This episode sees Daniel welcome to "Creatively Me" three-time Oscar nominated make-up artist Naomi Donne. Naomi's one of a kind approach to make-up in cinema combines academic training with deep research and storytelling, to forget looks that are at once subtle and unforgettable.Starting out by working at the BBC, Naomi soon began to lend her talents to some of the most beloved films of recent times, from working alongside Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig on the "James Bond" franchise, to her regular collaborations with Emma Thompson on films like “Matilda: The Musical” and “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande”.The Academy have recognised her singular work three times, for the 2017 war-film "1917", the 2021 Disney film "Cruella" and the 2022 comic-book crime epic "The Batman".Naomi has also used her platform and talents for good, launching the YouTube series "Made Up Stories" which, featuring guests like Ruby Wax. This series sees Naomi craft stunning beauty looks for women who, because of health issues, unfortunate events or through ageism or sexism don't feel quite like themselves any more.On today's episode, Naomi details how Doctor Who became an unlikely moment of inspiration for her and her career, her work with talents like Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves on "The Batman", and the evolution for her work on the "007" franchise.Plus she'll be sharing why working with Emma Thompson across multiple projects remains such a delight. All of this & more on today's episode of "Creatively Me".Naomi Donne - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0232644/Naomi Donne on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/accounts/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Fnaomidonnemakeupdesigner%2F&is_from_rleMade Up Stories by Naomi Donne on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/naomidonneConnect with Daniel on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/d.heaphymedia/Connect with Daniel on Facebook - https://m.facebook.com/100067449105174/Connect with Daniel on LinkedIn - https://ie.linkedin.com/in/daniel-heaphy-4984381a3Daniel on IMDB - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm13256427/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_1_nm_7_q_DANIEL%2520HEAPHYEmail - creativelymepodcast@gmail.com“Creatively Me” Theme Music by Bukky - https://open.spotify.com/artist/1v7rqTLaVA3Ce6Q9R98dSqDaniel Heaphy is a twenty-six years old graduate of a BA in Creative Digital Media and an MA in Film & Screen Media. Acclaimed genre filmmaker Joe Johnston (Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Captain America: The First Avenger) directed this highly anticipated Disney adaptation of the titular graphic novel from the 1980's.  It takes place in the 1940's Los Angeles where aspiring pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) is trying to make a name for himself on the flying circuit until one day, he suddenly finds a mysterious metal device along with his friend/mechanic Peevy played by Oscar-winner Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine, Catch 22). What they soon realize is that this device is actually a secret prototype jet-pack which the local Mafia, the FBI, AND the Nazis (!) are all on the hunt for. :o So Cliff tries on the jet-pack, is able to fly, and suddenly becomes....The Rocketeer!  And what results is a fun throwback adventure which was initially a flop upon release in the Summer of 1991 but would eventually garner a cult following.  The stellar cast also includes Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly, Timothy Dalton, and the late, great Paul Sorvino. Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us Fan MailSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The Doctor's Beard Podcast

John and Jim witness Sylvester McCoy's entrance as the Seventh Doctor with sharply divided first impressions, a regeneration Jim wasn't expecting to see, Kate O'Mara's scene-stealing Mel impression, and listener mail exploding with passionate defenses, dire warnings, and Shag's triumphant return. The Regeneration Confusion: The opening delivers McCoy in a wig tumbling around the TARDIS console, but does blunt force trauma from turbulence really count as a dignified send-off for the most maligned Doctor? The Rani's pre-credits kidnapping analyzed as "probably the campiest scene in Doctor Who ever." Jim's Verdict: Not Impressed Opening confession sets the tone for controversy: Jim dubs McCoy "the Tumbler Doctor" and struggles to see anything beyond "Uncle Morty's Carnival of Fun" children's show host energy. Discussion covers whether this is purposeful Troughton homage or just broad physical comedy, whether McCoy's acting reads as awkward versus committed, and Jim's struggle between respecting the evolution promise versus judging what's actually on screen in Part 1. The "Children's Show" Debate: Does Season 24 represent a deliberate pivot back to Doctor Who as kids' programming? Jim raises the uncomfortable question after recognizing McCoy primarily as BBC children's performer. John pushes back on the script but