Giving God's Way - Matthew 6:2-4
Introduction The Word of God will set people free. The Word of God and the Holy Spirit can do what man's counsel cannot. Encouragement to heed the Word of God. Psalms 106 Reading Psalms 106, focusing on specific verses: Verse 1: Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endureth forever. Verse 8: Nevertheless, He saved them for His name's sake that He might make His mighty power to be known. The psalmist is declaring his glory to God. The psalmist is sharing disturbing things from the history of Israel. God is merciful, more than anyone. The psalmist wants to thank God for His goodness. Acknowledging the need to praise, thank, and honor God. Questioning how many are willing to worship God in hard times. Expressing gratitude for not having to go to hell and for waking up with God's grace. Acknowledging that God hasn't lost any of His power. God is the Answer There are days when praising God is difficult. The devil has answers, but God is the ultimate answer. The Word of God is what is needed in times of need. The psalmist is sharing disturbing things from the history of Israel. Admitting that there are few days when things feel right. Expressing the need for God's grace daily. When missing the mark, grab hope and ask for more grace. Remembering God People forget what God has done for them. They get wrapped up in worldly things. The need to remember God every day. Depending on God is essential. There are things that grieve and trouble the soul. The calling to preach the Word of God is a demand from God. It is important to preach the Word of God. The psalmist is teaching to remind and open memories of Israel's wrongdoings. Giving God praise for mercy and grace. Standing at the foot of the cross like everyone else. God has been good to everyone. Sin and Forgiveness Admitting to having sinned with ancestors. Needing God's forgiveness. Without God, everyone would be in hell. Fathers did not understand the wonders in Egypt. They did not remember the multitude of mercies. God had done so many miracles in Egypt. Before they got to the sea, they forgot. Without God, we would be lost. How many have had God do miracles? Sometimes we do not understand the wonders He has done. The flesh is wicked and prone to fail. Losing minds over things when God touches us. Forgetting miracles that were marveled at. Not excluding oneself from that company. Everything in the heart has already been filtered by God. Forgetting the multitude of mercy. Needing to be reminded of going to heaven and not hell. Being poked to remember God's wonders. God's mercies are miraculous. Forgetting the wonders and mercies. Provoking God At the Red Sea, the fire and cloud went behind them. The Egyptians couldn't see them. Despite this, they provoked God. They challenged Moses, saying they were brought out to die in the wilderness. People provoke God by being unbelieving. Nevertheless, God commended His love. Christ died for sinners. God saved them because of His namesake, not because of them. God will straighten people out even though they provoke Him. God was sending a statement to the world that these are His people. Moses was told to have the people stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. Moses stretched the rod out over the water. An east wind blew all night, parting the water. They went across on dry ground. Wondering what they felt like when they stepped out on the other side. That feeling is in you. Forgetting God's wonders and mercies will provoke God. You are not above sin. He led them through the depths as through the wilderness. He saved them from their enemies. The waters covered their enemies. Then they believed His words and sang His praise. The very next verse, they got thirsty and hungry.
No one knows how to reward like our Heavenly Father. As a Father who offered His Best in Jesus, He is moved when we trust Him by offering our best. The reward of offering our best is culminated in us being trusted with what is in His heart, and trusted with the resources and power reserved for those who can be trusted. In this powerful message, Ps. Colin encourages us to be among those people.
God is moving in your life, but you need to see and feel His Spirit moving before you. When you're able to see and give Him the praise for it, it bolsters your faith and becomes a story to share with others. These moments are necessary for you and helpful for others. Look for God to move today and share the news with someone. Don't be discouraged if they don't yet understand. 1 Corinthians 2:14-16 14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of ChristFollowing Jesus and enjoying life are not opposite ends of the spectrum. Every day we are investing into small and big things. Whether it's our family, hobbies, work, church, or anything in between. Our lifestyle reflects our priorities. This message will focus on making God the main priority in our lives so that we live a life fully devoted to him rather than just giving him our leftovers. Because giving God our leftovers is very…CHRISTIAN-ISH.
It's the big moments of our lives that get the headlines—but what if the small, ordinary ones matter just as much? What would it look like to give God ALL OF IT? -- Questions for Reflection & Discussion How do you currently view your daily work (whether that's a job, caregiving, studying, etc.)? Do you see it as sacred or separate from your spiritual life? What would it look like to intentionally invite God into your workday this week? Who has God placed in your life right now that might be open to deeper conversation or friendship? What routines or habits are currently shaping your life—are they helping or hindering your walk with God?

1 Chronicles 16 reminds us that gratitude isn't seasonal—it's continual. God is good and His love never ends, so our praise shouldn't either. This message calls us to thank God for who He is, how He saves, and the security He offers. Every breath is reason to say “Amen” and give Him glory.
Join us each week as Dr. Justin Dancer brings the word of God to life and applies it to our lives.
Paul tells the church at Galatia, “Yall were running the race with all you had, exerting all the effort you could, but something happened and it has hindered your running.” What happened? Circumcision. It's hard to run when you've had a knife cut into private part! That is a lot of pain and it takes a little while to heal up! Paul uses two words in the Greek to explain what he means by “hinder” but we don't fully grasp it in the English translations. Check out this podcast to see what Paul means and ask. Yourself this question, “Am I giving my all for Jesus? For the kingdom? Or is something hindering me from fully serving him?
