Till the Reformation, singing was performed by trained choirs, clergy in Latin (Gregorian chant, polyphone); the congregation was mostly silent. Then came the shift – the congregation started to sing, in their own languages. John Calvin (French, 1509-1564), wrote simple melodies so that people could sing easily. Songs were also written to teach and mind people of the Word of God; the focus was God. The sermon is through Music and has 7 points. 1. Invocation and Encouragement (Psalm 96: 9-11) 2. Celebration and Joy 3. Worship – It's about God 4. Confession (Psalm 139) 5. Songs and Biblical Content 6. Music & Style 7. Obedience & Response - Pastor Joseph Thomas, Pastor Jason Heim - Sunday, August 31, 2025
