Your workouts may be doing less than you think, and science now proves why. This episode reveals how to build muscle, improve metabolism, and extend longevity in a fraction of the time using blood flow restriction training and intermittent hypoxia. You'll learn how to hack your mitochondria for faster recovery, stronger hormonal balance, and better brain performance without the burnout of high-intensity training. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey talks with Dr. Sten Stray-Gundersen, PhD, CSCS, one of the world's leading experts on blood flow restriction (BFR) training and metabolic physiology. With over a decade of research and teaching experience, Dr. Stray-Gundersen has explored how BFR and intermittent hypoxia can improve cardiovascular health, metabolism, and recovery. After earning his doctorate in Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas at Austin, he now serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina, where he studies vascular adaptations, cognitive performance, and ergogenic aids. He's also a B Strong master trainer, developing individualized BFR protocols for athletes, military professionals, and everyday people looking to optimize human performance. Together, Dave and Sten uncover how BFR and oxygen cycling unlock powerful adaptations in the body's vascular, metabolic, and hormonal systems. You'll learn how strategic stress signals can trigger nitric oxide production, enhance glucose uptake, improve insulin sensitivity, and supercharge mitochondria for better energy and anti-aging benefits. They also explore how these methods can naturally boost testosterone, growth hormone, and even libido, all while protecting the nervous system and improving recovery. This episode dives deep into biohacking, functional medicine, and smart exercise efficiency, from Zone 2 and REHIT training to nitric oxide signaling, fasting, nootropics, and precision supplementation. Whether your goal is longevity, strength, or sharper cognition, this conversation shows you how to get maximum results with minimal time using the principles of Smarter Not Harder. You'll Learn:• How intermittent hypoxia works at the level of partial pressure and why altitude acclimation upgrades mitochondria and performance• Why hypoxia and muscle contraction increase glucose uptake independent of insulin and improve insulin sensitivity• How blood flow restriction (BFR) accelerates fatigue with light loads to drive hypertrophy, strength, and vascular adaptations• How BFR and hypoxia influence testosterone, growth hormone, nitric oxide, and libido through short, targeted stress• The roles of ENOS, INOS, and NNOS in nitric oxide signaling and what that means for circulation and brain perfusion• Who benefits most from BFR, including athletes, rehab patients, and older adults who cannot lift heavy• Why BFR produces systemic and “proximal” gains, including carryover to glutes and upper body during lower limb training• How to stack BFR with Zone 2, REHIT, and vibration plates for VO2 max, muscle, and time efficiencyDave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade brings you the knowledge to take control of your biology, extend your longevity, and optimize every system in your body and mind. Each episode delivers cutting-edge insights in health, performance, neuroscience, supplements, nutrition, biohacking, emotional intelligence, and conscious living. Devon O'Neil — On Nature's Power and the Price of Adventure

    Mountain & Prairie Podcast

Devon O'Neil is a journalist, author, and longtime friend of mine whose new book "The Way Out: A True Story of Survival in the Heart of the Rockies" is one of the best pieces of outdoor nonfiction I've read in years. The book tells the harrowing true story of a backcountry ski trip near Leadville, Colorado, that turned tragic—and the years-long process of understanding what really happened, and how a mountain town wrestled with loss, resilience, and the complicated relationship we all have with risk and wild places. It's gripping, deeply reported, and beautifully written—equal parts survival epic, community portrait, and meditation on how we find meaning in the aftermath of tragedy. Devon has spent more than two decades as a writer and reporter based in Summit County, Colorado, covering everything from adventure sports and avalanches to the cultural and emotional undercurrents of life in mountain towns. Before turning his attention to this book project, he worked in newspapers, wrote for Outside, Men's Journal, and ESPN.com, and somehow managed to balance all of that with being a hardcore athlete and a dedicated dad and husband. He's one of those rare writers whose empathy and endurance match the people that he writes about. In this conversation, Devon and I dig into the story behind "The Way Out"—how he first heard about the tragedy, earned the trust of a close-knit community, and spent years piecing together a complete and compassionate account. We talk about the ethical tightrope of telling other people's hardest stories, how his own brushes with danger shaped his perspective on risk, and what this project taught him about the fine line between adventure and recklessness. Ready to boost your energy and future-proof your health? In this episode, I'm joined by expert neuroscientist Dr. Siobhan Mitchell, who breaks down why your mitochondria—the tiny powerhouses inside your cells—are the secret to healthy aging.  