Creatine is a hot subject right now, but I'm guessing you might not know as much about it as you could. Well step into a new creatine masterclass with our friends from Qualia. This episode shows you why it is not just for muscle, but one of the most powerful and well studied upgrades for brain energy, metabolism, sleep resilience, and long term human performance. You will learn how creatine supports mitochondria, buffers ATP, reduces cravings, and helps you think, train, and recover with more energy instead of relying on willpower. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Greg Kelly for a deep, practical masterclass on creatine and energy biology. Greg Kelly is a naturopathic physician, functional medicine expert, and longtime researcher in supplements and nootropics. He has spent decades studying creatine, mitochondrial function, cognition, and performance, and has contributed to peer reviewed research while working directly with athletes, clinicians, and high performers. Together, Dave and Greg break down how creatine works at the cellular level, why it matters for cognition, emotional regulation, and metabolism, and how it supports the brain and body during stress, sleep deprivation, dieting, and recovery. They explore neuroplasticity, ATP production, magnesium, methylation, and why energy availability drives discipline, focus, and resilience more effectively than willpower alone. They also explain why creatine matters for women, aging adults, and people dealing with fatigue or obesity, and how creatine supports brain function even when muscle mass is low. This conversation connects bodybuilding research with modern longevity science, nootropics, functional medicine, and sleep optimization. Dave and Greg also expose why creatine quality matters, how contaminants can impair mitochondrial function, why some products fail label claims, and how to choose forms that absorb better and cause less bloating. Practical strategies like dosing, timing, stacking with magnesium, and using creatine with hot coffee are all covered, including why Dave uses it with Danger Coffee as part of his Smarter Not Harder approach. You'll Learn: • Why creatine acts as an ATP buffer for both muscles and the brain • How mitochondria drive cognition, metabolism, and emotional regulation • The real dosing debate from low daily maintenance to higher cognitive doses • Why women often need more creatine than men • How creatine supports performance during sleep deprivation and sleep debt • The link between magnesium, creatine phosphate, and ATP production • How methylation and TMG relate to creatine synthesis and timing • Why creatine can reduce cravings by improving cellular energy • How low quality creatine and contaminants can damage mitochondrial function • When creatine matters most for longevity, resilience, and human performance Dave Asprey is a four time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade is the top podcast for people who want to take control of their biology, extend their longevity, and optimize every system in the body and mind. In this episode of The Observatory Podcast, hosts Scott and LaRae Wright sit down with Bobby Ahlander for an expansive and deeply human conversation about suffering, healing, and what it means to truly come home to yourself. Bobby shares his journey growing up in a rigid religious environment marked by instability and fear, living much of his adult life on “autopilot,” and eventually reaching a breaking point that included leaving the Church, divorce, job loss, and a prolonged season of depression with suicidal ideation.Through therapy, psychiatry, EMDR, Buddhist study, and eventually plant medicine, Bobby describes the slow and nonlinear rebuilding of his inner world. He introduces a personal “numbers” framework that helped him track emotional states — from survival, to “fine,” to happiness, joy, bliss, and ultimately a state he later names cosmic union. At the heart of this conversation is the embodied realization that arrived not through force or fixing, but through surrender: peace feels good.Timestamps [01:10] Introducing Bobby Ahlander and the theme “peace feels good”[04:05] Childhood in a conservative religious home marked by instability[08:45] Learning invisibility, safety, and survival as a child[14:55] Living adulthood on “autopilot” and inherited identity scripts[20:15] Becoming a bishop and the weight of enforcing institutional rules[25:35] LGBTQ+ policy conflict and values colliding with authority[31:50] Leaving the Church, divorce, and relocation all at once[36:40] Wiping the slate clean and questioning every belief[41:05] First acts of autonomy and reclaiming personal choice[46:00] Discovering Buddhism and non-dual thinking[51:40] First psilocybin experience and expanded awareness[58:45] COVID, job loss, unhealthy relationship, and