So for our first show of Year 2, we have back Aaron Gulyus and Mike Clelland. We will be discuss various facets of the UFO Phenomenon, and this conversation gets pretty deep into the subtlety of the phenomenon. A teacher, historian, and writer (generally in that order), Gulyas received his BA in History from Hanover College in 1998 and promptly went to work for the state of Indiana assessing disability insurance claims. Wearing out his welcome in the civil service within a year or so, he shifted to the thrilling world of proofreading. Realizing he was only really good at history, he returned to school and was awarded an MA in United States History from Indiana University-Indianapolis in 2003. He then moved into teaching, eventually landing at Mott Community College, where he has taught since 2006. Mike, in his own words... "I was born in 1962 in the suburbs of Detroit. Even during my pre-kindergarten years I was a skilled illustrator, and most of what I would draw was goofy and cartoony. Curiously, the stuff I would draw in elementary school looks a lot like my drawing style now. I was deeply influenced by MAD magazine, and that is still evident in my work today. I need to thank Mort Drucker, Sergio Aregones and Jack Davis for shaping my style. I also need to thank R. Crumb, who I discovered a little bit later in life. In 1981 I moved to New York City, where I went to NYU Film School for one year. I was all too aware that I was a lousy student, and I dropped out and began working as a free-lance illustrator and art director for advertising agencies. In the winter of 1986/87 I spent the season as a ski bum in Jackson Hole Wyoming. This experience would make it very difficult to fully embrace my urban career when I returned to New York. I eventually moved out west permanently in 1991, and this move paralleled the advent of the fax machine and Federal Express. These revolutionary tools allowed me to do illustration work anywhere I wanted, and I was still dealing with clients back in The City. All of this became much easier with the internet. Once out west I began doing book illustrations and teaching for an outdoor school. It was around 2005 or so when I felt a sort of oppressive need to look into some odd life events, stories and memories that I had denied had any importance. Little by little I realized that I simply could no longer ignore those memories and their implications. The catalyzing event was a profoundly strange synchronicity involving a bottle of sunblock. From that point on, it felt like the floodgates were opened up. Let me also add that the initial years of my self exploration have not been easy. The act of trying to peer into my own unknown life events has been enormously challenging. I became a shaky recluse, locked in a spiraling tape loop of insecurity and self-doubt. Presently, things have been a little less difficult, but it's by no means easy. The act of digging like this is no simple undertaking, it's been hard work. The truth for me is that I simply have to go down this road, no matter what the consequences. It seems I am being pulled ever forward by some unknown force. This might be my own higher self, or it might be something interacting with me from outside my being, I truly don't know. After fifteen years of performing and recording together, in 2021, the Atlantis Quartet began a hiatus. Late in the Covid pandemic, it was a period of reflection for the group. The group eventually reformed, and one of the results is the group's new CD, Live at Berlin, the Minneapolis Jazz club. We are joined by author and researcher Patrick Chouinard, who discusses his work on the Lost Giants of Atlantis. Let's get this out of the way: he doesn't believe in a physical place named Atlantis. He uses the common word as a placeholder for an advanced civilization lost to history. He also uses the word Aryan, but not in the corrupted way that's become the common use. Rather, the ancient use which simply traces the Iranic peoples from Asia, throughout Eurasia, the Near East, and beyond and very clearly the full spectrum of skin colors.Patrick's book has an excellent summary of many myths and lore from around the world dealing with giants and persons of great impact (not necessarily of enormous height).This is a nice companion to the prior episode which dealth primarily with the archeology. This episode deals primarily with the lore around beings. 

