In this episode, Alan Dunne is joined by Dario Perkins to examine why the global macro consensus may be fundamentally misreading the current cycle. The conversation moves from US fiscal stimulus and Federal Reserve credibility to the limits of the K-shaped economy narrative. Perkins challenges prevailing assumptions around AI-driven productivity, labor market weakness, and falling inflation, arguing that policy choices are pushing economies toward overheating rather than stagnation. The discussion extends to bond markets, term premia, Japan's normalization, Europe's fiscal pivot, and China's rebalancing dilemma. What emerges is a picture of renewed growth, rising risks, and a cycle whose ending is now becoming visible.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Alan on LinkedIn.Follow Dario on Twitter.Episode TimeStamps: 00:00 - Opening remarks and context02:25 - Global uncertainty and growth expectations05:00 - The K-shaped economy under scrutiny08:12 - Fiscal stimulus, tariffs, and timing effects11:07 - Fed independence and political pressure17:06 - The race to appoint the next Fed chair26:35 - Productivity data and the AI narrative35:51 - Labor market stall speed debate39:56 - Bond markets, term premia, and inflation risk46:03 - Japan's normalization and demographic...
#684: Most people search for the perfect portfolio — the one allocation that works in every market, at every age, for every goal. This interview starts by explaining why that portfolio does not exist. We talk with Cullen Roche, founder and chief investment officer of Discipline Funds, about why copying someone else's portfolio can backfire, and why portfolio design works better when it starts with your own constraints instead of rules of thumb. We walk through real portfolio models. The conversation begins with the classic 60-40 portfolio. You hear where it came from, how it held up during the Great Depression, and why it became so widely adopted. We also talk about its trade-offs — why it feels boring in strong markets and comforting in crashes, and how that emotional balance plays a role in investor behavior. Next, we shift to a Buffett-style portfolio. You hear why the takeaway is less about stock picking and more about structure. The discussion covers why Buffett keeps a small allocation to cash-like assets, how that “dry powder” functions during downturns, and why psychological stability matters as much as returns. The episode then turns to cash management. We talk about high-yield savings accounts, money market funds and Treasury bills. You hear how many cash products are built on T-bills, how banks capture part of the yield, and when managing cash directly may make sense. The concept of “T-bill and chill” comes up — along with when the extra effort may or may not be worth it. Finally, the conversation zooms out to time horizons. We discuss why income from a job functions like a bond allocation, how that changes risk capacity when you are younger, and why the early years of retirement carry the most danger. The episode closes by explaining sequence-of-returns risk and why portfolios need to work not just on paper, but in moments of fear. Long before FBI informant David Rupert set foot in Ireland, a hidden web of espionage was already embedded in the North. In this episode, investigative journalist and author Cara McGoogan looks beyond the headlines to examine the depth of British involvement inside IRA operations. Speaking with Bond novelist Charlie Higson, she unpacks why the agent known as Stakeknife looms so large in a recently released official report - and what the case reveals about a wider culture of collusion, protection, and unchecked power.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Mirror, Mirror: The Villains Who Reflect James Bond explores one of the most revealing ideas in the entire Bond franchise. James Bond villains are not true opposites of Bond. They are reflections. They are versions of Bond where a single restraint disappears. In this episode of Cracking the Code of Spy Movies, Dan and Tom examine some of Bond's greatest adversaries as mirrors rather than monsters. These villains share Bond's training, intelligence, and appetite for risk. What separates them is not skill. It is restraint. It is purpose. It is accountability. Using a clear "mirror framework," the episode shows how nearly every major Bond villain follows the same pattern. They share Bond's competence. They understand power and leverage. But they cross a moral line Bond refuses to cross. When the moment comes to stop, the villain continues. From Goldfinger, the Bond who breaks rules without limits, to Blofeld, the Bond who answers to no one, each antagonist reflects a path Bond could take. Largo reveals what Bond becomes without empathy. Scaramanga shows Bond without purpose, killing for identity instead of mission. Franz Sanchez exposes Bond's anger when loyalty and revenge replace duty. Silva mirrors Bond's trauma when emotional control collapses. Le Chiffre represents Bond before psychological armor hardens. The episode also dives deep into the importance of M as Bond's moral anchor. M represents structure, oversight, and restraint. Without M, Bond risks becoming indistinguishable from the villains he hunts. The Bond–M relationship transforms action into moral drama. It gives meaning to Bond's violence. It defines the ethical limits behind the famous license to kill. Drawing from Ian Fleming's own words, film dialogue, and character analysis across decades of Bond movies, this episode argues that Bond is not heroic because he is unstoppable. He is heroic because he stops. Mirror, Mirror: The Villains Who Reflect James Bond reframes the franchise through psychology, ethics, and character design. It explains why Bond villains matter. They ask the same question every time. Why not take the power for yourself? Bond's answer defines everything. Perfect for fans of James Bond, spy movies, film analysis, and character studies, this episode reveals why the mirror is the most dangerous weapon in Bond's world. Tell us what you think about this Mirror Mirror concept with Bond's villains Do you agree with us that James Bond is a mirror of his villains? Do you have other examples where we see this mirroring in the series? Let us know your thoughts, ideas for future episodes, and what you think of this episode. Today we talk to a PA who paid