Let's talk about Microsoft terminating the "This is an Xbox" campaign -- those cringey ads claiming your phone, TV, fridge, and toaster were all full consoles just got quietly scrubbed from Xbox Wire with the original post now a straight 404 and every tag purged after Phil Spencer retired and Sarah Bond bounced. It was her big push to make hardware irrelevant via Game Pass cloud nonsense but it angered fans and even their own staff internally so bad the new boss Asha Sharma is erasing it all while recommitting to actual consoles like Project Helix -- yeah no shock when you spend years telling gamers the box doesn't matter anymore.Watch the podcast episodes on YouTube and all major podcast hosts including Spotify.CLOWNFISH TV is an independent, opinionated news and commentary podcast that covers Entertainment and Tech from a consumer's point of view. Welcome to episode #264 of The COD Casuals, where we discuss all things Call of Duty, casual and professional! In this episode, we kick off with some big gaming news, as it was announced recently that Microsoft Gaming's former CEO Phil Spencer is retiring after over a decade in the role, as well as former President of Xbox, Sarah Bond. This launches a new era for Xbox. The next president stepping in, Asha Sharma, coming off of being president of Microsoft AI, lots of concerns are circling around the fear that Xbox will go heavy into the AI side of gaming. Is this the future for the brand, and if it is, what will the fans think about this move? We give our thoughts on the future of Xbox, and further discuss what they need to do to bring Xbox back to its glory days of gaming, once as a titan in the console wars. Finally, we close with some CDL news, as we have some big moves forwards and backwards for a lot of teams in the league. With the current power rankings all over the place, we have a very interesting next couple of weeks ahead of us, and we share our opinions on what we're seeing from the teams in question. What do you think of the new change in leadership at Xbox? Do you believe this is the right move for the company going forward? Do you have concerns regarding AI becoming a huge part of the Xbox brand, or do you believe it won't be as big of a deal as people are making it out to be? Finally, who are some of your sleeper teams in the CDL right now, and which teams do you think need to blow it up? Please let us know as we discuss this and much more! This week, Zak and Aaron sit down to discuss some pretty massive changes over at Xbox, namely the retirement of long-time CEO Phil Spencer and the quiet disappearance of his heir apparent, Sarah Bond. In their place, we find Asha Sharma, a seasoned executive who most recently led Microsoft's CoreAI team. The why of it all is a bit murky at the moment, but that leaves plenty of room for speculation, with one big question at the heart of everything: what's next for Xbox as the brand navigates its new, Phil-free future? Please, enjoy.Sources:Asha Sharma named EVP and CEO, Microsoft Gaming - The Official MicrosoftBlogThe Xbox Situation Is Worse Than Microsoft Are Letting On - Bellular NewsNew Xbox CEO Responds To ‘Real Gamer,' AI Tweet Accusations - ForbesBillions of dollars later and still nobody knows what an Xbox is - The VergeCall Of Duty Lost $300 Million In Sales Due To Game Pass - Report - GameSpotBlack Ops 7 Had Call Of Duty's Worst Sales Year Ranking In The US Since 2008 - GameSpotXbox Sales Are Down 70% Year-Over-Year With PS5 Down 40% - ForbesListen to Beach Girl on SpotifyCheck Out MosscatMarket on Instagram
Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about. Stack it up! Join Matt and Alex as they discuss, among other things, Ghost of Yotei, Mewgenics, Resident Evil Requiem, and Marathon. What’s more, we delve into Sony’s latest PlayStation Plus Essential monthly games, and we focus on Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond abruptly departing Microsoft. And if you think that’s all, then you’ve got another thing coming! We hit the high notes, and we hit the low notes, but we’ll always bring the banter. What are you waiting for? Dive in! As always, the opinions fly fast and heavy! Look out for this super-sized show, as the seemingly smallest conversation veers off into a multiverse of chit-chat. Sounds cool, huh? That’s the fancy way of saying “derailment.” And there’s plenty of that to go around! Let’s dance, Heroes of the XMB! We discuss the closure of Bluepoint studios from Sony. We dive into the scapegoating of Sarah Bond and the new management of Xbox, and the typical "gamers" comments on this. I also give my review of the game TowerBorne, an rpg beat em up.

