And what could lobsters possibly teach us about staying young?Scientists have discovered a remarkable connection between an ancient practice and our cellular aging process - one that celebrities and longevity researchers are quietly using to their advantage. It involves an enzyme in your body that most people don't even know exists, yet it plays a crucial role in how fast (or slow) you age.The twist? You can activate it in just 10 minutes a day, no prescription required.Curious about the biological "switch" that might help you turn back your cellular clock? The inevitable decline of civilization takes center stage as the show kicks off with the miserable results of the FACEBOOK SETTLEMENT, confirming Brian's $4.01 payout, followed by a discussion of the SPORTS BETTING SCANDAL, where MLB players are rigging games over prop bets, confirming that gambling is now actively killing sports; moving to the news, the guys celebrate the DENMARK SOCIAL MEDIA BAN and SCHOOL PHONE BANS, which are already proving that teenagers need mandatory digital detoxes, prompting comparisons to Footloose and the revelation that teens are now passing handwritten notes and taking Polaroids. Naturally, things aren't going well for the hyper-rich, as evidenced by the TESLA EXECUTIVE EXODUS and the launch of WAYMO FREEWAYS, which will surely bring chaos to LA, and the ongoing saga of massive capital destruction via OPENAI LOSSES and META AI FAILURES, prompting Mark Zuckerberg to announce his desperate bid to CURE ALL DISEASES with AI, a feat less audacious than the fraud of AI startup FIREFLY AI TRANSCRIPT, which admitted its original "AI" was just human transcriptionists. They then hit a laundry list of digital woes, including the dubious convenience of APPLE PASSPORTS, the creeping dread of Sam Altman's failing WORLDCOIN EYEBALL SCANS, the ridiculous crypto fraud DEFI OFFICE SPACE that literally copied a movie plot, and Coinbase's inexplicable decision to bring back high-risk ICOs; the absurdity continued with the OPENAI LAWSUIT over a suicidal chatbot that suggested the user "Rest easy, King," and the political maneuvering of the REPUBLICAN BROADBAND REDIRECT, which will gut internet access for the underserved to fund the Treasury, but the real threat to humanity remains the clandestine PREVENTATIVE GENE HACKING startup funded by tech billionaires aiming to create modified babies offshore. In Media Candy, they share reviews of the excellent DIPLOMAT, ZOOTOPIA, and the just-released LUSH DOCUMENTARY, confirming our combined Gen-X fragility, before celebrating two definitive wins for reality: the fact that physicists have finally CRUSHED THE SIMULATION THEORY, and the literary brilliance of Joyce Carol Oates' tweet, which expertly called out Elon Musk as uneducated and uncultured. All this and more on this episode of Grumpy Old GeeksSponsors:CleanMyMac - clnmy.com/OLDGEEKS - Use code OLDGEEKS for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. This episode covers: • Cocoa Extract Cuts Heart Deaths A massive COSMOS trial found that older adults taking high flavanol cocoa extract daily saw a 27 percent reduction in cardiovascular deaths along with drops in inflammation markers like HSCRP. Women showed unique anti inflammatory cytokine shifts, pointing to a broader longevity effect. Dave explains why cocoa extract is becoming a foundational nutrient for vascular health rather than a dessert ingredient. Source: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/09/250926135957.htm • AI Stethoscope for Home Diagnostics Lapsi Health's Keikku 2.0 just became the first FDA cleared AI powered digital stethoscope for both clinicians and home users. It records heart and lung sounds, analyzes them instantly, and flags early warning signs before symptoms appear. Dave breaks down why tools like this move you from reactive to predictive medicine and why they belong in every quantified self toolkit. Liver, kidney, and heart deliver vitamin A, heme iron, B12, copper, and choline that modern diets often lack. Dave covers sourcing concerns, purity standards, and why this shift reflects a move from fear based nutrition to evolutionary nutrition. Source: https://www.verywellhealth.com/beef-organ-supplement-11710185?utm_source=chatgpt.com • Spirulina for Collagen and DNA Protection New research highlights spirulina's ability to support collagen production, reduce oxidative stress, protect DNA, and improve glucose and lipid balance. It is becoming a staple of eco focused anti aging routines and is driving the viral green stacking trend with chlorella and chlorophyll. Dave explains why spirulina functions as a clean daily defense against oxidative stress. Source: https://www.news-medical.net/news/20250707/Is-Spirulina-the-Next-Anti-Aging-Superfood.aspx • Health Data Privacy Reform A new Senate bill aims to extend HIPAA level protections to wearables, genomic tools, glucose monitors, and wellness apps. The goal is to give users control over who sees their biometrics, how they are stored, and whether they can be sold. Dave outlines why this matters for anyone using Oura, Whoop, CGMs, or genetic testing and why your biology should belong to you and not the cloud. Ever tell yourself, “I know I should show up online more…” and then somehow, the week slips away and you didn't? You're not alone. Showing up online doesn't have to feel overwhelming or depend on daily bursts of inspiration. You just need a simple system you can repeat week after week. In this Friday Fuel episode of The Launch Your Box Podcast, I'm walking you through the exact rhythm I use to stay consistent across live video, email, and social media, without overthinking it. You can steal it, tweak it, or make it your own. Step 1: Choose Your Weekly Anchor Consistency starts with one non-negotiable: a