Today, we're going to talk about reality, and whether we can label photos and videos to protect our shared understanding of the world around us. To do this, I sat down with Verge reporter Jess Weatherbed, who covers creative tools for us — a space that's been totally upended by generative AI. We've been talking about how the photos and videos taken by our phones are getting more and more processed for years on The Verge. Here in 2026, we're in the middle of a full-on reality crisis, as fake and manipulated ultra-believable images and videos flood onto social platforms at scale. So Jess and I discussed the limitations of AI labeling standards like C2PA, and why social media execs like Instagram boss Adam Mosseri are now sounding the alarm. We get into Romero's Instagram post and whether “disgrace” was a translation issue or another not-so-subtle dig at the people running Spurs. From a historically dead January window to PSR reality, loan market weirdness, and why the club feels completely directionless, we ask the big one: did we actually try and fail, or just choose not to act? Plus: how much slack does Frank get when the squad is held together with tape, and does the lack of signings quietly buy him time? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
View This Week's Show NotesStart Your 7-Day Trial to Mobility CoachJoin Our Free Weekly Newsletter: The AmbushIn this episode of The Ready State Podcast, we're joined by Dr. Kevin Hall—one of the world's leading metabolism researchers and a longtime NIH scientist—for a wide-ranging conversation on what the research actually says about weight loss, energy balance, and the modern food environment.Dr. Hall explains what we've learned from real-world and tightly controlled studies, including his work following The Biggest Loser contestants, and why exercise doesn't fully prevent the metabolic adaptations that can accompany major weight loss. We also unpack why “calories in, calories out” is both true in principle and often misunderstood in practice, how ultra-processed foods can drive overeating, and what GLP-1 medications may be changing in appetite biology. The episode also touches on Dr. Hall's departure from a 21-year career at the NIH, following the censorship of his team's findings on ultra-processed foods when they didn't align with preferred narratives—an experience he describes as chilling for scientific communication. Finally, we explore the practical challenges of doing high-quality nutrition research, why confident opinions can outpace the data, and what it will take to better understand—and ultimately prevent—diet-related chronic disease. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeWhy metabolism isn't “broken” — and why larger bodies burn more calories at restWhat the Biggest Loser study actually revealed about weight loss and regainWhy exercise doesn't “save” your metabolism during extreme dietingHow ultraprocessed foods change how much people eat — without acting like addictive drugsWhy calories in vs. calories is often misunderstood in practiceHow genetics and environment interact to shape body weightWhat GLP-1 drugs are really doing — and what they don't fixWhy nutrition science is underfunded, politicized, and desperately neededChapters(00:00) - Kevin Hall, PhD, Metabolism Researcher(01:01) - Dr. Hall on the Ready State Podcast(04:10) - Misconceptions About Metabolism(04:54) - The Biggest Loser Study & Metabolism Influence(13:09) - Challenges in Nutrition Research(19:10) - Metabolism's Role in Weight Loss(22:13) - Vitality Blueprint: Importance of Blood Work(25:45) - Calories In, Calories Out: Simplistic View?(30:45) - Understanding GLP-1 Agonists(32:20) - The Food Environment's Impact(36:05) - Ultra-Processed Foods and Caloric Intake(38:02) - The Complexity of Obesity(41:40) - Solutions for Our Food System(48:23) - Causes of Brain Fog(49:34) - Element: Nutritional Insights(51:39) - RFK Jr. Discussion(01:01:40) - Politics' Influence on Science(01:04:35) - Leaders in Nutrition Science(01:06:48) - Can Weight Loss Be Achieved?(01:08:10) - Universal Diets: Myth or Reality?(01:12:35) - Why Doritos Lead to Overeating(01:13:21) - Understanding Visceral Fat(01:14:04) - Momentous: Nutritional Products(01:20:25) - Book/TV Show/Music Recommendations(01:21:11) - Connecting with Dr. Hall(01:21:52) - OutroConnect with KevinWebsite | Bluesky | X | LinkedInBook: Food Intelligence: The Science of How Food Both Nourishes and Harms UsCheck out The Biggest Loser Study2019 Study: Ultra-Processed Diets Cause Excess Calorie Intake and Weight GainHuge thanks to our sponsors, Vitality, Momentous, and LMNT.