¡Dale PLAY!
I was at Dice & Diversions and played a bunch of board games, and I talk about two of them - Magical Athlete, and Draft & Write Records. The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack's Virtual Boy collection has released, and I did buy the $100 piece of plastic to get the headaches I remember. There was a shakeup at Xbox - CEO Phil Spencer retired, President Sarah Bond resigned, and Asha Sharma, a former AI executive, is now CEO. Then we talk to Jamie about the Xbox shakeup and how we can be cautiously optimistic - IF they learn from their mistakes.
The winds of change are blowing through Xbox! Two of their three leaders that have guided the entire Series generation in Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond are out. Staying is Matt Booty, who was also promoted (!), and joining as the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming is Asha Sharma. Despite Sarah Bond seemingly being groomed as Phil's successor, Asha steps in with a background that touts her as President of Microsoft's CoreAI alongside time spent at Instacart and Meta as an executive leader. Similarly to when Phil inherited the mess from Don Mattrick, Asha has her work cut out for her. Joining the Dukes is none other than the man to blame for all this nonsense, Brad Ellis. Together, the trio comb through the initial Microsoft blog post that broke the news. From there, we dig into an article by Tom Warren of The Verge who lays the blame of many of Xbox's shortcomings at the feet of Sarah Bond. Like many in our audience asked, we discuss if this is a hit piece, the truth, or somewhere in between. Lastly, Asha Sharma and Matt Booty sat down to chat with Jez Corden about the new lay of the land for Xbox. There are some answers and many questionable non-answers that lead to conversations of their own. Together, let's unpack what is a seismic change for Xbox as the brand continues to feel like it's hanging on by a thread. In this week's episode of GameBurst, we navigate a particularly turbulent period for the video game industry, marked by significant leadership shifts and mounting legal pressures. We lead with the executive upheaval at Xbox, where the sudden departures of stalwarts Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond have forced a swift pledge from new leadership to return the brand to its console hardware roots. The legal landscape for Valve also intensifies this week. The PC gaming giant is currently facing a dual-front battle: a lawsuit from the New York attorney general over alleged illegal gambling within loot box systems, and a staggering £656m collective action claim in the UK courts regarding Steam's market dominance. Meanwhile, the human cost of industry consolidation is felt at Eurogamer and Outside Xbox, which have been hit by a fresh wave of editorial layoffs following their acquisition in 2024. On a brighter note for fans of gothic platforming, Konami has announced Castlevania: Belmont's Curse for a 2026 release, developed in collaboration with the team behind Dead Cells. We also discuss the departure of creative director Clint Hocking from Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe and dive into our Picks of the Week, featuring the board game Speakeasy and the latest from LumiBricks. Finally, we address community feedback regarding the ethics of game ratings and the evolution of the podcast's format. #gameburst

Join Here: https://ow.ly/msoH50WCu0KThe latest Notorious Mass Effect segment from Analytic Dreamz dives deep into the seismic leadership shift at Microsoft Gaming in February 2026. Asha Sharma, former President of Microsoft CoreAI with prior executive roles at Instacart and Meta, has been appointed EVP and CEO of Microsoft Gaming, succeeding Phil Spencer after his 38-year tenure—including 12 years leading Xbox, during which the business nearly tripled in scale. Spencer transitions to an advisory role through summer 2026.Sharma's "Return to Xbox" vision emphasizes reclaiming the brand's renegade spirit of surprise, experimentation, and building what others won't—starting with a recommitment to console hardware and protecting 25 years of ecosystem investments. Key pillars include reducing device barriers across console, PC, mobile, and cloud, while enabling developers to build once and deploy everywhere. Upcoming hardware announcements are teased, amid speculation on