Welcome back to the conclusion of my interview with Author and Retired DEA Special Agent Léo Silva.Leo Silva spent over twenty-eight years on the frontlines of the global war on drugs as a special agent with the DEA. Leo's journey took him from the alleyways of Fronton Street to some of the most dangerous corners of North America, leading high-impact investigations against the Zeta and Gulf Cartels. He served as the Resident Agent in Charge of the DEA's Monterrey office, overseeing complex, cross-border operations that resulted in hundreds of high-value arrests and multi-million-dollar asset seizures. Over the course of his decorated career, he also held leadership roles in McAllen, Texas, and Guadalajara, Mexico—pioneering collaborative missions with Mexican authorities and helping rewrite the playbook for modern narco enforcement. Now, Leo has turned his attention to storytelling. His debut memoir, Reign of Terror, offers a powerful, unfiltered look at the reality behind the headlines—a world of corruption, courage, and the personal cost of justice. The book has gained traction internationally and has been translated into Spanish for a Latin American release.Leo is truly the real deal. This is a guy who has worked undercover numerous times in America and went after some of the most dangerous Mexican drug cartels. Please enjoy my chat with Leo Silva. In today's episode we discuss:· Having no diplomatic immunity and not being allowed to have a firearm while working in Mexico hunting down drug cartels.· The different drug cartels in Mexico that were active while Silva was working there.· The Zeta drug cartel.· The horrifying Bengal Tiger incident.· How Silva navigated the corruption and the levels or tiers of Mexican police and how he worked with them?· Using shock and awe! Creative ways to get to the Cartel bosses.· The house of hell and torturing people.· The Casino Royale fire. What was the motive?· What was the endgame for the dismantling of the Zetas?· What happened to Acapulco?· What do you think is the future of Mexico? It seems like cartel violence is starting to hit tourist areas now.· How Mexican cartels started with bootlegging during Prohibition. All of this and more on today's episode of the Cops and Writers podcast.Head on over to Leo's website to learn more about him and his work.Check out the new Cops and Writers YouTube channel!Check out my newest book, The Good Collar (Michael Quinn Vigilante Justice Series Book 1)!!!!!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this week's episode of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd crack open the covers of some of their favorite books that eventually made their way to the big screen. While the hosts inevitably touch on the films these books inspired, the heart of the conversation stays grounded in the written word—the themes, characters, and emotional impact these stories had when first encountered in print.Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd share personal reflections on what made each book resonate with them, offering insights on how the source material often dives deeper than its cinematic counterpart. From the cold elegance of Casino Royale by Ian Fleming to the raw introspection of Jarhead by Anthony Swofford, and from the spy thriller intensity of The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum to the timeless satire and romance of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, this episode covers a broad literary landscape. The conversation also spans cult classics and controversial adaptations, such as Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorpe—the basis for Die Hard—and American Hero by Larry Beinhart, the novel that inspired Wag the Dog. Add to that the gothic allure of Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice, the conspiracy-laced mystery of The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, the psychological depth of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, and the sweeping Southern drama of Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell, and you have an episode that's both literary and cinematic in scope.Whether you're a bookworm, a film buff, or both, Episode 416 invites you to revisit the books that first sparked your imagination—and perhaps gave you a new way to look at their movie counterparts.Tune in, turn the page, and talk nerdy with us.As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. This week we're continuing the journey through the Daniel Craig James Bond era with a review of Quantum of Solace (2008) — the fast-paced, emotionally charged follow-up to Casino Royale. Often seen as one of the more divisive entries in the Bond franchise, We revisit the film with a fresh perspective to break down its action, themes, and connection to the ongoing story of Bond's revenge and grief. To pair with this high-octane Bond chapter, We're tasting two premium bourbon releases: Russell's Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson F & Camp Nelson C. We share notes on flavor, contrast the two batches, and talk about what makes these rickhouse-specific Wild Turkey bourbons so special. Whether you're a bourbon lover, a Bond fan, or both, this episode hits hard and drinks smooth.
We're entering the Daniel Craig era of James Bond. Matt Lackey joins me once again to discuss Casino Royale (2006) — the explosive reboot that redefined James Bond for a new era, introducing us to Daniel Craig's grittier, more grounded 007.To pair with this intense and stylish Bond outing, I'm mixing up the iconic Vesper Martini using the original recipe from Ian Fleming's Casino Royale novel: “Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet…”We break down:The film's bold tone shift from previous Bond entriesHow Craig's Bond compares to those before himMy personal experience watching every James Bond film leading up to this oneThoughts on starting the Casino Royale novel and how it deepens my appreciation for the character and this adaptationWhether you're a longtime Bond fan or just getting into the franchise, this episode is packed with sharp insights, shaken cocktails, and Bond nostalgia.

In 1996, she made her film debut under the name Ivana Marina with a one-line role as a former girlfriend of Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire. In 1997, she followed up with a guest role on NBC's Seinfeld and made guest appearances on several other television shows, including Royal Pains and playing the love interest of John Casey on Chuck. A chaotic, shambolic and critically panned parody, the first on-screen incarnation of Ian Fleming's novel ‘Casino Royale' received its London premiere on 12th April, 1967 - with final edits still being made in the projection room. Nonetheless, it went on to take an extraordinary $40 million at the box office. Hardnut hero James Bond's adventures had become a swinging Sixties sex comedy starring Peter Sellers, thanks to Fleming's disasterous decision to sell the movie rights to actor Gregory Ratoff for a song long before Bond was known all around the world thanks to the highly succesful film versions of his later books ‘Dr No' and ‘From Russia With Love'. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly reveal how producer Charles K Feldman assembled such an impressive cast list for his 007 ensemble, including Orson Welles, Ronnie Corbett and Ursula Andress; explain how an on-set visit by Princess Margaret prompted an enormous clash of egos; and ponder why ‘the Spice World of the Sixties' became such a box office hit… Further Reading: • ‘Casino Royale movie review & film summary' (Roger Ebert, 1967): https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/casino-royale-1967 • ‘The Casino Royale calamity: how Peter Sellers turned Bond into a laughing stock' (Daily Telegraph, 2021): https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/casino-royale-calamity-peter-sellers-turned-bond-laughing-stock/ • ‘Casino Royale: Official Trailer' (MGM, 1967): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onhWav2DejM Love the show?