She explains how the perimenopause and menopause transition is not just hormonal, but a neuroendocrine shift that impacts your brain, mood, energy, AND vitality.  And even if you're doing your best to bring on lifestyle recommendations for optimizing mitochondrial health, odds are you still need more support than just that in midlife. So, that's where the supplement MitoQ comes into play.  As MitoQ's Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Mitchell reveals how this advanced antioxidant works deep inside your cells to enhance mitochondrial function, boosting mental clarity and long-term longevity.  Tune in and discover how to fuel your energy, elevate your mood, and embrace midlife feeling stronger than ever! Dr. Siobhan Mitchell  Siobhan Mitchell is the chief scientific officer of MitoQ. She completed her PhD at SUNY Albany and a post-doctoral fellowship on brain aging at the University of Washington. Siobhan has held roles at the three largest food companies in the world (Unilever, Nestle, and Pepsico), leading trials worldwide, which researched the effects of nutrition on cognitive decline, mood, and performance. She was also senior director at Noom, where she directed a team investigating chronic disease management, weight loss, and mental health digital programs using cognitive behavior therapy methods. IN THIS EPISODE Why mitochondria are a key contributing factor to aging  Preventing menopause symptoms in relation to brain changes  Research on estrogen levels in menopause for longevity  Lifestyle changes for enhanced cognitive functioning  The impact stress has on your mitochondrial function  How to notice if your mitochondria aren't working well  How MitoQ supplementation boosts cell vitality and longevity  Ways to measure your mitochondrial function  QUOTES“You get these overactive mitochondria that are also producing energy and oxidative stress at much higher levels, and these oxidative stress mechanisms can also bring on faster aging through inflammation and things like that.” “[MitoQ] is basically helping protect your mitochondria from excessive oxidative stress. It gets into the mitochondria better than any other supplement on the market because it was especially engineered to have this tag that allows it to get into the mitochondria up to [about] 90%.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Order my new book: The Perimenopause Revolution https://drmariza.com/book Use code DRMARIZA and get 15% off your order of Silverbiotics https://silverbiotics.com/discount/drmariza Use code: ENERGIZED for 10% off your order of MitoQ HERE! http://mitoq.com MitoQ on Instagram Siobhan on X  RELATED EPISODES  #688: Unlock Cellular Energy and Longevity with Urolithin A + Mitochondrial Optimization with  Jen Scheinman  #653: Mitochondria, Menopause & Metabolism: The Cellular Secret to More Energy After 40 with Dr. Felice Gersh #663: From Wired and Tired to Calm and Energized: The GABA-Mitochondria Connection + How to Fix It at the Cellular Level with Dr. Scott Sherr #623: Red Light Therapy for Upgrading Your Mitochondria, Cellular Energy, Skin and Brain Health with Jonathan Otto #690: The Perimenopause Revolution: Why midlife isn't the end — it's the beginning of your most energized, powerful, and vibrant self

From battling addiction and personal loss to building a thriving ghostwriting agency, his story is one of radical transformation. In this episode of Just Keep Learning, Clifton opens up about his darkest chapters, and how he used writing, therapy, and entrepreneurship to rewrite his life.We explore how he went from surviving trauma to helping others share their stories, and what it truly means to move from inspiration to execution.Writing As A LifelineClifton first found healing through journaling raw, unfiltered pages that helped him make sense of the chaos. Over time, writing became more than just self-expression. It became a service. He started helping others put their stories into words, and soon realized he had a gift not just for writing, but for understanding people. This evolved into a full-time ghostwriting business that empowers entrepreneurs to use storytelling as both strategy and therapy.Ghostwriting, Branding, and Agency BuildingToday, Clifton runs