concedes the Doctor's characterization in this story absolutely plays as juvenile. Kate O'Mara's Double Duty: Extended appreciation for Kate's Bonnie Langford impression complete with chirpiness, voice work, and gradually losing it as the Doctor frustrates her. Jim admits the initial visual shock of "seeing Kate O'Mara as Bonnie Langford" but acknowledges she won him over. The hosts debate whether the Rani gets enough screen time and whether this story serves the character as well as "Mark of the Rani." What Happened to Mel?: Jim calls out the regression: "They took the Mickey Mouse out of Mel." From confident agency in Trial to suggesting they just leave and go back to the TARDIS, plus scream count reaching numbers 5-7 in just two episodes. Is this the Mel we admired or has she become Peri 2.0? John defends specific moments (the flip, proving identity, computer knowledge) while acknowledging some scenes don't look good. The Icona chemistry tease explored. Production Highlights: The bubble traps earn universal praise as maybe the best effect in Classic Who history—the spinning, bouncing, exploding sequence perfectly executed. Tetraps debut Doctor Who's first animatronics with six full heads for the leisure center scene. The Citadel exterior combined with effects impresses. Jim notes "effects are better—they made another jump." Malapropisms and Outfits: McCoy's word-mangling wears out its welcome fast for both hosts. The trying-on-previous-Doctors'-outfits sequence judged as "too winky winky" and unnecessary fanservice. Discovery that "Mrs. Malaprop" comes from 1775 play The Rivals. The question mark vest that McCoy hated. The Bowery Boys comparison for hat and coat. The Leisure Center Problem: Why introduce this massive 80s-heavy concept (complete with Dugadoos music) in Part 3 only to abandon it? Discussion of wasted opportunities and typical Doctor Who late-story concept bloat. The anklet bracelets vs. original "ball of bees" control method questioned. Production Context: JNT wanted out, BBC couldn't find replacement, Sidney Newman brought in as consultant with idea to bring back Troughton traveling with old-fashioned 12-year-old Beatles fan. The "impish person" concept stuck. McCoy cast from Twelfth Night production same night Cubby Broccoli saw Timothy Dalton for Bond. Andrew Cartmel signs as new story editor influenced by Judge Dredd and Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen. Ratings: 5.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.9—not good. Coming Up Next: Patreon Exclusive (Monday - Episode 167): Comic "The Gift" (four parts, not one or three!), more music, Memory TARDIS with Colin now added to the wheel, and Big Finish audio Flip Flop featuring Seventh Doctor and Mel. Main Feed (Friday) & Patreon (Monday): "Paradise Towers" - John handling narration for the four-part story. fWotD Episode 3249: Octopussy and The Living Daylights Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Saturday, 28 March 2026, is Octopussy and The Living Daylights.Octopussy and The Living Daylights (sometimes published as Octopussy) is the fourteenth and final James Bond book written by Ian Fleming. The book is a collection of short stories published in the United Kingdom by Jonathan Cape on 23 June 1966, after Fleming's death in August 1964.The book originally contained two stories, "Octopussy" and "The Living Daylights"; subsequent editions also included "The Property of a Lady" and then "007 in New York". The stories first appeared in different publications: "Octopussy" was serialised in the Daily Express in October 1965; "The Living Daylights" appeared in The Sunday Times colour supplement on 4 February 1962; "The Property of a Lady" was commissioned by Sotheby's for the 1963 edition of their journal, The Ivory Hammer; and "007 in New York" appeared in the New York Herald Tribune in October 1963.Many of the elements of the stories are from Fleming's own interests and experiences, including climbing in Kitzbühel, Austria, wartime commando deeds and the sea-life of Jamaica. He used the names of friends and acquaintances for characters within the stories and also used a recipe for scrambled eggs given to him by a friend. The two original stories, "Octopussy" and "The Living Daylights", were adapted for publication in comic strip format in the Daily Express in 1966–1967. Elements from the stories have also been used in the Eon Productions Bond films. Octopussy, starring Roger Moore as James Bond, was released in 1983 as the thirteenth film in the series and Fleming's story provided the background for the character Octopussy; "The Property of a Lady" was closely adapted for an auction sequence in the film. The Living Daylights, released in 1987, is the fifteenth Bond film produced by Eon and stars Timothy Dalton in his first appearance as Bond. "007 in New York" provided character and plot elements for the first two films starring Daniel Craig as Bond, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:02 UTC on Saturday, 28 March 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Octopussy and The Living Daylights on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Kendra.

