldview, sparking a broader discussion about media's influence. Joe adds his perspective, reflecting on how Kurt Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron shaped his understanding of individuality and equality. Listeners get their chance to shine as CaseyJay and Devocite chime in with thoughtful SpeakPipe messages, leading to a detour into a hilarious bad dad joke showdown. Devocite sets the bar with a couple of groan-worthy zingers, but Charles and Joe don't hesitate to contribute a few pun-filled gems of their own. Finally, the episode wraps with the "What are you Nerding out about?" segment. Joe shares his excitement about listening to Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, comparing its humor and charm to The Princess Bride. Charles, meanwhile, recounts the recent snowstorm and how it provided a relaxing escape, while Joe recalls building a towering six-foot snowman with his kids—a family memory in the making. So, whether you're here for the parenting advice, nerdy tangents, or just some great laughs, remember: Find your FAMdom and join us next time for more adventures on Wise_N_Nerdy: Where Fatherhood Meets Fandom.

In the latest episode of Wise_N_Nerdy, Charles and Joe dive into another fun-filled session of their signature segments, beginning with the Question of the Week: "What is the video or sound clip that stays rent-free in your head?" The hosts share some of their favorite quotable moments from movies, like "As you wish" from The Princess Bride and "That'll do, Donkey" from Shrek. These iconic lines have woven their way into their daily lives, providing endless amusement and nostalgic vibes. Next, the roll of the dice decides it's time for the “How do I...?” segment. This week's topic? Strategies for telling someone you're not the right person for a job. Charles and Joe delve into the nuanced balance of capability and passion, offering insightful advice on gracefully bowing out when the role doesn't align with your interests. Moving on, the fates choose the "What are you Nerding out about?" segment. Joe gushes about The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson, a book he simply cannot put down. The duo then transitions to a discussion of Solo Leveling, celebrating the premiere of Season 2. Charles shares his emotional reaction to the movie Better Man, a biopic about Robbie Williams that left a lasting impression on him. Listeners are treated to a pair of speakpipes from Devocite and TheFullRunThrough, adding their voices to the conversation. Then, laughter ensues with a "bad dad joke" submitted by Devocite about a couple of candles. Bonus bad dad joke for those that actually read these notes: "Why don't candles ever get lonely? Because they're always in wax-ellent company." When the dice decide it's time for "Parliament of Papas", the hosts take on a thrilling debate: Maze Runner vs. Hunger Games. They examine the compelling worlds and character dynamics of both franchises, sparking plenty of friendly banter. Finally, the episode wraps up with the ever-popular "Daddy, tell me a story" segment. Joe recounts his harrowing experience of going to school during a hurricane, while Charles reflects on being on an ambulance during a treacherous snowstorm. Their vivid stories remind listeners of the resilience required during extreme weather. So, what are you waiting for? Find your FAMdom with Wise_N_Nerdy's latest episode. Darol and Bruce joined us on the occasion of their newest folk music collab: their new album Lockdown Breakdown album. Folk music has often been associate with nerdiness, so we get right into their nerdy roots with Bruce's love of fountain pens, his background in mechanical engineering and all facts about American roots music, Bluegrass music and fiddle music you can stand. They each talk about their origins: Bruce in the Bronx and Darol in Northern California, which eventually led him to co-founding the David Grisman Quintet. We discuss the social aspect of the old time and bluegrass music world and how that has translated into the way they each approach socializing. They discuss the thousands of fiddle lessons they've given younger players and why they like to mentor younger generations. And of course, the album, which was recorded live in a Nashville studio in just a few days. They talk about what the energy was like in the room for all their live takes during the session.