Is "developer-friendly" AI security actually possible? In this episode, Bryan Woolgar-O'Neil (CTO & Co-founder of Harmonic Security) joins Ashish to dismantle the traditional "block everything" approach to security.Bryan explains why 70% of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are running locally on developer laptops and why trying to block them is a losing battle . Instead, he advocates for a "coaching" approach, intervening in real-time to guide engineers rather than stopping their flow .We dive deep into the technical realities of MCP (Model Context Protocol), why it's becoming the standard for connecting AI to data, and the security risks of connecting it to production environments . Neil deGrasse Tyson: Why Your God Is Too Small & The Truth About Alien “Pets” What if humanity is just a 1% DNA shift away from being an alien science project? In this earth-shattering episode of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, world-renowned astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson (Director of the Hayden Planetarium and host of StarTalk) joins us to deconstruct the greatest mysteries of existence. From simulation theory and the multiverse to near-death experiences (NDEs) and the Atheist vs. Spiritual debate, Neil goes unfiltered on why our current understanding of reality might be fundamentally limited by our own biology. Are we smart enough to understand the universe? We might be smarter after this conversation. In this episode, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson breaks down: - The Big Bang Theory Reunion: Neil shares behind-the-scenes stories from his cameos, his “beef” with Raj Koothrappali, and what it was like seeing “his people” represented on a hit sitcom - Alien “Zoo Hypothesis”: Why advanced civilizations might view humans as “toddlers” or keep us in a galactic aquarium - Simulation Theory: Why it is mathematically difficult to argue against the idea that we live in a computer-generated reality - “Small God” Problem: Why Neil believes modern religion doesn't account for the true scale of the cosmos - 95% of Reality is Missing: Understanding the dark matter and dark energy mysteries that drive the universe - Can We Explain the Soul? Why physics is actually “easier” to solve than the human mind, body, and spirit - Limits of Intelligence: Neil's fear that humans may not be “neurologically smart enough” to ever truly figure out the universe - NDEs & Psychedelics: A scientific look at what happens to the brain during mystical encounters - Quantum Physics & The Multiverse: Why parallel universes with different laws of physics are scientifically plausible and where we fit in the “Many-Worlds” theory - Spirituality vs. Science: Why Neil refuses to deny anyone's spiritual experiences, even while offering a different scientific explanation for them - The Ultimate Mysteries: Specific questions about the cosmos that Neil deGrasse Tyson most wants to solve before he dies Are we alone? Are we simulated? Or are we just too small to see the truth? Watch this masterclass in the cosmic perspective and decide for yourself. With every board member and CEO demanding a generative AI strategy yesterday, how much of the conversation is about creating real business value versus simply not being left behind? Agility requires more than just speed; it demands a fundamental shift in how we approach problem-solving and storytelling, especially when a technology like AI re-writes the rulebook. Today, we're going to talk about the real tension that exists between the incredible promise of generative AI and the practical, often messy reality of enterprise adoption. We'll explore how to bridge the gap between deeply technical products and the clear, compelling narratives that actually convince customers and boards to invest. In this episode, Professor Nick Giordano and John Lott, President and Founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center, expose the reality of ICE enforcement, Trump's immigration record, and the statistics the mainstream media refuses to cover. Despite the headlines, the data reveals a different story about U.S. immigration policy. From the "organized movement" against ICE to the truth about American citizen detentions, we break down why public perception is so disconnected from reality. What You'll Learn in This Episode The Trump vs. Obama Record: How historical ICE error rates compare across administrations. Trade deadline eve gets spicy fast after a new report out of The Athletic delivers the money quote from Giannis: “I want to be here, but I want to win.” Evan and Tiki translate what that really means for Milwaukee, why the Giannis uncertainty froze the market, and why so many teams made their moves early. Then Ian Begley joins the show to lay out the hard truth for Knicks fans: New York is on the outside looking in on Giannis right now, not because they “love their roster,” but because they simply do not have the assets to win that bidding war. Begley explains what the Knicks could still do before 3:00 PM, including potential targets like Jose Alvarado and a backup big, plus how Deuce McBride's status factors in. Finally, the conversation widens to the East shifting under everyone's feet, from Cleveland's aggressive swing to Boston's moves, and why the real Giannis sweepstakes might be headed for the offseason.