set day and time for your LIVE.For me, it's Thursday at 9 a.m. every single week. That's my anchor. It's on the calendar, it never moves, and it keeps me accountable. My audience knows when to expect me, and I always know when I'm showing up. If your plan is “I'll go LIVE sometime this week,” chances are you won't.Pick your day, pick your time, and treat it like an important appointment (because it is). Step 2: Turn One LIVE into Days of Content Right after your LIVE, before you clean up or move on, take a few quick photos of yourself with the products you featured. You're already camera-ready and the setup is done. Those images become instant marketing gold: Add one to a same-day recap email linking to the replay, Use another in a next-day email highlighting one or two featured products, Sprinkle the rest across your social media posts for the next few days. This rhythm means you're never starting from scratch. Step 3: Stretch It Over Three Days of Posts We repurpose that Thursday LIVE for three more days of content:Day 1: Product flat-lay or styled shotDay 2: Reel or clip from the LIVEDay 3: Lifestyle photo or testimonial that ties in Same message. Different formats. Maximum visibility. When you build this kind of routine, you'll never again wonder, “What should I post this week?”  Step 4: Why This System Works This weekly rhythm keeps you top of mind and builds trust. The LIVE keeps you visible. The emails deepen connection and drive sales. The posts give your audience multiple chances to see, comment, and buy. You're no longer chasing content. Instead, you're running a system. Take Action Start this week: Pick your LIVE day + time. Go LIVE. Send a recap email. Post follow-up content for three days. That's it. You'll be amazed how quickly consistency turns into momentum. Join me for this episode to discover how one weekly LIVE and two quick emails can create days of content, connection, and confidence. Hormonal Health is Vital: Balanced hormone levels play a crucial role in longevity and quality of life, particularly as we age. Innovative Medications: Certain medications, carefully selected and used, can support weight management and metabolic health, crucial elements in longevity. Impact of Toxins: Regular detoxification and maintaining mineral balance effectively counteract heavy metal toxicity, enhancing longevity prospects.

Your workouts may be doing less than you think, and science now proves why. This episode reveals how to build muscle, improve metabolism, and extend longevity in a fraction of the time using blood flow restriction training and intermittent hypoxia. You'll learn how to hack your mitochondria for faster recovery, stronger hormonal balance, and better brain performance without the burnout of high-intensity training. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey talks with Dr. Sten Stray-Gundersen, PhD, CSCS, one of the world's leading experts on blood flow restriction (BFR) training and metabolic physiology. With over a decade of research and teaching experience, Dr. Stray-Gundersen has explored how BFR and intermittent hypoxia can improve cardiovascular health, metabolism, and recovery. After earning his doctorate in Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas at Austin, he now serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina, where he studies vascular adaptations, cognitive performance, and ergogenic aids. He's also a B Strong master trainer, developing individualized BFR protocols for athletes, military professionals, and everyday people looking to optimize human performance. Together, Dave and Sten uncover how BFR and oxygen cycling unlock powerful adaptations in the body's vascular, metabolic, and hormonal systems. You'll learn how strategic stress signals can trigger nitric oxide production, enhance glucose uptake, improve insulin sensitivity, and supercharge mitochondria for better energy and anti-aging benefits. They also explore how these methods can naturally boost testosterone, growth hormone, and even libido, all while protecting the nervous system and improving recovery. This episode dives deep into biohacking, functional medicine, and smart exercise efficiency, from Zone 2 and REHIT training to nitric oxide signaling, fasting, nootropics, and precision supplementation. Whether your goal is longevity, strength, or sharper cognition, this conversation shows you how to get maximum results with minimal time using the principles of Smarter Not Harder. You'll Learn:• How intermittent hypoxia works at the level of partial pressure and why altitude acclimation upgrades mitochondria and performance• Why hypoxia and muscle contraction increase glucose uptake independent of insulin and improve insulin sensitivity• How blood flow restriction (BFR) accelerates fatigue with light loads to drive hypertrophy, strength, and vascular adaptations• How BFR and hypoxia influence testosterone, growth hormone, nitric oxide, and libido through short, targeted stress• The roles of ENOS, INOS, and NNOS in nitric oxide signaling and what that means for circulation and brain perfusion• Who benefits most from BFR, including athletes, rehab patients, and older adults who cannot lift heavy• Why BFR produces systemic and “proximal” gains, including carryover to glutes and upper body during lower limb training• How to stack BFR with Zone 2, REHIT, and vibration plates for VO2 max, muscle, and time efficiencyDave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade brings you the knowledge to take control of your biology, extend your longevity, and optimize every system in your body and mind. Each episode delivers cutting-edge insights in health, performance, neuroscience, supplements, nutrition, biohacking, emotional intelligence, and conscious living. New episodes are released