a successful ghostwriting agency, helping thought leaders turn their ideas into books, speeches, and brand-defining narratives. But it didn't start with a polished business plan. It started with asking one question: How can I serve with what I've been through? We break down how Clifton built his agency step by step, from DM outreach and landing his first clients, to scaling with systems and team building. He shares the real behind-the-scenes of what it takes to turn a personal skill into a sustainable business.Mental Health, Masculinity, and MeaningThis episode goes far beyond content strategy. Clifton speaks candidly about addiction, grief, fatherhood, and the pressure men face to "have it all together." We discuss the importance of therapy, the healing power of honest conversations, and why vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness. His story reminds us that the path to success isn't linear and that our greatest pain can become our greatest platform.Lessons For Aspiring CreatorsAuthenticity always beats polishYour story matters, no matter how messy it isDon't wait until it's perfect. If you've ever felt off, sluggish, or just "not yourself," this episode could be the wake-up call you didn't know you needed.     EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS [0:00] – Introduction [2:11] – Why testosterone levels are dropping in younger men [3:38] – The impact of stress and modern lifestyle on men's hormones [6:52] – What every guy should know about fertility and sperm health [9:26] – The myth of "you're too young to have hormone issues" [11:33] – Why alcohol may be hurting your testosterone more than you think [13:05] – The truth about TRT: who should and should not consider it [16:10] – Lifestyle first: how diet, exercise, and sleep influence hormones [18:22] – The impact of porn and digital overstimulation on sexual function [21:04] – What you need to know about vasectomies and reversals [23:44] – The mental health component of hormone imbalance [25:31] – Final advice from Dr. Houman: take control of your health early     5 KEY TAKEAWAYS Hormone Imbalance Isn't Just for Older Men: Men in their 20s and 30s are now experiencing low testosterone and fertility issues due to stress, poor sleep, and environmental toxins. TRT Isn't a Shortcut—It's a Tool: Testosterone Replacement Therapy can be life-changing for the right candidates, but it's not a cure-all. Lifestyle must come first. Small Choices Equal Big Outcomes: Daily habits like reducing alcohol, managing stress, and improving sleep can significantly improve testosterone and overall vitality. Digital Overstimulation Is Rewiring Sexual Health: Excessive porn use and screen time are contributing to erectile dysfunction and lowered libido in men of all ages. Proactive Health Wins the Long Game: Don't wait until something breaks—taking action now protects your ability to lead, love, and show up strong for your family.     LINKS & RESOURCES   Learn more about Dr. Justin Houman: https://houmanmd.com/ 25 Questions to Spark Connection: https://thedadedge.com/25questions More podcast episodes and resources: https://thedadedge.com/podcast Episode Shownotes: thedadedge.com/1399     If this episode opened your eyes, don't keep it to yourself. What good is financial sovereignty if your body is still in custodial care? Mike Peterson sits down with Christopher Wedick to map out the Reclaiming Health and Longevity Symposium in San Salvador, a two-day meet-up where decentralized health meets decentralized wealth. They talk health sovereignty, community healing, and why El Salvador's mix of safety, affordability, and sunlight makes it a real base for people who want financial self-custody and practical lifestyle medicine. This is the week where Bitcoin pragmatists and wellness builders compare notes in the same room.Christopher shares why he left Canada for El Salvador, how value-aligned community changes daily life, and what “reclaiming health” looks like without pharma as the default. The conversation covers natural remedies, sun and diet basics, and tech like Neurovisor light therapy. It is a clear path for visitors coming for @adoptingbitcoin 2025 and Bitcoin Histórico, who also want low-cost protocols, credible speakers, and a welcoming scene at Salamanca. You will hear why speakers like Dr. Peter McCullough (@petermcculloughmd ) and Dr. William Makis (@MakiswMD ) wanted to join the conversation, how voices around Dr. Jack Kruse and his community are educating the health industry in El Salvador. You will hear how the event works, who is speaking, and what follows, including the Elevating Consciousness Experience and the Bitcoin Well Mastermind. If you have been asking where holistic health and Bitcoin adoption overlap in a real place with real people, this episode gives you the playbook. Get your tickets at