emotional collapse[01:05:40] Suicidal ideation and surviving for his children[01:12:30] Therapy, medication, and the “numbers” emotional scale[01:20:10] Ayahuasca: opening a door that never closes[01:27:30] Integration, healing, and learning to live at “fine”[01:33:40] Oregon coast turning point and happiness returning[01:38:10] Discovering joy, bliss, and something beyond the scale[01:41:00] Embodied peace, “peace feels good,” and what comes next[01:41:58] Closing message and listener invitationNotable Quotes“You have just opened a door that can never close again.” — Scott Webb (quoted by Bobby Ahlander) [00:36:08]“I don't want to die, but I don't want to be alive.” — Bobby Ahlander [00:31:58]“The whole choice to awake puts you on a path.” — Scott Wright [01:13:33]“So we honor you for being there and being able to express that.” — LaRae Wright [01:29:42]“The cost of the new is the old.” — Scott Wright [01:32:36]“Turbulence is just a reminder you're flying.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:34:42]“You will continue to suffer until you've learned the lesson that the suffering is trying to teach you.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:38:18]“This is peace.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:23:57]“Peace feels good.” — Bobby Ahlander [01:25:01]Relevant LinksBobby's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bobbyahlander/Subscribe to the podcast: Apple Podcasts

Robb experienced extreme fatigue, weakness, and dangerous bleeding episodes due to his condition, which required him to take up to 16 different medications daily including high-dose steroids and undergo multiple blood transfusions.Medical treatments included experimental procedures and a splenectomy, but doctors eventually told Robb his options were running out and suggested either an expensive experimental drug costing $600 per week or radiation therapy.A young man from Robb's church suggested medical cannabis as a treatment option, which initially angered Robb who questioned how marijuana could help when scientists and doctors couldn't determine what was wrong with him.Research into cannabis led Robb to discover Rick Simpson's story, Dr. Rafael's work from Israel, and most importantly US Patent 6630507B1 which lists cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants for autoimmune diseases. After the splenectomy failed to improve his condition, Robb obtained his medical cannabis certification in Michigan in 2008 and purchased his first gram of Rick Simpson oil for $80 from a compassion club.Initial dosing began with tiny amounts using a toothpick to extract small portions of the oil throughout the day, as Robb considered himself a lightweight when it came to THC effects.Lifestyle changes accompanied the cannabis treatment including adopting an organic diet, eliminating processed foods, and studying the immune system to understand how nutrition affects overall health.Within one week of starting cannabis oil treatment and detoxing from prescription medications, Robb returned to work after being unable to work for over a year and a half.Robb became a licensed caregiver in Michigan, growing cannabis for five patients and eventually operating a 24/7 drive-through dispensary in 2016 with an on-site MD for patient certifications.Partnership with Dr. Calasperius beginning in 2020 created a comprehensive treatment approach combining traditional medical examinations with customized cannabis formulations based on patient needs and tolerance levels.Success story involved treating a six-month-old baby named Anastasia who was experiencing 100 seizures daily, using only CBD, CBG, and CBN without THC to eliminate her need for toxic narcotics.Frustration remains with public misconceptions about cannabis despite extensive patent evidence and 17 years of safe processing and provision in Michigan without any lawsuits or liability cases.Educational efforts continue to promote cannabis in all forms including hemp hearts for nutrition, emphasizing that the plant can provide food, housing, clothing, energy, and medicine while encouraging people to think independently about their health.Current operations focus on community wellness through the website communitywellness.life, offering various cannabis products including infused honey from a third-generation wildflower honey farm. On Jesse's 12th "Ask Me Anything" episode, he opens the year by tackling the questions that tend to surface when calendars turn and retirement feels closer than ever. He begins with a thoughtful exploration of whether "this is the year to retire," unpacking how sequence-of-returns risk, market valuations, spending accuracy, and portfolio construction matter far more than trying to guess the next market move, and why building flexibility—not perfect timing—is the real defense against early-retirement