I check in with my old pal Adolf Hitler, the one from the dimension where Hitler is nice, not our Hitler. He takes me on a tour through his home for wayward individuals. The operation is now based out of the old Atlantis Casino in Reno and has milkshakes made by our old friend Mr. Mcgillicuddy, there's poetry from Bartholomew Stranglethorpe, Mr. Robert sort of runs security for the mayor, Kurt Ramflower, there's entertainment by Gordon Lightvoice, and even a bit of religious service from our friend Dick Aiken. This episode really does have a little something for everyone! Thank you all for a great year in Post-Nuclear Reno, I can't wait to see how many more years we can survive out in the wastes!
Baseball is officially back! Spring training is now in full swing, though we still have another week or so to wait until games begin. This is bad news for our poor beat writers, who are doing their best to churn out content, but good news for The Voice of the Turtle. That is, if you don't mind off-topic discussions about certain risqué Google searches. In this week's show, we take a look at the early storylines of the spring, including Francisco Rodriguez's visa issues and Steven Moya's productive winter. They also sympathize with the beat writers (minus the weather), and break down the Detroit Tigers' latest signings. Listener questions take an odd turn this week, and the lightning round returns! Finally, Rob and HookSlide speak with Steve Mikkelson, oddsmaker for Atlantis Casino in Reno, Nevada, about what goes into a team's preseason World Series odds. Topics in this week's episode include: Spring training is here! Last weekend Gary and I were in the slightly surreal space station environment of the Atlantis Casino in Reno, Nevada for the World Science Fiction Convention, where we recorded upcoming podcasts with Ian McDonald, Alastair Reynolds, Kim Stanley Robinson, and Jo Walton. This weekend we're home and discuss the con (briefly), vow to avoid discussing awards too much, look at the work of Caitlin R. Kiernan and discuss the use of language in SF. As always, we hope you enjoy the podcast.
