Reality is...all racism is not the same and a lot of my friends over the last three weeks have had some hard conversations with themselves, their families and even their clients. Some have worked hard to educate themselves and understand what the black community needs, other have refused there even is an issue, even with all 50 states and countries across the globe protesting, and others have analysis paralysis. The deeper you dig into this, the more you will start to see how your actions may have contributed to others pain without ever using a curt word or having hate in your heart. How do you navigate this new world, and I say new because some of you are just starting to open your hearts and minds, and start to move forward personally and professionally. Let's have a real chat...Recommended Reading List:Me & White SupremacyStamped from the BeginningThe New Jim CrowSo You Wanna Talk about RaceWhite FragilityOnline Education Resources:Nove ReidBe The BridgeMonique Melton
Need a little kick in the pants during this shelter-in-place? Well here it is! We have all been getting through this pandemic in different ways, and trust I know this situation is scary, and crappy and down right discouraging. If you are a small business the toll things have taken on us are unprecedented and for some, they have lost everything! But we rise...we start again and we don't give up! When door after door after door closes we find new doors to open, kick down or just burn down until we have reached our goals!I have been on fire I must admit, this big fat red reset button sitting on my desk was slammed with double fist a few months ago and I have admit, I have been proud of the work that has been done. There is SO much more to do, but one of things that was accomplished was the launch of Tog Academy, a free online education group for novice/beginner and intermediate photographers. There is also a learning path for beginner film and wedding photographers. I am finally sharing what I know in a way that is organized and sets you up for success no matter what level you are. This is a slow paced learning group, and we will all grow together!I look forward to seeing you there! Join Tog Academy Today!

Covid-19 also known as the Corona virus has our US economy in a strong hold and if you are a creative small business the industry has came to a screeching halt. Early on, before this virus was ever labeled as a pandemic, Jake and Tabatha McAnally were sending up smoke signals to their friends and family and in most cases were getting shut down. I am so excited to welcome them to the show to discuss what some of their early concerns were about this virus, how it has impacted their business, and how they are moving forward even in the midst of so much unknown. This episode is not one for the faint, as Tabatha and Jake with McAnally Moments share some real transparent moments when their fears became a reality and what measures they are taking to protect their home, business and most of all their little one. Also, stay tuned for Episode 4 as discuss things you can be working on right now to improve the foundation of your business with Octavia Elease Photography, business marketing strategist. Being fired can be one of the most career shaping opportunities you will ever experience. If all you ever received was positive feedback how would you ever be stretched and forced to grow? As a business creative there are some things that we often do to self sabotage a real learning opportunity by being in our feelings! I will share some of my own land minds that I stepped in and how I overcame them to continue to grow my personal brand. You can't let a negative experience completely destroy your personal brand, but it can be an opportunity for growth and change...both which are great things!
Feeling like you got the holiday blues?! Sometimes it's a verse, a funny meme, or a TRUE story of hope to really change the tide. I am fully aware that the holidays can bring about some real sadness, I have experienced personally off and on throughout the years but this season I found myself buzzing and excited like those weirdo's down the street that put out their Christmas tree on Thanksgiving day! But like I mentioned on this episode our lives forever changed on Jan 11th 2019 and my relationship with God grew became more transparent than I ever imagined. When you are desperate and out of control it really reveals some things about yourself. So I wanted to share a story with you..one of a true miracle, one of mercies and grace, forgiveness and hope! The Logans will walk you through their son's tragic car accident that night, two other kids lost their lives, Willie laid in a coma for almost a month having lost a leg, multiple broken bones and suffered severe brain trauma. He had to learn to talk, walk, eat and do the basic day-to-day things we often take for granted. He has had to exercise his mind to get his memories back all while learning how to use a new prosthetic leg...all at the tender age of 16. His journey had so many twist and turns, ups and downs, and I hope this amaizing story will bring you perspective and hope in the midst of whatever you are going through.
In this episode we will be covering Imposter Syndrome...what it is and how you can overcome it. Imposter Syndrome is the feeling that you did not earn your success, but rather got lucky. You may have feelings of being a fraud, an imposter around those who you feel "earned it." They know what they are doing and you don't and if folks knew the truth you would seriously be fired...immediately! Well friend I am here to tell you that you are NOT alone in these feelings...AND there are many layers to this syndrome, they are real and debilitating. Imposter syndrome can often have you staying silent, when you really do have a view point that matters, never feeling good enough, and often time isolated and alone. Do you suffer from feelings like this? Race is the photography community is an ongoing conversation. Just the "race" word alone has some running in the other direction, but the conversation must be had. It is not something that can be swept under the rug, and on today's episode we have a chance to chat with Dr. Tomayia Colvin, the founder of The Photo Cookout, and get a glimpse into how she has used her education to change the conversation. Not seeing someone who looked like her at photography conferences prompted her to create her own conference with black educators and black attendees, but it has grown into something so much bigger. We will also talk about how you can create a more diversified small business using some of the simple practices used by many larger corporations.