What captivates your attention daily? While most of us readily admit that our spiritual life deserves priority, our actual time allocation often tells a different story. This thought-provoking episode challenges us to examine the disparity between what we claim to value and where we invest our hours.Jesse Cope delivers a powerful wake-up call about our digital distractions, asking pointed questions about how much time we dedicate to streaming services, social media scrolling, mobile games, and sports compared to prayer and scripture reading. The message hits home: our calendar and screen time reveal our true priorities far more accurately than our intentions.Drawing from Matthew 16, we explore Jesus's paradoxical teaching that "whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." This foundation helps us understand authentic discipleship as a path requiring genuine sacrifice—something increasingly countercultural in our comfort-oriented society. The episode gains remarkable perspective through stories of Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War through Vietnam, whose extraordinary sacrifices highlight how misaligned our modern priorities often become. These accounts seamlessly connect to historical accounts of early Christian martyrs who faced death for their faith, reminding us that Christians continue to face persecution globally today.Rather than offering simple solutions, this episode confronts us with what Jesus called the question of a lifetime: "Who do you say that I am?" Your answer fundamentally shapes everything else—including how you'll spend the next 24 hours. What comes first in your life? It's easy to claim our priorities - God, family, country - but do our daily habits tell a different story? In this thought-provoking episode, I challenge us all to honestly examine what we do before opening our Bibles or bowing our heads in prayer.Marriage serves as a powerful metaphor throughout our discussion. Remember how you dressed up for dates, washed your car, and put your best foot forward while courting? Yet after the wedding, many of us give our spouses only the leftover scraps of our attention while reserving our best efforts for bosses and colleagues who don't even love us. One particularly moving story illustrates this perfectly: a husband who prioritized work comes home to find only crumbs of food left for him - a physical representation of the emotional leftovers his wife received daily. The biblical prophet Joel calls us to "return to the Lord with all your heart" - not through empty gestures but through genuine spiritual renewal. This message resonates profoundly for America today. As Daniel Webster reminded us, our nation's founding succeeded because "the character of our countrymen was sober, moral and religious." Without these Christian principles as our foundation, liberty simply cannot survive."Christless conservatism" may be the greatest danger facing our nation - even more than leftism or socialism. When we separate God from state (not just church from state), we cut the anchor from our ship, leaving us adrift at the mercy of moral relativism and the whims of those in power. Recent political victories might be merely the beginning of a long journey back to spiritual health, not the end of our national struggles. How do you commemorate those who sacrificed for America? Do we honor the principles of the Bunker Hill Monument, or have we replaced meaningful remembrance with celebrity worship? Let's recommit ourselves to the unchanging principles that made America great - not just in our words, but in how we spend our time and attention each day.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

Giving God All The Glory
Join us as we continue our series.
"In the first two weeks of this sermon series starting out the year, we've talked about reading the Bible and setting new patterns for growth within us. For the next two weeks — today and next week — we will discuss pursuing excellence in our worship. Because there are real implications when we give less than our best. If we give less than our best in our marriage, our work, or our extra responsibilities, we could lose our jobs, you could lose our wives, our kids, or our friends, right? But we don't feel the same impending consequences when we don't give God our best. But we should. There's something on the line here. Colossians 3:17 is a foundational verse we'll look at more next week, but let's introduce it briefly here: "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Whatever you do. That includes … everything — every place you go, every person you talk to, every task you take on. And it's not a call to do your best. Paul, who writes this, actually takes it a step further. He says, do it in the name of Jesus. This means that the places we go, the people we talk to, and the tasks we take on are all opportunities to represent Jesus … to give effort for Jesus … and to bring honor to Jesus. They're opportunities for us to … worship Jesus."
“The Kind of Giving God is Pleased by” - a lesson on giving unto God in a way that results in God being pleased and in the unbelieving world giving glory to God. Music: “Take Me Deeper” by the Ken Ferguson band
Read Online“I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” John 1:26–27Now that our Christmas Octave is completed, we immediately begin to look toward the future ministry of our Lord. In our Gospel today, Saint John the Baptist is the one who points us to that future ministry of Jesus. He acknowledges his mission to baptize with water is one that is temporary and only a preparation for the One Who is coming after him.As we saw in several of our Advent readings, Saint John the Baptist is a man of great humility. His admission that he is not worthy to untie even Jesus' sandal straps is proof of this fact. But ironically, it is this humble admission that makes him so great!Do you want to be great? Deep down we all do. This desire goes hand in hand with our innate desire for happiness. We want our lives to have meaning and purpose, and we want to make a difference. The question is “How?” How do you do this? How do you achieve true greatness? From a worldly perspective, greatness can often become synonymous with success, riches, power, admiration from others, etc. But from a divine perspective, greatness is achieved by humbly giving God the greatest glory we can with our lives.Giving God all the glory has a double effect upon our lives. First, doing so allows us to live in accord with the truth of life. The truth is that God and God alone deserves all our praise and glory. All good things come from God and God alone. Second, humbly giving God all the glory and pointing to the fact that we are unworthy of Him has the reciprocal effect of God reaching down and elevating us to share in His life and His glory.Reflect, today, upon your calling to imitate the humility of Saint John the Baptist. Never shy away from humbling yourself before the greatness and glory of God. Doing so will not demean you or hamper your greatness. Rather, only in the deepest humility before the glory of God is God able to draw you into the greatness of His very life and mission. Lord, I give all glory and praise to You and You alone. You are the source of all good; without You I am nothing. Help me to continually humble myself before You so that I may share in the glory and greatness of Your life of grace. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved.
