The country's biggest stadium will host arguably the Warriors' biggest home game of the season. Eden Park will play host to next year's ANZAC Day match, after Mount Smart, Christchurch and Wellington hosted the last three years. CEO Cameron George says he's looking forward to drawing in a 'massive' crowd for the big event. "We've finally got the game back, about three years ago - and we had it Auckland for the first time at Go Media Stadium... and we just believe the event's growing." One of the earliest films from Oscar-nominated Austrailian director Peter Weir (Witness, Dead Poet's Society, The Truman Show, Master & Commander), this is a stirring tale of one of THE pivotal events in the history of Australia: their campaign with British forces to fight the Turkish forces in World War I on the hills of Gallipoli more than a hundred years ago. The story focuses on two young Austrailian sprinters (Mark Lee, Mel Gibson) who enlist together and form a strong bond, before eventually facing the brutal realities of "The Great War" when they are sent to fight. When it came out forty-five years ago, this film was not only a seminal event in Australian cinema for war movies overall. It also co-stars Bill Kerr, John Murphy, and Bill Hunter. Imagine standing in the middle of a zoo (or a supermarket, or a school pickup line) watching your child completely fall apart and feeling completely frozen... This is what I'm talking about today! This episode right here is your turning point. I'm walking you through my six-step de-escalation framework that goes way beyond the usual "get down to their level" advice you've heard a hundred times — into the neuroscience of WHY your child literally cannot hear you mid-meltdown, the one thing most parents do first that makes it last twice as long, and the small but powerful move that hands your child back their sense of control in seconds. This isn't theory. It's the exact approach I use with my own kids, the one I teach in my coaching practice, and the one I wish had been used at the Taronga Zoo lion enclosure on ANZAC Day weekend...If you want to stop dreading the next big emotional moment and start feeling genuinely equipped for it, press play.If this way of thinking resonates, my book on Amazon goes deeper into these ideas — emotional intelligence as the foundation for calmer, more connected parenting. Think of it as a companion to this conversation.
There were ugly scenes at Anzac Day dawn services when a small handful of people booed during the welcome to country in several cities. Most politicians condemned the behaviour, including opposition leader Angus Taylor, but he nevertheless said the next day that he thought the ceremonies were ‘overused' and that he understood Australians' frustration with them. In the same interview, he also said in relation to immigration there was a higher risk ‘that some bad people' come from ‘bad countries'. Tuesday's show had everything. A Sydney beach had to close because of a whale carcass washing up, which is not ideal. Tim drove to Hoyts purely to buy popcorn and a Coke and did not see a film, and we respect the commitment. We spun the wheel and played Spelling Bee, and one listener's attempt at spelling colonel will live in our memories forever. We talked about the booing at ANZAC Day ceremonies over the weekend which was genuinely upsetting. Stanley Tucci said active wear should only be worn while working out and Sydney took it as a personal attack. Kids in Sydney have been caught bus surfing which opened up the phones for everyone's own childhood crimes. Ricki saw the Michael Jackson movie and had thoughts in today's Glossys. We broke down everyone who acted strange during the White House Correspondents dinner shooting. And Pete Helliar came in to play Sing, which was exactly as chaotic as you would expect.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week Dan and Rick do a deep dive on all of the Anzac Day action, while chatting about Leichhardt Oval and how the suburban grounds differ to Dan's experience in the US. It's all this and more on America's fastest growing rugby league podcast. So… let's get into it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Professor Daniel Reynaud on the incredible true story of an assuming vicar who turned out to be the most decorated military chaplain in Australian history, who had at one point lived his life on the edge.During World War Two, a self-effacing man named Walter Dexter served as the vicar of a church in West Footscray.Walter was in his 60s and his attempts to take up a career as a farmer and a teacher had failed, and so he'd returned to his earlier vocation as a clergyman. His children regarded their father as apathetic and unambitious, who left a lot of half-completed projects around the house. But the people who knew Walter when he was younger, called him "terribly brave" and "larger than life" as Walter's earlier life was full of adventure, travel and great danger.Walter's adventures began when he first boarded a ship at 14 years old.By the end of the 19th century, and still a teenager, he'd seen Calcutta, New York, South Africa, Bombay and Tierra del Fuego. Then, during World War One, Walter's courage and compassion under fire made him the most decorated military chaplain in Australian history.Historian Daniel Reynaud has set the record straight about the improbable life of this unassuming vicar, known by the soldiers who loved him as 'The Pinching Padre'.Sailor, Soldier, Vicar, Farmer: The Improbable Life of Anzac Chaplain Walter Dexter is published by Simon & Schuster. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris. Australians across the country rose at dawn on Saturday, 25 April to mark Anzac Day, commemorating the 111th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings before participating in the annual Anzac Day parades. This year's commemorations in Sydney and Melbourne again saw participation from the Nepali-speaking community led by the Brigade of Gurkhas, including serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and former members of the Nepali Army (NA). SBS Nepali spoke to participants, including veterans, their families, and other community members and leaders who took part in the parades, about the present-day conflicts around the world and the ongoing impact of war. It’s a public holiday Monday for some, but because we love you, we’re not leaving you high and dry. We’ve picked a conversation straight from the Outlouders Facebook group that had everyone unpacking their own family dynamics: the dreaded – or in some cases beloved – family group chat. Holly, Clare and Em are diving into a dilemma from an Outlouder who has implemented a ‘new regime’ called The Sunday Roast. The rules? Every Sunday, every family member must text their weekly highs and lows along with three photos. No explanations needed, but follow-up questions are mandatory. So, is this a beautiful way to keep the family connected, or an administrative nightmare that makes you want to tap out? Plus, we have some bonus reccos and things we can't stop thinking about including micro-holidays, ‘Monthly 10s’ by Julianna Salguero and Nagi’s Miso Eggplant recipe. You’re welcome.

Before his trip to Papua New Guinea for Anzac Day commemorations, the minister for veterans' affairs and defence personnel, Matt Keogh, speaks with political editor Tom McIlroy. Keogh discusses the government's progress after the royal commission into defence and veterans' suicide, which handed its recommendations to government two years ago. The Perth MP also responds to the continued display of Ben Roberts-Smith's military uniform and medals in the Australian War Memorial – despite the recent war crime charges of murder, which the former SAS soldier strongly denies

While history tells us Anzac Day started on 25 April 1916, the first such event took place six months earlier in South Australia. The name 'Anzac Day' was coined for this colourful military parade and pageant, staged in Adelaide on 13 October 1915, which was usually reserved for the Eight Hours' Day public holiday. The first Anzac Day was to raise funds for wounded soldiers – and a forgotten Aussie was even credited with coming up with the name! So, what did this Anzac Day look like? Why did it feature not only marching soldiers and wounded veterans, but cavemen, prehistoric animals and even a fiery tram stunt?