risk. From there, Jesse shifts to a practical and surprisingly nuanced discussion on getting kids and grandkids started in investing, weighing Roth IRAs, custodial accounts, and taxable strategies while emphasizing the twin lessons of earned money and compounding—and how to balance long-term discipline with making investing engaging and educational. He then addresses how portfolios should evolve as investors age and as assets grow, explaining why the glide path toward retirement is as much about risk capacity, risk need, and behavioral fit as it is about age, and why excess capital fundamentally changes how—and why—you take risk. He closes with a comprehensive walk through the key ages and milestones that shape a financial plan, from early adulthood to Social Security, Medicare, and required minimum distributions, giving listeners a clear mental map of when critical doors open and close. Throughout, Jesse blends technical insight with behavioral clarity, helping listeners not just answer financial questions, but build a durable way of thinking about decisions that will compound for decades. Key Takeaways:• The decision to retire is less about predicting markets and more about understanding cash flow, spending flexibility, and downside protection in the early years. • Writing down the rationale behind major investment decisions helps reduce future regret and emotional reactions. • Many retirees underestimate their spending, which can create false confidence in retirement readiness. • Teaching kids about investing works best when it combines earned income, parental matching, and simple, long-term strategies. • Excess capital changes the nature of investment decisions, allowing greater freedom without jeopardizing core goals. • Knowing the key financial ages—Social Security, Medicare, Roth rules, and required minimum distributions—helps investors anticipate decisions rather than react under pressure. You're about to hear one of the most honest longevity conversations ever recorded. This co hosted episode brings together two longevity leaders with opposing views on how long humans can live, yet enormous respect for each other and the science. Recorded live at Eudemonia, this discussion gives you clear frameworks for longevity, biohacking, human performance, and anti aging without all the tribal thinking that can plague modern health conversations! Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Dan Buettner for a rare co hosted podcast that explores where biohacking and Blue Zones philosophy clash and where they surprisingly align. Dan Buettner is a National Geographic Explorer, Emmy Award winning producer, and five time New York Times bestselling author. He is best known for identifying the Blue Zones, regions of the world where people live the longest and healthiest lives. His research has reshaped cities, healthcare systems, and insurance models across the United States, improving health outcomes for more than 10 million Americans. His Netflix series Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones earned six Emmy nominations and won three. Dan is also an accomplished endurance athlete with three Guinness World Records in distance cycling. Together, Dave and Dan debate the true limits of human lifespan, whether longevity is driven more by environment or intervention, and how modern tools like AI, functional medicine, supplements, fasting, ketosis, and sleep optimization compare to walkable communities, movement, and purpose. They explore mitochondria, neuroplasticity, metabolism, brain optimization, and why Smarter Not Harder applies whether you follow a carnivore leaning diet, a bean based diet, or something in between. This episode gives you both sides of the longevity argument and lets you decide what fits your biology, values, and goals. You'll Learn: • Why Dan believes average human lifespan likely tops out in the mid 90s and how Blue Zones support longevity without chronic disease • Why Host Dave Asprey believes biohacking, AI, and modern science could push longevity toward 150, 180, or beyond • How environmental design hacks unconscious behavior more effectively than willpower • The overlooked role of light, darkness, and circadian rhythm in sleep optimization and human performance • How fasting and ketosis support longevity when used strategically instead of obsessively • Why mitochondria signaling may matter more than fixing every cell individually • How neuroplasticity and brain optimization influence aging and resilience • Where supplements and nootropics help and where simplicity wins • The real debate around carnivore diets, carbs, beans, metabolism, and longevity • Why community, purpose, and movement remain foundational even in advanced biohacking • How Danger Coffee fits into energy, focus, and Smarter Not Harder performance strategies Dave