Today, I share a short story by Mark Twain, entitled The War Prayer. It was written in 1904 but not published until after WW1, when timing was pertinent. It is pertinent, again. Be careful what you wish for, and even more careful what you pray for. Find Rev Kim at www.revkim.ca
The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer is one of my favourite poems and so of course I'd like to share it with you.
Kahlil Gibran was a poet, philosopher and artist, whose work is loved and known as "an expression of the deepest impulses of man's heart and mind." I share his poem "On Joy and Sorrow", in the hopes of helping to dispel some of this toxicity spreading through mainstream trends, otherwise known as spiritual bypass by those who truly walk the path. It's equally ok to be sad, or struggling. Don't deny your experience. Listen to it and honour it. Let's stop the toxic positivity, let's stop the fear shaming, and let's stop feeling bad about not feeling good all the time. It's not realistic, nor should it even be desired. You can't know one without the other. But you can know your true self, and that is where your stability is. Let's light it up, with Rev Kim.
Alan Watts was one of the world's greatest philosophers and teachers of metaphysics of all time and he would have been 106 years old this week. I was listening to a lecture of his that fell into my lap circulating to commemorate his life and contribution to the field I happen to be a bit of a fan of, drawn in by the topic of sleep, a very relevant one for me because I don't do it very well, and heard something different instead. A parallel. I love finding parallels. They're everywhere. It's how this universe is made. As above, so below, as within, so without. And in this case…as in dreams, so in life. Consciousness, and awakening. Dreaming…and becoming lucid. That's my most favourite way to describe spiritual awakening. Lucid living is the way I see it, the way I say it and the way I understand it. Lucid living. Becoming lucid in life. Because this is all just states of consciousness. Judgement, or rather, non-judgement is one of the most important spiritual teachings. It is the path to liberation. Find Rev Kim at www.wakeandbake.ca
Mahatma Gandhi and Ruth from Ozark impart great wisdom we can all learn from.
We're grieving right now, collectively. Grieving life as we knew it, grieving the world and the lives we thought we'd live. We had plans. We had a sense of direction, or at least sort of. We're grieving freedoms and vacations and traditions and smiles. We're grieving the familiar, the familiarity of life. We're grieving our old perception of a safe and predictable, stable ground. It's time to find stability in the unknown. The comforts we identified with were always an illusion anyway.
We have to become a match for the world we're trying to call in. We created this virus, this pandemic, this global crisis, collectively, because we all need it. Each of us is experiencing it differently, based on our own specific needs for growth. The evolution of our planet, of our species, is inevitable and we need to become a match for it. We're not there yet. The evidence? It's in the reflection. What is the pandemic showing you, about you?
How do I know when my loved ones are around? How do I know it's really them? What can I do to improve my ability to communicate with them? Mediumship stories and some personal answers during this magical time of the thinning of the veil. And yes, that's me crying through the last half of it.
Speak THE truth, not YOUR truth. It is said that opinion is the lowest form of knowledge and that empathy is the highest. Don't get sucked in - “speak your truth” is an ego trap.
How I know what I know has been a lifelong adventure. Spirit talks to me, works through me, and with me. It's a miraculous thing.
Families can be hard. Our toughest challenges can come from the ones who are supposed to love us most. But life is rarely lived as it's “supposed to be”...and there are reasons for that. Trust the karmic bonds.
A discussion about ego, with a guided meditation to connect you to the unconditional love that you are.
We hear a lot about self love these days. But what is it and how do you actually do it?
In this episode we look at the nature of suffering and how to transcend it, aka: finding inner peace.
Before we can get into anything else, we have to first understand what we're doing here! Everything is consciousness. And everything we talk about will come back to this subject. So what is it? Listen and find out what it is to Wake and Bake with Rev Kim.