Renaissance English History Podcast: A Show About the Tudors
If you've ever visited a Tudor palace in winter and wondered why it feels so cold inside, the answer is simple: it always was. In this episode, I explore how people in Tudor England actually stayed warm indoors. Not central heating, not roaring fires in every room, but a daily system built around one hearth, heavy clothing, hot food, shared warmth, and carefully managed routines. We'll look at fireplaces and fuel, why most rooms were never heated at all, how beds were warmed instead of bedrooms, and how people wrote, read, and worked with numb fingers in firelit rooms. From foot warmers taken to church to warming pans slipped between the sheets, heat in the Tudor world was local, temporary, and precious. Understanding how the Tudors dealt with cold changes how we think about daily life, privacy, sleep, work, and even learning in the sixteenth century. Warmth wasn't ambient. It was something you had to make, protect, and share. This is the everyday reality of living in cold stone houses, with one fire, long winters, and no escape from the chill. In this episode of the Man Within Podcast, host Sathiya Sam reflects on his transformative journey from a decade-long struggle with pornography addiction to achieving over one million downloads of his podcast. He shares the pivotal moments that led to his recovery, emphasizing that it wasn't sheer willpower or discipline that made the difference, but rather a shift in mindset and the establishment of supportive systems. Sathiya recounts his early experiences with pornography, the challenges he faced during his university years, and the realization that he needed to change the systems in his life that perpetuated his addiction. He highlights the importance of community support and the role it played in his healing process, ultimately leading him to help others facing similar struggles.
What happens when a decorated Marine combat pilot, squadron intelligence officer, Hollywood insider, and bestselling starts asking questions about UFO disclosure, government secrecy, and psychological operations? This one goes deep. The conversation goes far beyond "aliens." In this episode, M.D. Selig — author of the international bestselling thriller Hush — joins the show from a boat in the Pacific to unpack the uncomfortable intersection between military intelligence, narrative control, and the shaping of public perception. Drawing from his background in military intelligence and storytelling, he breaks down how narratives are engineered, why timing matters, and how institutions manage information during moments of public tension. We explore the possibility that disclosure itself may not simply be about revealing truth — but about controlling the context in which truth is received. From military information warfare to media framing, from MH370 to 9/11, this discussion pulls on the threads that connect secrecy, perception management, and long-term narrative control. This episode isn't about sensationalism. It's about examining how institutional power shapes what we're allowed to see — and what we're conditioned not to question. If you're interested in UFO disclosure, psychological operations, state power, military intelligence, or the broader war over reality itself, this conversation will stay with you Topics Covered: · The real story behind "UFO disclosure" — and why timing matters · Psychological operations (psyops), and how narratives are engineered · The architecture of state secrecy and perception management Military intelligence and information warfare Government secrecy and institutional power structures Media framing and engineered consensus · The disappearance of Malaysian Flight MH370 · 9/11 and long-tail information control · Deep state dynamics and institutional power patterns · The blurred line between fiction, classified reality, and power · Speaking out publicly after serving inside the system For more info: Web: http://www.mdselig.com As always, please hit the subscribe button if you like and support what we do! SaaStr 840: From 1 Agent to 20+: The Reality of Managing Multiple AI Agents Across Your GTM with SaaStr's CEO and CAIO Eight months and 20+ AI agents later, what does managing a multi-agent GTM stack actually look like day to day? SaaStr's CEO and Founder, Jason Lemkin, and SaaStr's Chief AI Officer, Amelia Lerutte, get candid about what's working, and what's not. $4.8M in additional pipeline later, AI agents deployed across Go To Market have helped deal volume doubled and win rates double. But here's what nobody talks about on LinkedIn: the 15-20 hours per week each spent maintaining agents, the messy flows holding it all together, and why you still can't outrun your own AI. They cover the 90/10 build vs. buy rule, why hyper-segmentation is the key to AI SDR success, what to demand from vendors before signing, and why bad context will always produce bad emails, whether a human or an AI writes them. Plus, they walkthrough how they built SaaStr's custom AI VP of Marketing agent to plan and execute every campaign for the year, grounded entirely in data. If you've deployed your first agent and are thinking about what comes next, or you're skeptical the whole thing works at all, this one's for you. --------------------- This episode is Sponsored in part by HappyFox: Imagine having AI agents for every support task — one that triages tickets, another that catches duplicates, one that spots churn risks. All of it sits inside the HappyFox omnichannel, AI-first support