We are wrapping up January and the topic of Family and Recovery. In this episode, I talk about the importance of resources. Resources for someone starting their recovery journey and those who are family members of someone starting on the path to recovery.Three years ago, I co-wrote a book meant for exactly this reason. It is a raw, honest, and true account that serves both sides of the coin.Drowning in Addiction: Sink or SwimBy: Scott Leeper, Michael Arnold (Maassel), Andrea CarrPURCHASE HERE ON AMAZONDo you have questions for me? In May of 2019, while serving active duty in the Marine Corps, Scott had to take his dad off life-support and watch him take his last breath due to years of alcohol abuse and self-loathing. After many challenges and trials, he is a published author, Life Coach and public speaker! Drowning in Addiction: Sink or Swim is a book about saving lives and giving hope to addicts and loved ones of addicts. We, the authors, believe this book is a lifeline for those affected by addiction to find their path to recovery. We believe recovery is possible, regardless of background or situation. It begins with a choice! We have come together to share our stories, our mission, and our message. All of us have been affected by addiction in various ways, and we offer an unedited account of our stories in this tell-all book about addiction. The mission of this book is to save lives, give hope to family and friends of addicts, provide examples of the hard truths surrounding the consequences of addiction, and provide potential solutions for those addicted to drugs or alcohol. #SoberOCTOBER SERIES SHOW LINKS: 1. Michael Arnold is an alcoholic and drug addict in recovery, and she is loud and proud about it. Her rock bottom was when her heart stopped in an ambulance after suffering a seizure when she detoxed too fast. She almost died. That explains why she is so enthusiastic about her life in recovery. I am excited to have her on the podcast to talk about all of this, and her new book, Drowning in Addiction: Sink or Swim.

A few years ago, Scott Leeper had to make the tough decision of taking his father off of life support and watched him die. From that moment, his life started to spiral out of control. From an affair to being kicked out of the Marines to going into financial ruin, his life had taken a turn down a dark and lonely path. But from those circumstances, Scott has learned the power of vulnerability and embracing that element of masculinity. He realized vulnerability was necessary to move forward and discover what was really going on inside of him. As a masculine, that can be tough. But Scott realized that being vulnerable allowed him to become the best version of himself, not only for him personally, but for those he loves as well.Today, Scott is a certified mindset and health coach, public speaker and the author of the new book"Drowning in Addiction: Sink or Swim," available on March 27th. He's taken his story and used it as a way to help teach men that it's okay to be vulnerable and that in vulnerability, you'll find the strength you’ve been searching for.Find Scott on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pg/mindmusclestrengthFollow Craig on Instagram and Facebook @CraigPerryCoaching

ABOUT:- I am a ball of energy and a hurricane of happiness that is here to serve you - Founder of Michael Arnold Coaching where her slogan is Make Shift Happen. - Co-author of the soon to be released book "Drowning in Addiction: Sink or Swim" - Fur mommy to two hilarious little weiner dogs. Story: - acceptance of my disease (it was never just one drink) - living fear of judgment - being an actor putting on a show- so many secrets- so much shame- the show needed to end - actually loving myself- feeling all the feels - the GIFTS of sobriety: gratitude everyday, attention to detail, actually LIVING - community- find your tribe and surround yourself with people that support you - dealing with my past and making amends and being okay if people didn't accept it - going to Harmony and having all the staff be in recovery, I honestly don't believe I would've been as successful as I am if I had to talk to a therapist that didn't go through addiction like I did. Harmony's staff new me. They really made me feel okay and that I wasn't a bad person Takeaways - my past is my greatest asset - I do not judge. love and tolerance is my code - sobriety is and always will be #1- if I don't have my sobriety then I don't have anything - I have faith- I know the universe has my back. I do good- good shit happens