In January 1959, ten experienced young skiers set out for Mount Otorten in the far north of Russia. While one of the skiers fell ill and returned, the remaining nine lost their way and ended up on another mountain slope known as Kholat Syakhl (or 'Mountain of the Dead').On the night of 1st February 1959 something or someone caused the skiers to flee their tent in such terror that they used knives to slash their way out. Search parties were sent out and their bodies were found, some with massive internal injuries but with no external marks on them. The autopsy stated the violent injuries were caused by 'an unknown compelling force'. The area was sealed off for years by the authorities and the full events of that night remained unexplained. Using original research carried out in Russia and photographs from the skier's cameras, Keith McCloskey attempts to explain what happened to the nine young people who lost their lives in the mysterious 'Dyatlov Pass Incident'. Welcome to another episode of the Suite Spot, episode 185, and from the title we are previewing another hospitality event. One of my favorite things to do look at, and this one, it's a first timer for me, not certainly for our guests. I'm gonna bring them and we're gonna talk all about it. The Inspire USA event hosted by ILHA, the International Luxury Hotel Association. My two guests with me today, Barak Hirschowitz, President of the ILHA, and Jonathan Edelheit, co-founder of the ILHA, Barak, Jon, thank you so much for taking the time and checking into the Suite Spot with me. Barak Hirschowitz: Well, thank you. It's wonderful to be here and great to meet you. Ryan Embree: And we're excited about it, excited about the event, but before we get into that, I wanna just start with a little bit of hospitality background. We always love to kind of start there. Hospitality's such a funky industry. People come from different brands, they come from different backgrounds. Sometimes they fall into it, sometimes they fall into the industry with a summer job, sometimes they're born into the industry. So I figured let's go ahead and give our Suite Spot audience a little bit of background into your hospitality journey and what led you to the ILHA Barak. We'll start with you and then go to Jon. Barak Hirschowitz: Yeah, thanks. So I started in the industry in the late, late eighties, early nineties. I went to Johnson Wales. I started as a, I started in culinary, as many people do in the hotel industry. And those were interesting times because back then there were really only a couple of places you get a degree in culinary arts. So it led me to, you know, travel abroad, which was great. I started, just before I went overseas, I did an internship at the Grand Floridian, which believe it or not, was still a fairly new hotel back then. And then started working abroad internationally, moved eventually to more the hotel side of the business. I worked in South Africa for some very well-known hotel brands. Sun International. Sun International is Saul K's original brand that he had when he was still based in South Africa. So that, you know, today we know him for Atlantis and we know him for one, um, one and only hotels. But, um, back then he had Sun International, so I worked with him. I worked for a company called Halian Hotels, which had, uh, luxury hotels in, in South Africa, and actually a few up Africa as well. And, um, I had an opportunity, I guess my sort of real push, first push into luxury was in the late nineties. I got to help open a hotel called Bushman's Klu in South Africa, which is a luxury safari lodge. The year, within a year of opening, we, um, we became a member of Relay and Chateau, which was a pretty prestigious, uh, pretty prestigious organization. And after I left a couple of years later, the hotel went on to win Best Hotel in the world, um, travel and Leisure. So, you know, that was a, it was really a, a great opportunity to see the best of the best in the world. I still to this day think it's probably the most luxurious property I've ever stayed in, and still the best service, uh, that I've ever seen in any hotel.

Dan Waites displays an impressive depth and insightfulness in the videos on his You Tube channel World Astrology Report, but he actually didn't start working as a mundane astrologer until 2020 (mundane refers to the use of astrology to understand world events and phases).Dan had studied the subject matter and been mesmerized before that, but when the pandemic happened, it was a watershed moment for him. He realized with stark clarity that several astrologers had predicted the event – not in detail, but that there would be a global event that would shake society.“Then I knew I had to take this seriously. I have to learn this, understand this and devote myself to it”, says Dan.So, how does astrology work, really? Does it even have to do with the stars?“Skeptics often say things like ‘there is no plausible explanation for how astrology works, and therefore it does not work, therefore it's a figment of your imagination'”.“But astrology is essentially a science of consciousness. It's an interpretation of meaning. And we don't know how consciousness works! It's a bit ludicrous to expect there's going to be a simple answer to the question of how astrology works”, says Dan.There are some very interesting astrological cycles that reveal things about the times we are living in. The Jupiter-Saturn cycle, for instance. The two planetary giants meet every 20 years, and during a period of roughly 200 years, they meet in the same astrological element (earth, air, water, fire). ‘Earthiness' characterized the 19th and 20th centuries, but ‘airiness' will characterize the period we recently entered.The difference can be seen in the media, according to Waites. In the 200 years of earth, the media was centralized, and there was a sharing of assumptions, even if people didn't agree politically. Now, in the air era, we have adopted a new communication technology, the internet, which is decentralized, leading to a fragmentation of assumptions and narratives.In one of his essays on Substack, Dan Waites claims that we are in ‘The Hermetic Age'. This has to do with the extremely long Pluto-Neptune cycle. From the late 14th century, these two outer planets (in astrology, Pluto hasn't lost its planetary status) started to meet in Gemini, the sign of Hermes. They will continue to do so for another 1,800 years or so.As long as the conjunctions took place in the preceding earth sign of Taurus, society was feudal, based on landownership. Then came the printing press, the protestant Reformation and the Copernican revolution. The era of capitalism was ushered in, and power moved away from landowners to bankers.Right now, multiple cycles are suggesting that pivotal events and discoveries are under way in the fields of the UAP phenomenon and of humanity's deep history. Which is exactly what we are seeing.“An awakening to the truth about ancient history began in the 19th century, such as the interest in Atlantis. It is coming back now”, says Dan.The turbulence on the world scene also has astrological fingerprints. Pluto is currently out of bounds (it exceeds the normal range of declination from the Sun's path) to the south. This coincides with it being in the sign of Aquarius.