stack — Chatbot, Copilot, and Autopilot working as one. Today's episode digs into one of the biggest challenges travel advisors face: the massive gap between what clients think a trip will be like and what the experience is actually going to be. Sean from Virgin Voyages joins Glenda to unpack how client perceptions are shaped long before they talk to an advisor—through clickbait videos, influencer reviews, social media drama, friends' stories, and those glossy marketing photos that never tell the full truth. We break down why assumptions are not facts, why advisors need to lead with real experience, and how understanding a client's mindset, anxieties, and sense of belonging can completely change the outcome of a sale. We talk openly about inclusivity, body confidence, and how often clients are really asking, “Will I fit in there?” even if they never say the words out loud. You'll hear how travel advisors can reclaim their role as the original “influencers” by sharing grounded, experience-based insights rather than reacting to the viral online noise. You'll also learn practical strategies for when a client asks for a specific cruise line, resort, or destination that you know isn't the right fit. We cover how to ask better questions, how to propose alternatives without sounding pushy, and how to shift the conversation from price to value. Because let's be honest, “too expensive” usually means “I don't see the value” or “I don't see myself there.” We also discuss the moments when it's not only okay but necessary to say, “I can't in good conscience book this for you,” and how those boundaries actually build long-term trust. Sean finishes with his top producer tips for selling more Virgin voyages: using advisor communities and tools, leaning into smart upgrades, following up consistently, selling the experience instead of the itinerary, and leading with Virgin's adult-only, inclusive, fun-forward vibe. If you're ready to shift from order-taker to trusted advisor, this episode gives you the language, confidence, and mindset to help clients choose the trip that truly matches who they are and how they want to feel when they travel. Matt Frey spent seven years working as a therapist inside Rikers Island from 2011 to 2018, a job he never imagined taking growing up in the suburbs of New York. In this episode, Matt gives a rare inside look at day-to-day life at Rikers from the inmate perspective, breaking down what really happens in both General Population and Mental Observation housing. He shares firsthand experiences with extreme violence, inmate suicides, unprovoked attacks on staff, and the psychological toll of working inside one of America's most notorious jail systems. Matt also explains how inmates sometimes manipulate mental health services for protection or legal advantage, what it's like hearing confessions protected by confidentiality, and the surreal reality of assessing people just hours after seeing their alleged crimes on the news. Now running his own psychotherapy practice after leaving Rikers, Matt reflects on boundaries, trauma, and how working inside the jail changed him forever. _____________________________________________ #RikersIsland #PrisonStories #TrueCrimePodcast #JusticeSystem #PrisonLife #MentalHealthInPrison #LifeBehindBars #lockedin _____________________________________________ Thank you to AVA for sponsoring this episode: Take control of your credit today. In the allegory of Plato's cave, prisoners see the world only through shadows. Extending this metaphor to AI, AI models are the prisoners and the shadows are streams of data. Are all models converging on a singular representation of reality? On this week's episode of The Quanta Podcast, host Samir Patel speaks with staff writer Ben Brubaker about how, despite being trained on entirely different data types, different models can somehow develop similar internal representations. This topic was covered in a recent story for Quanta Magazine. Each week on The Quanta Podcast, Quanta Magazine editor in chief Samir Patel speaks with the people behind the award-winning publication to navigate through some of the most important and mind-expanding questions in science and math. Joscha Bach explores the nature of consciousness, free will, and reality through the lens of computation, cognitive science, and philosophy. Rather than treating the mind as a mystical entity, Joscha frames consciousness as a constructed dream—a model generated by the brain to make sense of the world and coordinate behavior. We examine why beliefs should remain provisional, how the self functions as a useful fiction, and why suffering emerges when internal learning signals misfire. Joscha explains why free will feels real even if decisions arise before awareness, how meaning exists beyond the individual ego, and why wisdom is not simply knowledge but the ability to orient oneself within larger systems of value.BON CHARGE - 15% off red light therapy products I personally usehttps://www.boncharge.com/knowthyself[Code: KNOWTHYSELF]André's Book Recs: https://www.knowthyselfpodcast.com/book-list___________00:00 — Intro: Josha Bach04:24 — Agnosticism, Evidence, and Logical Alternatives11:20 — Reality as a Mental Simulation13:00 — What Physicalism Actually Claims16:55 — Telepathy, Rituals, and Distributed Minds19:45 — Consciousness Does Not Make Decisions22:55 — Free Will as a Post-Hoc Story24:00 — Consciousness as a Trance State26:00 — Meditation and the Illusion of Self29:10 — Out-of-Body Experiences Explained31:07 — Ad: BON CHARGE36:30 — Why the Brain Fills in Missing Reality39:50 — Dreams, Selves, and Narrative Identity43:20 — Intelligence, Models, and World-Building47:10 — Why Reality Feels Stable51:00 — Meaning, Agency, and Mental Compression55:10 — Why Consciousness Feels Central (But Isn't)59:30 — The Psychological World vs Physical Reality1:04:10 — Intelligence Without Awareness1:08:45 — The Cost of Believing the Self Is Real1:13:30 — Waking Up From the Narrative1:18:40 — What a Cognitive Science View Really Implies1:23:30 — Final Thoughts: Living Inside the Dream___________Episode Resources: https://www.cimc.ai/https://www.instagram.com/andreduqum/https://www.instagram.com/knowthyself/https://www.youtube.com/@knowthyselfpodcasthttps://www.knowthyselfpodcast.comListen to the show:Spotify: https://spoti.fi/4bZMq9lApple: https://apple.co/4iATICX