Asprey is a four time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade is the top podcast for people who want to take control of their biology, extend their longevity, and optimize every system in the body and mind. In this transformative New Year episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling completely reframe the traditional resolution approach by presenting 2026 as your "forever lifestyle project" rather than another short-lived goal that fails by February. They expose why 80% of resolutions collapse within weeks—outcome-focused goals without systematic daily processes or identity shifts—and provide a comprehensive framework for sustainable change built on behavioral habits instead of scale obsession. The hosts walk through replacing all-or-nothing perfectionism with "always something" mindset, establishing foundational fasting rhythms (16:8 minimum), and tracking behavior-anchored metrics like waist circumference and daily fasting streaks rather than chasing weight fluctuations. They deliver tactical strategies for navigating social resistance with phrases like "I promised myself I'd stick to my plan," building environments that make healthy choices effortless, and pre-deciding maintenance mode rules for inevitable chaotic weeks. This episode provides the complete roadmap for starting 2026 by systematizing daily actions, adopting the identity of someone who fasts and moves with intention, and creating 30-60-90 day reality checks that transform annual fantasies into achieved results by visualizing who you'll be in December 2026. PulmPEEPs

This week’s Pulm PEEPs Pearls episode is a focused discussion between Furf and Monty about non-pharmacologic techniques for airway clearance in the non-Cystic Fibrosis bronchiectasis population. This is a focused, high-yield discussion of the key points about airway clearance, including practical tips and a discussion of the evidence. This episode was prepared in conjunction with George Doumat MD. Goerge is an internal medicine resident at UT Southwestern and joined us for a Pulm PEEPs – BMJ Thorax journal club episode. He is now acting as a Pulm PEEPs Editor for the Pulm PEEPs Pearls series. Key Learning Points 1) Why airway clearance matters in non-CF bronchiectasis Non-CF bronchiectasis is defined by irreversible bronchial dilation with impaired mucociliary clearance, leading to mucus retention. Retained sputum drives the classic vicious cycle: mucus → infection → neutrophilic inflammation → airway damage → worse clearance. Airway clearance techniques (ACTs) are meant to interrupt this cycle, primarily by improving mucus mobilization and symptom control. 2) What ACTs are trying to achieve clinically Main benefits are: More effective sputum clearance Reduced cough/dyspnea burden Improved activity tolerance and quality of life Effects on spirometry are usually small. Exacerbation reduction is possible, but evidence is mixed—some longer-term data suggest benefit for specific techniques. 3) The main ACT “families” and when to use them Breathing-based techniques (device-free, flexible) ACBT (Active Cycle of Breathing Technique): breath control → deep breaths with holds → huffing. Pros: portable, adaptable, good first-line option. Key requirement: teaching/coaching to get technique right. Autogenic drainage: controlled breathing at different lung volumes to move mucus from peripheral → central airways. Pros: no device, can work well once learned. Cons: more technically demanding, needs training and practice. PEP / Oscillatory PEP (stents airways + “vibrates” mucus loose) PEP: back-pressure helps prevent small airway collapse during exhalation; often paired with huff/cough. Oscillatory PEP (Flutter/Acapella/Aerobika): adds oscillation that many patients find easy and satisfying to use. Good fit for: people who benefit from airway stenting, want something portable, and prefer a device. Mechanical/manual techniques (help when patient can't self-clear well) HFCWO (“the vest”): external chest wall oscillation; helpful for high sputum volumes, dexterity limits, or difficulty coordinating breathing maneuvers. Postural drainage/percussion/vibration: caregiver/therapist-assisted options; still useful but consider: GERD/reflux risk with certain positions Hemoptysis risk with vigorous techniques 4) How to choose the “right” technique (the practical framework) There is no one-size-fits-all. Match the tool to the patient: Sputum burden (volume/viscosity) Strength, coordination, cognition, dexterity Comorbidities (GERD, hemoptysis history, severe obstruction/airway collapse) Lifestyle + portability (what they'll actually do) Cost/access and availability of respiratory therapy/physio support A key mindset from the script: this is not a lifetime contract—reassess and adjust over time with shared decision-making. 