every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday (BONUS). Dave asks the questions no one else will and gives you real tools to become stronger, smarter, and more resilient. Devon O'Neil is a journalist, author, and longtime friend of mine whose new book "The Way Out: A True Story of Survival in the Heart of the Rockies" is one of the best pieces of outdoor nonfiction I've read in years. The book tells the harrowing true story of a backcountry ski trip near Leadville, Colorado, that turned tragic—and the years-long process of understanding what really happened, and how a mountain town wrestled with loss, resilience, and the complicated relationship we all have with risk and wild places. It's gripping, deeply reported, and beautifully written—equal parts survival epic, community portrait, and meditation on how we find meaning in the aftermath of tragedy. Devon has spent more than two decades as a writer and reporter based in Summit County, Colorado, covering everything from adventure sports and avalanches to the cultural and emotional undercurrents of life in mountain towns. Before turning his attention to this book project, he worked in newspapers, wrote for Outside, Men's Journal, and ESPN.com, and somehow managed to balance all of that with being a hardcore athlete and a dedicated dad and husband. He's one of those rare writers whose empathy and endurance match the people that he writes about. In this conversation, Devon and I dig into the story behind "The Way Out"—how he first heard about the tragedy, earned the trust of a close-knit community, and spent years piecing together a complete and compassionate account. We talk about the ethical tightrope of telling other people's hardest stories, how his own brushes with danger shaped his perspective on risk, and what this project taught him about the fine line between adventure and recklessness. We also get into his childhood growing up on a sailboat in the Virgin Islands, his evolution as a journalist and athlete, and the hard-earned wisdom that comes from spending a lifetime chasing stories in the mountains. "The Way Out" is available now wherever you get your books, so follow the links in the episode notes to grab your copy. Big thanks to Devon for the chat, and thank you for listening. Ready to boost your energy and future-proof your health? In this episode, I'm joined by expert neuroscientist Dr. Siobhan Mitchell, who breaks down why your mitochondria—the tiny powerhouses inside your cells—are the secret to healthy aging.  She explains how the perimenopause and menopause transition is not just hormonal, but a neuroendocrine shift that impacts your brain, mood, energy, AND vitality.  And even if you're doing your best to bring on lifestyle recommendations for optimizing mitochondrial health, odds are you still need more support than just that in midlife. So, that's where the supplement MitoQ comes into play.  As MitoQ's Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Mitchell reveals how this advanced antioxidant works deep inside your cells to enhance mitochondrial function, boosting mental clarity and long-term longevity.  Tune in and discover how to fuel your energy, elevate your mood, and embrace midlife feeling stronger than ever! Dr. Siobhan Mitchell  Siobhan Mitchell is the chief scientific officer of MitoQ. She completed her PhD at SUNY Albany and a post-doctoral fellowship on brain aging at the University of Washington. Siobhan has held roles at the three largest food companies in the world (Unilever, Nestle, and Pepsico), leading trials worldwide, which researched the effects of nutrition on cognitive decline, mood, and performance. She was also senior director at Noom, where she directed a team investigating chronic disease management, weight loss, and mental health digital programs using cognitive behavior therapy methods. IN THIS EPISODE Why mitochondria are a key contributing factor to aging  Preventing menopause symptoms in relation to brain changes  Research on estrogen levels in menopause for longevity  Lifestyle changes for enhanced cognitive functioning  The impact stress has on your mitochondrial function  How to notice if your mitochondria aren't working well  How MitoQ supplementation boosts cell vitality and longevity  Ways to measure your mitochondrial function  QUOTES“You get these overactive mitochondria that are also producing energy and oxidative stress at much higher levels, and these oxidative stress mechanisms can also bring on faster aging through inflammation and things like that.” “[MitoQ] is basically helping protect your mitochondria from excessive oxidative stress. It gets into the mitochondria better than any other supplement on the market because it was especially engineered to have this tag that allows it to get into the mitochondria up to [about] 90%.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Order my new book: The Perimenopause Revolution https://drmariza.com/book Use code DRMARIZA and get 15% off your order of Silverbiotics https://silverbiotics.com/discount/drmariza Use code: ENERGIZED for 10% off your order of MitoQ HERE! http://mitoq.com MitoQ on Instagram Siobhan on X  RELATED EPISODES  #688: Unlock Cellular Energy and Longevity with Urolithin A + Mitochondrial Optimization with  Jen Scheinman  #653: Mitochondria, Menopause & Metabolism: The Cellular Secret to More Energy After 40 with Dr. Felice Gersh #663: From Wired and Tired to Calm and Energized: The GABA-Mitochondria Connection + How to Fix It at the Cellular Level with Dr. Scott Sherr #623: Red Light Therapy for Upgrading Your Mitochondria, Cellular Energy, Skin and Brain Health with Jonathan Otto #690: The Perimenopause Revolution: Why midlife isn't the end — it's the beginning of your most energized, powerful, and vibrant self
