What Reality Is Made Of?To ask what reality is made of is to step beyond materialist assumptions. The traditional view insists that matter is the bedrock of existence. Yet evidence from quantum pioneers, neuroscientists, and mystics points elsewhere: reality is vibration, energy, and non‑local consciousness.At the foundation of this worldview is light. Across science and theology, light is described as the universe's premier information bearer. In creation myths, it is the first act of differentiation from the void, the symbol of revelation and truth. In physics, light confronts us with paradox: both wave and particle, continuous and discrete. This duality mirrors the divine—immanent and transcendent—suggesting paradox itself is the signature of ultimate reality.From this paradox flows a radical implication: matter is not solid. What we perceive as particles are localized vibrations, excitations in an underlying quantum field. Imagine the universe as a vast, calm ocean. A ripple upon its surface is what we call a particle. When the energy dissipates, the ripple folds back into the ocean. Solidity is not inherent but an interaction with the Higgs field, a kind of cosmic molasses. The field is primary; the particle is secondary.This vibrational worldview was the bedrock of Nikola Tesla's genius. His famous dictum—“think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration”—was practical insight. Tesla saw the brain as a receiver, consciousness as resonance, and knowledge as something tuned into rather than generated. September 11th in 1893 was the day Swami Vivekananda opened his transmission to the West (and the the world at large) at the Parliament of World Religions so for us it is a very sacred day when we commemorate the "turning of the wheel of dharma" yet again! Strangely, I haven't uploaded this talk until now. It felt fitting to do so since as I type this, we are in the midst of the vrśchika sankranti, that is, the sun's transition from the solar house of tulā (libra) and into vrśchika (scorpio) as per the Vedic system. Moments like this are considered incredibly auspicious for spiritual practice. There's also a flavor of a new beginning, of turning over a new page. As such, it is important to return to the fundamentals at a time like so there couldn't be a better moment for this video, I realize! As humans, we are governed by our core beliefs, many of which we aren't even aware of. There are so many things we believe to be true and so many foundational concepts of our perception we never question. So in this episode, we're going to question them. Ram Dass was an American Spiritual teacher, psychologist, and writer. He gained popularity in the early 1960s by bringing concepts of consciousness and spirituality from India, to America.  His book, "Be Here Now" is a spiritual classic selling over two million copies. He began as a professor at Harvard before being fired along with Timothy Leary for experimenting and advocating the use of psychedelics. Now, as a proper Christian, I was fairly unaware of Ram Dass. That is until the winter of 2024 when my Dad, Dan Miller of 48 Days To The Work & Life You Love fame, was diagnosed with cancer. During the six weeks between his diagnosis and ultimate death, he had little interest in any topic other than spirituality. And one of the people he tuned into was Ram Dass. My brother Jared and my Dad would pull up YouTube videos of Ram Dass and I got my first real exposure. My spiritual journey since then has been nothing short of revelatory. And such was my delight when the giant publisher, Harper, contacted me about doing a show on a new book from Ram Dass. What it ended up being was a new book compiled from over 50 talks Ram Dass conducted, compiled and edited by Parvati Markus, who was at the right hand of Ram Dass since the beginning of his spiritual leadership. Parvati is an author of multiple books on spirituality and one of the closest long term friends to Ram Dass that ever existed. In this episode Parvati joins me to talk through key issues Ram discusses such as our human propensity, especially in western cultures, to think in terms of “us” vs “them.” We discuss Judgement vs appreciation. Then attachments and the danger of what we cling to.