Send a textWelcome to our 115th episode!  All you lit snobs and library weirdos out there, have we got a treat in store!  This time on Fabulous Film & Friends we will be discussing not one, not two, not three but up to SEVEN filmed adaptations of Emilie Bronte's classic 1847 tale of love, passion, class struggle, family trauma, REVENGE! And haunted winds ripping through the northern English moors. WUTHERING HEIGHTS! I'm your host, Gino Caputi and I'm joined by my kid sis the English Literature Major and Wuthering Heights MEGA FAN, Roseanne Caputi and  we will endeavor to find the truest and best filmed adaptation of the novel, starting from the 1939 William Wyler directed Laurence Olivier Merle Oberon venture  all the way up to the current 2026 Emerald Fennel reimagining starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.  For the first time on this podcast we're breaking with my iron clad rules and tradition and including a version produced for television.  So we have the aforementioned 1939 production directed by William Wyler and starring Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff, Merle Oberon as Catherine and David Niven as Edgar LintonNow I watched this one but Roseanne didn't, big chicken that she is, the 1958 Dupont Show of the Week Presentation starring Richard Burton as Heathcliff, Rosemary Harris as Catherine and Denholm Eliot as Edgar Linton  Then we jump ahead 12 years to a earthy yet still mod 1970 adaptation directed by Robert Fuest and starring Anna Calder-Marshall, Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff and Ian Ogilvy as Linton 22 years later we get the somewhat perfunctory production directed by Peter Kominsky and starring Juliet Binoche as Catherine, Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff and Simon Shepherd as Edgar Linton Then 7 years after that we get the stellar TV version directed by Coky Giedroyc and starring Tom Hardy as Heathcliff, Charlotte Riley as Catherine and Andrew Lincoln as Edgar Linton 2 years after that there's the peculiar movie version directed by Andrea Arnold where the focus is on the younger versions of the characters starring Solomon Glave and James Howson as Heathcliff, Shannon Beer and Kaya Scodelario as Catherine and James Northcote as Edgar Linton And that brings up to 2026's Emerald Fennal version starring Margot Robbie as Catherine, Jacob Elordy as Heathcliff and Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton. Before we dive in, the synopsis: Young brooding Heathcliffe, a gypsy adopted by Thomas Earnshaw-- patriarch of Wuthering Heights, falls in love with his wild-eyed and passionate adoptive sister Catherine. Though Catherine and Heathcliff are soulmates, Catherine in turn marries foppish wealthy Edgar Linton. When Healthcliff leaves the Heights and returns a wealthy man, all hell breaks loose on the Northen English moors.  Which filmed version truly captures the essence of Emily Bronte's classic novel?Find out!Watch the podcast on youtube:https://youtu.be/kMrbmMZcejY

This week Matt joins me to chat about Timothy Daltons first James Bond outing, "The Living Daylights". Now that i've seen all the Bond films and I've had some time apart, I wanted to revisit this one to see if my opinion on it has changed. Is this a top 10 Bond film for me now? I also get matts perspective on it as someone seeing it for the first time, and someone who has never seen any of the Roger Moore films that precede it.Since it was Valentines week when we recorded this I thought it would be nice to try a wine finished whiskey. Enter Nelson Brothers Mouvedre cask. From their site "Nelson Brothers Mourvèdre Cask brings a piece of the Sierra Foothills of California down to Nelson's Green Brier Distillery in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. Southern grain meets Northern California grapes thanks to this partnership with Withers Winery out of Sonoma County.  Known to appeal to richer wine drinkers, Mourvedre brings notes of dark plum and cracked peppercorns to every bottle. The bourbon touts notes of cherry cobbler, almond, sweet mint and honey."

