Today, we're donning our tuxedos and stepping into the high-stakes world of espionage with the 2006 James Bond reboot, Casino Royale.Casino Royale marks a significant shift in the Bond franchise, introducing Daniel Craig as a more rugged, emotionally complex 007. Gone are the over-the-top gadgets and eyebrow-raising one-liners of previous Bonds. Instead, Craig brings a raw, visceral intensity to the character, along with a vulnerability we hadn't quite seen before. The film, directed by Martin Campbell, reboots the series, taking us back to Bond's first mission as a 00 agent. It's not just about the action (though there's plenty of that), but also about how Bond evolves into the iconic character we know. The high-octane opening sequence, the breathtaking parkour chase, and, of course, the tense, high-stakes poker game at Casino Royale are masterfully executed.Eva Green's portrayal of Vesper Lynd adds depth and intrigue, offering a love interest who's far more than just a 'Bond girl'. She's intelligent, enigmatic, and plays a crucial role in shaping Bond's character. And let's not forget Mads Mikkelsen's chilling performance as the villain, Le Chiffre.Casino Royale isn't just about physical battles; it's a psychological game, exploring themes of trust, betrayal, and the personal cost of being a spy. The film redefined what a Bond movie could be and set a new standard for the franchise. So, Dads, let's discuss how Casino Royale changed the Bond universe, the gritty realism of Daniel Craig's Bond, and maybe share some stories about our own less-than-glamorous attempts at suave sophistication (we've all been there).Shake up your martinis, and get ready for a deep dive into "Casino Royale" on this episode of Bad Dads Film Review.

Johnny Vedmore is one of the most feared journalists because he is willing to look in the shadows where the real power is tucked away. He often comes across unusual characters with ties to intelligence and tons of money. Such is the case of George Huntington Hartford II, a billionaire failure who inherited his “new” money and squandered it all away chasing underage girls. In the Unlimited Hangout Black Hand series, Johnny tells the story of a Harvard grad from one of the wealthiest families in the United States who found himself in a world of sex parties and partnerships with spies and movie producers such as Ian Flemming of James Bond fame, and how all of the money in the world couldn't buy this guy success.

No entertainment intellectual property has stood longer, for better or for worse (depending on who you talk to), than Ian Flemming's British gentleman super spy hypenate sexy womanizing (maybe even misogynist) international man of action, Agent 007 James Bond. Spanning 25 films from when Dr. No was released in 1968, 007 has spawned parodies, uncanonical spin offs all the while influecing the Hollywood action genre... Or perhaps chasing after trends. Fans and critics have argued and romanticized in love and hate, for some time now, over it's questionable yet alluring cinematic quality. While no different, TBC_afp steps into Her Majesty's Sercret Service to pay homage, oftenly lampooning and maybe even lambast in this two parter podcast.

Up to this point, not just in our back and forth in time viewing but in the overall history of the James Bond franchise, things have been pretty hit and miss. But, at least in our viewing, there hasn't been an absolute out of the park home run. But then... Casino Royale. Man... Let's look at the run up to this one. 2002, Die Another Day... the Bond franchise looke like it was dead. I mean... it wasn't just a bad movie, it was a terrible movie. Had this been the first film of the series... it wouldn't have been because the entire thing would have been dead in the water (but more on that in a few weeks). So, when 2006 rolled around, the prospect of another Bond movie, though welcome, didn't exactly hold a lot of promise. I mean... it really couldn't be worse, but that didn't mean much. But it was going to be different. This was a total reboot. Bond in his first mission as 007. Daniel Craig, a guy who looked like he could beat your ass. Nobody knew what to expect.   Whatever they expected, the were not prepared for what they got.   Casino Royale is not only the best Bond film, it's one of the best spy films ever, full stop. Remove James Bond completely from this, make it another agent, an unknown and this is still one of the best times you could have watching a movie. So, join us as we discuss this amazing piece of work, and create a new TV show for Ian Flemming. We will return next week with... You Only Live Twice.

Quantum of Solace. For starters, the title means nothing. It is taken from a Ian Flemming short story. However, that story has nothing to do with this movie, and it is possibly the least "Bond" story ever written. The entire thing takes place during a dinner party. There is no action, no violence, nothing. Literally, just someone telling Bond a story about a failed marriage. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about this movie. This thing is kind of baffling. It's not terrible, it's just not very good. It is very clear that there was a writers strike going on when this was made because the story is all over the place. There is potential for a good movie in here, but as it stands, especially following on the heels of Casino Royale, this just feels out of place.   We shall return in a few weeks with... Thunderball.

Who were the mysterious people to whom Le Chiffre owed money? Who is the mysterious employer behind Mr. White? These answers were to be revealed two years later in the follow-up film Quantum of Solace.