continued roadmap support, including potential handhelds, with no abandonment of dedicated consoles confirmed. The segment covers executive changes: Sarah Bond's resignation (after ~8-9 years), Matt Booty's promotion to EVP & Chief Content Officer overseeing nearly 40 studios (Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, King), and recent financials from Microsoft's Q2 FY26 report—overall corporate revenue up 17% to $81.3B, but gaming down 9% to $5.96B (hardware -32%, content/services -5%), representing just over 7% of total revenue, attributed to softer first-party releases versus prior-year comps. Despite 500M+ monthly active users and top publisher status across platforms, challenges persist from the ecosystem-first shift, exclusivity debates (e.g., ports of Halo, Forza, Gears), and internal fallout from "This Is An Xbox" messaging.Sharma stresses AI as a tool—not a replacement—vowing no "soulless AI slop" in games as human art, while addressing fan concerns with "Hear you" and a data-driven stance: "The plan's the plan until it's not the plan." Analytic Dreamz breaks down the 25-year brand tensions, acquisition legacy (Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, Minecraft), and what this reset means for Xbox's future amid hardware contraction and multi-platform realities.Tune in for this unfiltered analysis of Microsoft Gaming's pivotal moment in 2026.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/exclusive-contentPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Today, we're talking about the future of Xbox. Phil Spencer, a two-time Decoder guest who's led Xbox for more than a decade, resigned. But in a shocking twist, his deputy long-assumed successor Sarah Bond is also out too, and the Xbox division is now in the hands of an Asha Sharma, one of Microsoft's AI executives with no prior game industry experience. There is no better person to talk to about all of this than Tom Warren, senior editor here at The Verge and author of the excellent Notepad newsletter. Tom is actually on parental leave right now, but Microsoft has a longstanding habit of disrupting his well-earned time off. So, Tom was gracious enough to come on the show after publishing a major scoop about what went down at Xbox this past week. We also dive into the reporting surrounding internal reactions to the “Xbox Anywhere” push, the shift back toward core console players, and what Asha Sharma's AI-focused background could signal for the future of gaming. Is Xbox returning to its roots — or entering a new era entirely? On the PlayStation side, we discuss Sony Interactive Entertainment's decision to close Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the Demon's Souls remake. We break down Herman Hulst's justification, the broader industry challenges Sony cited, and what this means for PlayStation Studios moving forward. Finally, we talk about the confirmed release date for Marvel's Wolverine and how it fits into PlayStation's roadmap for 2026. What do you think — is Xbox stabilizing or struggling? This week Hans Gougar joins to discuss the current state of video game adaptations in Hollywood. Between Nintendo's collaborations with Sony Pictures and Universal, to television like Fallout & The Last of Us, the hottest trend in cinema right now is adapting your favorite game to the silver (or small) screen. In what ways is this similar to the superhero Marvel Studios-led gold rush, and what lessons can Hollywood learn from the last 5 years of superhero fatigue? We break it all down. We also cover all the Nintendo and gaming news such as Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond leaving Xbox, Sony closing down Playstation studio Bluepoint, the Supreme Court overturning Trump's tariffs, Pokemon Leaf Green and Fire Red coming to Switch and much more. As always, we close with the games we've been playing. The Gi crew return to discuss Phil Spencer & Sarah Bond suddenly stepping down from their positions at Xbox, the new Xbox CEO's plans, Sony's plan to rob YOU, Xenoverse 3, Skate getting worse and more.
Last Friday, news broke that much of the senior leadership that's been steering Xbox for the past decade and more have departed the company. Phil Spencer? Retired. Sarah Bond? Gone. Instead, one of the members of that group, Matt Booty, has ascended alongside a new Xbox CEO that comes from Microsoft's—wait for it—AI division.
