That is where this Salon starts, and it is the most specific version of the psilocybin and menopause conversation I have heard in public.Kelly McGinty, a nurse practitioner, told a full room at Town Hall Seattle that the drop women feel in perimenopause is physiological rather than imagined. I asked whether that means psilocybin replaces estrogen. She said no, and that she would like more research. Her co-author, Dr. Trish Singh, added that research on menopausal women barely exists at any phase of the transition.Two clinicians describe what they see in their patients, then draw a line at the point where the evidence ends. Most people selling a reframe of midlife will not draw that line on a microphone.What sits on the other side of it: anxiety as a knock on the door rather than a malfunction, why women microdose intuitively instead of on a protocol, and the archetypes we inherit about aging women. The Audition Is Not the Bond Sustainable Presence vs. Performative Effort A bond dies when one person sells a self and the other shops for a feeling. The sale is the feathered act. The shop is the clipboard. Presence is what remains when both stop. The act is never the person. The act is a tool aimed at an end: safety, sex, money, company, status, the high of being picked. That is procurement. Manipulation by function, even when the performer calls it romance. If the effort collapses once the prize is in hand, it was never devotion. It was a campaign that reached its finish line. The judge is inside the same economy. A long script trained women to treat the strongest opening night as evidence of a man. Heat got read as character. Persistence got read as loyalty. Volume got read as value. That training makes a costume easy to buy. It does not make women uniquely foolish. Anyone shopping for a feeling is available to a costume. The costume works because somebody in the room is shopping. The wound staffs both jobs. It writes the act that gets you chosen. It writes the checklist that decides who is allowed to stay. People name that taste. People name that self-respect. A lot of it is old pain running hiring. Non-judgment is required for presence that lasts, and it is not a limp truce. It is the refusal to let the injury do the seeing. A veto that calls itself “standards” is still the wound. A collapse that calls itself “open” is still fear. Neither one can hold a life. The midweek is the audit the campaign cannot fake. Friday still has an audience. Saturday still pays you for arriving. Then the room goes ordinary. No soundtrack hired for the scene. The performer feels unemployed and calls it ingratitude. The spectator feels starved and calls it “they changed.” One was extracting a result. One was consuming a product. A deal that starts in costume collects in costume. Consciousness relating strips the feathers. Not as a vibe. As labor. You arrive with nothing to sell. You stay with no clipboard. You want without turning the other body into a prize. You see without putting them on trial. Effort does not disappear. Effort stops advertising. Two people put need, fear, and limit into the same hour. Neither waits to move first so they can remain the one who cannot lose. Some birds burn a short miracle, get picked, and leave the labor. Other birds have to match. Head. Stride. Timing. If you cannot stay in time, you are not a pair. The market sold the short miracle and called it desire. The match does not trend. It lasts. Under every question, one question. Were you offering yourself, or extracting a result? Were you meeting someone, or grading a show? If both of you take the feathers off tonight, is there still a reason to stay in the room? That is the bond. Not the opening night. The room that remains when nobody is selling and nobody is shopping. Women do not escape the feathers by sitting still. Stillness can be the act. A woman's campaign is often quieter, which is why it gets misnamed as “feminine” and protected from the same charge. The function is identical. Means to an end. Safety. Sex. Money. Company. Status. Being chosen without having to choose.

Bernardo Kastrup, PhD, is a computer scientist, who has recently completed a second doctoral degree in philosophy. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Sean Pauzauskie, author of the book Stage of Fools. Sean Pauzauskie, M.D., is a hospital neurologist in the University of Colorado system, where he conducts clinical research employing neurotechnology, primarily for the optimization of epilepsy management. He is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology and The American Medical Association, and his research experience includes time at The National Institute of Mental Health, The Energy and Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Kaufmann Foundation for entrepreneurship. He is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology's Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum, a highly competitive program that selects 30 out of 40,000 members to develop and implement action plans on advocacy issues related to neuroscience. He is president-elect of the Colorado Medical Society.   As a clinician who works daily with comatose patients, Sean brings scientific authenticity to his literary exploration of cognitive-motor dissociation—a condition where patients remain mentally aware while physically unresponsive.   In my book review, I stated Stage of Fools is a literary fiction by Sean Pauzauskie. We quickly meet Thomas Mariner, a billionaire who appears to have it all - until an unfortunate fishing accident leaves him in a coma in a San Francisco ICU.   The entire story is in the mind of Thomas while he is in a coma and flashbacks to his childhood and early adulthood. Despite his fortune and fame, Thomas has demons, and these demons have created problems in his family. His hope? To figure things out, make the needed changes, and save them from what he set in motion due to jealousy, his ego, and rash actions.   I think what is most interesting is that the author is a neurologist. He offers a lot of information to help us understand what it might be like inside a brain during a coma. Houman Z. Emami, a native of Iran (ancient Persia), has a bright academic career in Philosophy and Religion, Holism and Consciousness, with earlier careers in Computer Science, Telecommunications, and a number of educational-institute startups. Loved ones and relations lovingly refer to him as “scribe,” “pilgrim,” and “scholar.” A “scribe” is one who decodes and deciphers the teachings of the ancient scrolls, which are symbolic representations of transcendent realms made immanent within a simple framework of understanding. A “pilgrim” is one who leaves the mind behind (is a passerby), leads from the heart, “connects the dots,” is a bridge-builder, and a peacemaker. And a “scholar,” from scolere, is one who lives at ease as a student of life, truth, and wisdom. In this respect, he has written:Let the truth of love be & become the love of truth, and the love of truth be & become the truth of love. That means, the soul genuinely desires love and truth, embraced by and swaying this way and that throughout life, in order to teach us that we must love unconditionally but when finding ourselves in the snares of selfish love, we must pursue truth; and we must pursue truth unconditionally but when we find truth become empty tradition and superstition, we must pursue love.In practice, Houman's spiritual invocation consciously began in his early teens, as a result of a near-death experience (NDE)—taking him back to his early childhood visions, and to his native ancestral teachings of the East, Near East, and the Orient. After his near-death experience and remembering his life's calling more fully from age five, Houman recalled all that proceeded from that age in the divine plan, walking them out and remembering them step by step.Years later, these remembrances and awakenings culminated into visionary experiences and embodiments—involving “theophanies,” meaning divine interventions or encounters.