What happens when the rush toward AI collides with the messy reality of enterprise data that was never designed for it? That is exactly where this fast-tracked episode with Kevin Dattolico from Syntax begins. Before we even hit record, we were swapping stories about music, travel, and a certain farewell concert that set the tone for a conversation that was both grounded and unexpectedly human. But once we got going, the discussion quickly shifted to one of the biggest blind spots I keep hearing about at tech conferences around the world. AI ambition is running far ahead of data readiness. Kevin leads Syntax across the Americas, working with organizations that rely on SAP, Oracle, and complex cloud environments to run their businesses. In our conversation, he shares why many AI initiatives stall or quietly reset the moment they touch real production data. Proofs of concept can look impressive in isolation, but once AI starts interacting with live operational systems, the cracks appear. Inconsistent data, duplicated records, missing context, and governance gaps all surface at once. The result is confusion, unpredictable outputs, and a growing realization that the issue is rarely the model itself. We dig into why ERP data has traditionally been trusted, while unstructured data across emails, documents, sensors, and logs often tells a very different story. Kevin explains where the real friction shows up when companies try to bring those worlds together, and why assumptions about data quality tend to break long before the technology does. It is a refreshingly honest look at what usually goes wrong first, and why leaders are often blindsided even after years of investment. One of the strongest themes in this episode is the shift Kevin sees from AI-first thinking toward a data-first mindset. That does not mean abandoning AI spend. It means rebalancing priorities so those investments actually deliver outcomes the business can stand behind. We talk about what consolidation, cleansing, and transformation look like at enterprise scale, especially for organizations carrying decades of technical debt and fragmented systems. The conversation also takes a thoughtful turn around governance, trust, and leadership. Kevin shares how the role of the chief data officer is changing from gatekeeper to enabler, and why modern governance has to support speed without sacrificing accountability. Along the way, he reflects on the risks of pushing ahead with weak data foundations, particularly in regulated industries where the cost of getting it wrong can be operational, reputational, or worse. And then there is the moment that caught me completely off guard. When I asked Kevin to look back on his career and reflect on someone who made a difference, his answer led to one of the most moving stories I have heard in thousands of interviews. It is a reminder that behind every transformation story, there are people who quietly shape the path forward. If you are wrestling with AI expectations, data reality, or simply wondering whether everyone else feels just as overwhelmed by this shift, this episode will resonate. The challenges Kevin describes are far more common than most leaders admit, and the opportunities for those who get the foundations right are real. So as AI continues to dominate boardroom conversations, are you confident your data is ready to support the decisions you are asking it to make, or is it time to pause and rethink what sits underneath it all? We get into Romero's Instagram post and whether “disgrace” was a translation issue or another not-so-subtle dig at the people running Spurs. From a historically dead January window to PSR reality, loan market weirdness, and why the club feels completely directionless, we ask the big one: did we actually try and fail, or just choose not to act? Plus: how much slack does Frank get when the squad is held together with tape, and does the lack of signings quietly buy him time? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Three years ago, Danny Goler noticed something that didn't quite fit how we usually understand perception. What began as personal exploration has since grown into ‘Code of Reality', a global community of people reporting the same structured phenomenon, including what Danny describes as seeing a matrix-like code when a projected laser is used in altered states. In this episode, we talk about how people come to recognize truth in different ways, how intuition often communicates through the body, and what it asks of us when experiences challenge familiar frameworks. We explore how intuition, embodiment, and lived experience shape the way people recognize truth, and why humility matters when asking bigger questions.