When it comes to box office numbers, even 007 can suffer a misfire. Though not a proper bomb, Timothy Dalton's second outing as cinema's favorite superspy, License to Kill, proved lukewarm with moviegoers and critics, closing out the 80s on a sour note and laying the series fallow for another six years until Pierce Brosnon took up the mantle in GoldenEye. But should this odd pairing of revenge espionage and Miami Vice-style crime drama be callously thrown to the sharks? Join Sebastian and Does This Come in Chromium's Matt Anderson as they revel in the glory of a young Benicio Del Toro, mix cocaine with gasoline and celebrate the all-too brief run of the franchise's most underrated James Bond.

We talk about why Licence to Kill barely feels like a Bond movie, where it works, where it doesn't, and why this might be the most “80s action movie” Bond ever made.Featuring Younity, chaotic side conversations, and way too much time spent on one extremely distracting lookalike.

Compliments of the season to you from the At The Flicks crew. If you are like us, then you will be watching at least one James Bond film this Christmas.  Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice and Live And Let Die are choices very popular with this team.  All classics. However, with James Bond somewhat cold at present and Amazon seemingly muddling through with the franchise, we have to ask the question – is the age of James Bond as we know it, over? And that is the subject of the At The Flicks Christmas lecture for this year.  It's a weighty subject, so we have to call on an expert to help address this question.  Bond fan Niall Browne from Movies In Focus joins Jeff and Graham to discuss how did we get here and Amazon's current handling of the James Bond legacy (clue, it's not off to a good start). Of course, a screenwriter and director have been allocated to a new Bond project.  We talk about both and assess if they are the right people for the job or is Amazon “front loading” with talent over ideas? Being life long James Bond aficionados, we also offer some advice on what could or should be next for the superspy – that is, we talk about what we would like to see. Also, we consider the right attributes for the next actor to play James Bond, and of course, like everyone else, we throw in some names. Some of which may be controversial. So, before you settle down with your Christmas Pud (British reference there) to watch Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig, why not give us a listen? And if you have ideas about Bond which are not being talked about, please let us know for a possible future follow up show as I am sure the James Bond story is going to change a lot during 2026. Until then, have a great Christmas. We will be back at year's end to share our top films of the year with you. Links Goldfinger Trailer

He'll Save Every One Of Us....Yes it's the story of Flash Gordon (Sam Jones), the fictitious quarterback of the New York Jets who inadverdently travels into deep space with intrepid travel agent Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) and crazy-but-misunderstood scientest Dr. Hans Zarkov).  They land on the mysterious planet of Mongo which is ruled by the vicious Emperor Ming (Max von Sydow) who intends to destroy Earth. :o And together, they embark on a crazy sci-fi adventure to try to save their home planet while also encountering various local leaders who may OR may not be able to help them including Prince Barin (Timothy Dalton), Princess Aura (Ornella Muti), and the boisterous Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed).  Forty-five years ago, this comic book adaptation was released into theaters with much fanfare by famous producer Dino DeLaurentis (Serpico, Blue Velvet, Conan the Barbarian, Hannibal) who was hoping that this big budget enterprise would duplicate the success of Star Wars which had come out just three years prior.  Disappointingly, the film received weak box office and weak reviews upon initial release but eventually would grow to be a beloved cult classic on cable and video.....with much of its success due to a slam-bang soundtrack by the band Queen!  And now its legacy lives on very much due to some VERY catchy music featured throughout including the now iconic main theme song perfomed by the band.  Directed by the late, great Mike Hodges (Get Carter, Croupier), it's time to head back to Ming City on our rocket cycle and.......DIIIIIIVE!!!!!Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