5) Evidence takeaways (what improves, what doesn't) ACTs reliably improve sputum expectoration and often symptoms/QoL. QoL/cough scores (e.g., SGRQ, LCQ) tend to improve modestly, particularly with oscillatory PEP and some vest studies. Lung function: typically minimal change; occasional short-term FEV₁ benefit is reported in some vest trials. Exacerbations: mixed overall; the script highlights a longer-term RCT of ELTGOL showing fewer exacerbations at 12 months vs placebo exercises. Safety: generally excellent; main cautions are hemoptysis and reflux (depending on technique/positioning). 6) Special population pearls Hemoptysis / fragile airways: start with gentle breathing-based ACTs (ACBT, controlled huffing); avoid overly vigorous oscillatory/manual methods if concerned. Severe obstruction or early airway collapse: PEP/oscillatory PEP can help by keeping small airways open on exhalation. Mobility/coordination barriers: consider HFCWO vest or simple oscillatory PEP devices to enable daily adherence. During exacerbations: keep it simple—1–2 reliable techniques, prioritize daily consistency, and re-check technique. 7) The “real” bottom line Start with simple, self-manageable options (often ACBT ± PEP). The “best” ACT is the one the patient will do consistently. Reassess technique and fit over time; education and demonstration are part of the therapy. They discuss the difference between body awareness and body trust and how historical and cultural medical narratives shape the way women interpret symptoms. The conversation also challenges the idea that health must always be pursued at the level of optimisation, introducing the concept of being “healthy enough”—not as a lowering of standards, but as a way of letting health support life rather than dominate it.This episode will resonate with anyone who has felt exhausted by the constant focus on hormones, symptoms, and self-improvement, and is looking for a more grounded, humane way to think about women's health.Lara Briden is a naturopathic doctor and bestselling author of the books Period Repair Manual and Hormone Repair Manual — practical guides to treating period problems with nutrition, supplements, and bioidentical hormones. With a strong science background, Lara sits on several advisory boards and is the lead author of a 2020 paper published in a peer-reviewed medical journal. She has more than 20 years' experience in women's health and currently has consulting rooms in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she treats women with PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, perimenopause, and many other hormone- and period-related health problems.Reach Lara at www.larabriden.com, IG: https://www.instagram.com/larabriden/Lara's books  https://larabriden.com/lara-briden-books/Lara's previous appearance on Mikkipedia https://podcast.mikkiwilliden.com/33  and https://podcast.mikkiwilliden.com/248 and https://podcast.mikkiwilliden.com/264  Contact Mikki:https://mikkiwilliden.com/https://www.facebook.com/mikkiwillidennutritionhttps://www.instagram.com/mikkiwilliden/https://linktr.ee/mikkiwilliden

In this episode, host Tricia Friedman sits down with Dr. Michael Greger, bestselling author and founder of NutritionFacts.org, to explore why non-commercial, evidence-based health guidance matters more than ever. They discuss lifestyle medicine, plant-based nutrition, scientific integrity, cannabis research, and how small, testable behavior changes can dramatically improve long-term health. What This Conversation Is Really About Health advice is everywhere — but trustworthy guidance is not. This conversation slows things down and examines how to make informed choices in a noisy, commercialized health landscape, without absolutism, hype, or fear-based messaging. Dr. Greger shares: Why he donates 100% of book proceeds to charity How lifestyle medicine transformed his own family's health What the science actually says about cannabis — both risks and benefits Why updating guidance as evidence evolves is a strength, not a weakness How social support, not willpower, determines whether health changes last Key Topics Covered Why non-commercial health information matters How financial incentives distort nutrition and medical guidance — and how to recognize bias. Lifestyle medicine in practice Diet, movement, and daily habits as powerful tools for disease prevention and reversal. Plant-based eating (defined clearly) What "plant-based" actually means — and what it doesn't. Cannabis: separating evidence from ideology What newer human studies reveal about cancer risk, pain management, and safer use. Scientific uncertainty and misinformation How peer-reviewed research works, where it fails, and how to interpret studies responsibly. Behavior change that sticks Why short-term "experiments," bodily feedback, and social support outperform rigid rules.
