While serving as a trooper in the 5th Australian Light Horse Regiment, Australian Imperial Force, Chinese-Australian Trooper William Edward "Billy" Sing DCM has been picked to take the solitary role as being a sniper on Gallipoli where he has a unique record of between 150 and 300 confirmed Ottoman kills during the eight-month campaign. Billy Sing was arguably the greatest sniper ever produced by Australia but as a Chinese Australian he was nearly denied enlistment and after the war almost forgotten. Billy died almost a pauper and alone at the age of 57. Here is his story. The Ballad of Billy Sing is presented with the permission of Mr Jeff Brown.

This week we're talking about Ruben Cavazos, the man who almost singlehandedly ruined the Mongols motorcycle club, and Billy Sing, a half-Chinese Australian sniper that put in work during World War 1. We got strip club gun fights, more garbage nicknames than you could make up in a lifetime, and Ottoman headshots for days!

We know World War I for a number of things: trenches, poison gas, the ever-present thrum of artillery. But it also served as the birthplace of the sniper. And one of the best couldn't be found on the Western, or even Eastern Front. Instead, Billy Sing fought on the shores of Gallipoli.

Billy Sing was one of those who sort of proved that Chinese could be very good citizens to Australia Mr Raymond Poon commented on this ANZAC Day in the SBS Mandarin program. - “沈比利和其他先人证明了华人能成为澳大利亚的好公民，并值得被认同。他的贡献转化了澳洲人对来华人移民的态度。”中澳历史协会的潘雷蒙（Raymond Poon）指出。