We return to our rundown of Flash Gordon, just as Flash and Prince Barin are being taken to the Hawkmen's planet to fight to the death!Flash Gordon was directed by Mike Hodges, the British filmmaker behind Get Carter and Pulp, and produced by the legendary Dino De Laurentiis. Based on the King Features comic strip created by Alex Raymond, the film stars Sam J. Jones as the all-American hero Flash, Melody Anderson as Dale Arden, Ornella Muti as the dangerous Princess Aura, Max von Sydow as Ming the Merciless, and Topol as the eccentric scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov. The supporting cast includes Timothy Dalton, Brian Blessed, Peter Wyngarde, Peter Duncan and John Hallam — a line-up that reads like a who's who of cult cinema. We dig into the incredible production history of Flash Gordon, from De Laurentiis' first attempts in the 1960s to his decision to turn down George Lucas — a choice that helped inspire Star Wars. The film's troubled development included a scrapped version by Nicolas Roeg, with Debbie Harry once rumoured to play Princess Aura. Eventually, Hodges took the reins, working from a screenplay by Lorenzo Semple Jr., the same writer who brought Batman's colourful POW! ZAP! style to TV in the 1960s. That influence is clear throughout, giving Flash Gordon its unmistakable comic-book tone. The film was shot mainly at Elstree and Shepperton Studios, pushing British set design and visual effects to the limit. For the famous Hawkmen sequence, the crew built a sixty-foot-high, hundred-foot-wide blue screen powered by a million watts of light. The result is one of the most gloriously excessive moments in sci-fi history — a flying army, Brian Blessed shouting “Gordon's alive!” and Queen blasting through the speakers.Speaking of Queen, we explore how their soundtrack revolutionised film music, paving the way for rock bands to score major blockbusters. The combination of Freddie Mercury's operatic flair and Howard Blake's orchestral compositions gave Flash Gordon a sonic identity that still feels fresh today. We also look at the film's eclectic cast. Sam J. Jones' brief but memorable career, Melody Anderson's move from acting to social work, and Ornella Muti's headline-grabbing life and legal troubles. There's Max von Sydow's path from The Seventh Seal to The Exorcist and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Topol's secret links to Mossad, Timothy Dalton's long and winding journey to becoming James Bond, and Peter Wyngarde's transformation from Department S to the gold-masked villain Klytus. And, of course, the mighty Brian Blessed — mountaineer, Shakespearean thunder-god, near-astronaut, and national treasure. From I, Claudius to Doctor Who, Cats, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and beyond, he's one of Britain's most extraordinary performers. In this episode, we unpack the layers of Flash Gordon as both cult classic and chaotic masterpiece: how its bright visuals masked a difficult shoot, how its camp sensibility influenced generations of filmmakers, and why it remains a cornerstone of British sci-fi fandom. Whether you're here for trivia, nostalgia, or the Queen soundtrack alone, this is one of our most detailed episodes yet — and we'll be back next week with part two to finish the adventure.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. This week, we take you through the extraordinary, over-the-top world of Flash Gordon (1980) — the space opera superhero film that blended camp comedy, science-fiction spectacle, and Queen's iconic soundtrack into something truly cosmic. The second half of this intergalactic adventure will land next week. Flash Gordon was directed by Mike Hodges, the British filmmaker behind Get Carter and Pulp, and produced by the legendary Dino De Laurentiis. The result is one of the most gloriously excessive moments in sci-fi history — a flying army, Brian Blessed shouting “Gordon's alive!” and Queen blasting through the speakers. Speaking of Queen, we explore how their soundtrack revolutionised film music, paving the way for rock bands to score major blockbusters. Whether you're here for trivia, nostalgia, or the Queen soundtrack alone, this is one of our most detailed episodes yet — and we'll be back next week with part two to finish the adventure. Don't be shy, send me a message!Thomas Felix Creighton examines the Britishness of Timothy Dalton's first outing as Ian Fleming's creation, James Bond, 007.Part One: Brits in AfghanistanThomas touches on iconic imagery, such as the infamous painting, “The remnants of an army, Jellalabad [sic], January 13, 1842”, which is better known as just "Remnants of an Army". It was painted by Elizabeth Thompson, Lady Butler in 1878, and shows Dr. William Brydon, assistant surgeon in the Bengal Army, arriving at the gates of Jalalabad in January 1842. He was thought to be the only survivor of a massacre at The Khyber Pass. This is detailed in a book Thomas has recommended before, "The Great Game: The Struggle for Empire in Central Asia" by Peter Hopkirk, the chapter "Massacre in the Passes". For the sake of variety, Thomas reads from a book not previously covered in his episodes on the British Empire, namely, Jeremy Paxman's "Empire: What Ruling the World Did to the British".If it wasn't clear in the