The Mitchells and the Bonds are following a parallel track of discovery and success, but in the late 1850s, their fortunes diverge. As the Mitchells experience success and longevity, the Bonds face one upset after another. The term “Black Swan” refers to an event which was unexpected, previously unimaginable, and had lasting consequences. The Bonds would face three black swans inside a decade on top of a series of tragedies that were just a matter of life in the 1800s. The greatness of the challenge is matched and surpassed by their resilience and focus. This is a dark episode but stick around until the end to find out how it all turns out.  Credits:This has been a production of the Nantucket Atheneum. Written, edited and narrated by Janet Forest Special thanks to the Atheneum's Reference Library Associate Jim Borzilleri for his research and insights.Resources and additional information:•Two letters from George Bond to Richard and Sarah indicating Sarah's mechanical and mathematical abilities.George to Richard – October 14, 1864George to Sarah (Sally) – October 30, 1864 • The unabridged letter Sarah Bond sent to the Third Women's Conference in 1875, which was presided over by Maria Mitchell."Potential Employments Open to Women" by S. We kick off our holiday season with the ultimate Christmastime family battle: The Lion In Winter (1968). Some families talk politics, this family IS politics. Amy and Steve discuss the near infinte quotability of the film, the performances of its leads, just how much scenery Peter O'Toole chews (hint: all of it) and Steve lends us a particular family insight of his own. Plus: James Bond made his debut! But which Bond? Listen in! We welcome Amy officially to the OscarWatch family. Huzzah! Director Anthony Harvey passed away today, November 30th at the age of 87. We would love to say that we recorded this in his memory, but it was already in the can when the news broke. Our thoughts to his family, and thank you Mr. Harvey for giving us such an enduring, endearing film. Next week, Matt returns with the next episode of our UnOscar edition. So, You Better Watch Out!

James Bond made his first appearance in Ian Fleming's novels in 1953 in the novel Casino Royale, and in 2006 a brand new James Bond makes his first appearance in a film based on that novel. Rights issues had prevented Eon from adapting the original James Bond story as part of their film series, but with the rights obtained they used that opportunity to present a new James Bond for a new generation. Not just a new actor in the role, but an entirely new take on the MI6 agent, showing his origin, his obtaining his double-oh status, and going on his first mission to win a high stakes poker game against international terrorist Le Chiffre. But did Bond need a reboot? And how does Craig stack up against the previous Bond? Listen to Arnie, Stuart, and Brock's review to find out!

It's James Bond's first adventure in the 21st century, and Pierce Brosnan's last time playing the role of the British secret agent. Partnered with Halle Berry's NSA agent Jinx Johnson, can the two stop a North Korean terrorist's nefarious plot? It's a film celebrating the lore of Bond, but not very celebrated by Bond fans. Is the reputation deserved, and what final impression does Brosnan leave as Bond? Listen to Now Playing to find out!