episode (Thomas has been down with a cold and is still a tiny bit fuzzy), the 'British' were fighting in Afghanistan mainly to forestall any Russian influence there, as it was seen as the gateway to India. Not so different from James Bond's objectives in the movie, I suppose.Part Two: A Potpourri of Britishness Covering a shop with a dress code, British technology, Aston Martins, and country estates. Thomas can't resist referencing an American court case, Leonard v. Pepsico, Inc. Give me a harrier jump jet, or I'll sue...Part Three: Fleming. Ian Fleming.Again, seeking some measure of variety, Thomas reads two short sections from "The Life of Ian Fleming" by John Pearson, Fleming's friend and biographer. Two further biographies were consulted, especially the ones by Nicholas Shakespeare and Andrew Lycett, but Pearson's was better on this occasion. Thomas also refer to a collection of Fleming's writing recently released, named, "Talk of the Devil", possibly getting the title wrong. If he does get it wrong, he blames the cold.Hungry for more?Check out episodes 133 & 134, all about Gibraltar thanks to my friend Caine, who spent a weekend on The Rock purely to help out my podcast. In this episode of The Other Half podcast, the boys watch the last Timothy Dalton film, Licence to Kill. It's weird that we just got Timothy Dalton and he's already going the way of George Lazenby. (But has a career afterwards). It's mostly weird because this may be one of the best Bond films to exist. Maybe it's because it shakes the formula up and makes Bond care about something else besides just Queen and Country. Or maybe because sharks are cool, and so is electrocuting people with electric eels! Also, please can he get a shoutout for all the Remington Steele fans out there??Don't forget to join our Discord for movie nights and additional podcast discussions!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

This time on General Witchfinders, we're heading into deep space — and hell itself — with the notorious 1997 science fiction horror film Event Horizon.··Directed by Paul Anderson and written by Philip Eisner, Event Horizon is set in 2047. A rescue crew investigates the ship Event Horizon, which vanished years earlier and is now orbiting Neptune.··After Mortal Kombat (1995), Anderson was suddenly in demand, linked to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and even X-Men. Instead, he wanted a darker R-rated project. Paramount gave him Eisner's script, first about alien creatures, but Anderson reworked it into a haunted house in space, drawing on The Haunting and The Shining.··Filming was rushed when Titanic slipped its release. The first 130-minute cut was heavily trimmed after poor test screenings. One infamous scene, a Bosch-inspired vision of Hell using amputees and adult performers, survived only as brief flashes but fuelled the film's cult status.··The gravity drive began as a floating black hole but was redesigned as rotating spiked rings, echoing Clive Barker's Hellraiser and biblical Ophanim. Built to really move, it rattled so much that dialogue was re-recorded later. Eisner admitted Warhammer 40,000's “Warp” also influenced the idea.··At the time Anderson was credited as “Paul Anderson.” He later added the W. S. to avoid confusion with Paul Thomas Anderson. His later films include Resident Evil entries and Alien vs. Predator.··Filming took place at Pinewood Studios with visual effects by Cinesite and the Computer Film Company. The interior design was inspired by Notre Dame, creating a cruciform gothic cathedral feel. An early space station shot of Dr. Weir took 10 weeks, a third of the FX budget, and was redone more than 20 times. Composer Michael Kamen worked with Orbital for a hybrid score.··Laurence Fishburne plays Captain Miller of the Lewis and Clark. He later voiced the Silver Surfer, played Jack Crawford in Hannibal, and appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.··Sam Neill plays Dr. William Weir. Famous for Jurassic Park, he once auditioned for James Bond, losing to Timothy Dalton, and appeared in Possession and Omen III: The Final Conflict.··Jason Isaacs appears as D.J., the medic. Early credits include The Tall Guy. He went on to play Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and Harry H. Corbett in The Curse of Steptoe. He recalled Event Horizon as “genuinely disturbing,” especially the “hell set.”··Sean Pertwee plays pilot Smith. Son of Jon Pertwee, the Third Doctor, he appeared in Cadfael, horror favourite Dog Soldiers, and later Gotham as Alfred Pennyworth, reimagined as ex-special forces.··Event Horizon remains a cult 1990s sci-fi horror, combining gothic design, disturbing imagery, and a cast of future stars. Its lost footage and production stories keep fans returning to one of the most infamous horror films of the decade.·Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. Hosted on Acast.