off $155,000 of student loans in just 16 months, entirely on her own. She did it by cutting expenses, living like a resident, and staying focused on rapid debt payoff. Along the way, she built an app to help herself stay organized and motivated, which later became a tool she could share with others. Most importantly, she explains why paying off debt quickly was not just a financial decision, but a key strategy for preventing burnout and protecting her long-term well-being. What if your fans could support you without ever losing money? In this episode, brothers Justin and Michael Blau break down how they're rethinking creator monetization with Bond, a platform where fans bond money to creators, get instant refunds anytime, and creators earn interest on that support. Justin has generated 6 billion streams and sold over 1 million tickets as a musician, yet he doesn't own any data on his fans. Michael spent years at A16Z Crypto seeing every creator economy experiment fail due to extraction and speculation. What does the law say about killing someone who was out on bond for alleged crimes against your child and then allegedly kidnapped her? What does it say about using a silencer to allegedly murder your ex-wife years after divorce? Defense attorney Bob Motta breaks down two cases that will test justification, premeditation, and reasonable doubt.Aaron Spencer is one week from trial. His daughter was 13 when Michael Fosler allegedly victimized her. Fosler faced 43 felony charges. He posted bond. Three months later, Spencer found his daughter in Fosler's truck at 1 AM and killed him with 16 shots. Prosecutors have body cam footage from months earlier where Spencer allegedly talked about handling things himself. The defense has Arkansas law — which puts the burden on prosecutors to disprove justification beyond a reasonable doubt.Dr. Michael McKee faces four counts of aggravated murder after prosecutors say he used a suppressor to kill Monique and Spencer Tepe while their children slept nearby. The indictment suggests premeditation down to the equipment. But there's no forced entry. No disclosed motive. No documented conflict in the years since the divorce. McKee gave an alibi that fell apart and only invoked silence after arrest.Motta analyzes both: the evidence, the legal standards, and what it takes to win when prosecutors have surveillance footage in one case and an alleged suppressor in the other. Two trials. Two juries. Two different questions about when killing is legally justified — and when reasonable doubt exists.#AaronSpencer #MichaelMcKee #MichaelFosler #MoniqueTepe #SpencerTepe #BobMotta #TrueCrimeToday #MurderTrial #DefenseStrategy #JustificationJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In a bombshell interview with Daniela Cambone, legendary market technician Michael Oliver issued a seismic warning: the financial system has crossed a threshold that will unleash a “violent,” vertical explosion in precious metals. With over four decades of experience and a famed call of the 1987 crash, Oliver declares the current rally is “not a normal bull market.” Instead, we have entered a “move to a new reality”—a sudden, multi-quarter repricing that will redefine the markets. The critical signal flashed in November, when silver violently broke a multi-year ceiling against gold. “When we look at prior instances of this behavior,” Oliver states, “it went vertical for a couple of quarters after that.” His momentum-based analysis now projects a breathtaking surge: silver rocketing to $300–$500 and gold soaring to $8,000.✅ FREE RESOURCESDownload The Private Wealth Playbook — a data-backed guide to strategically acquiring gold and silver for maximum protection, privacy, and performance. f you're a James Bond fan, you won't want to miss our latest episode: 20 Things You Missed in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. In this deep‑dive discussion, we uncover 20 Things You Missed in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE that even longtime Bond aficionados often overlook. From continuity errors to clever background details, cultural insights, filming quirks, and subtle storytelling decisions, this episode shines a spotlight on the hidden gems tucked inside the fifth Eon Productions Bond adventure. Hosted by Dan and Tom of Cracking the Code of Spy Movies, this episode explores everything from mispronunciations in NASA communications to Bond's surprising use of nicknames, mysterious wardrobe changes, and the unexpectedly impressive continuity work involving Bond's shoes and those hard‑to‑miss spats. You'll hear about set design details at Henderson's apartment, incorrectly repaired desk statues, and the symbolic use of the color orange to hint at Helga Brandt's dangerous duality. We also break down one of the most memorable sequences in the film: Little Nellie. From the autogyro's weapons to the number of helicopters chasing Bond, we uncover continuity oddities, filming inconsistencies, and blink‑and‑you‑miss‑them production shortcuts. The episode also dives into space capsule reflections, art replicas inside Blofeld's volcano lair, and the strange logic gaps surrounding Helga Brandt, Osato, and Bond's supposed "death." Dan and Tom bring context, humor, and historical insights to each moment—from the real‑life sumo wrestler and Samoan grappler who appear on screen, to the realistic but deadly phosgene gas used near the Ama fishing village. And of course, we explore the infamous volcano base itself. From improbable gadgets Bond suddenly possesses, to the dramatic (and scientifically questionable) destruction of the SPECTRE spacecraft. Plus, stay tuned for bonus observations on ninja entrances, frightened cats, references to Goldfinger, the Toyota 2000 GT convertibles made especially for the film, and clever audio design choices hidden throughout the final act. Whether you've seen the movie once or a hundred times, you'll walk away with brand‑new insights and a deeper appreciation for this iconic Bond classic. Join us for a fun, fast‑paced, detail‑packed episode that proves you really do only live twice—but you might need far more viewings to catch everything in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Tell us what you think about our look at 20 Things You Missed In YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE How many of these did you miss? What did we miss from the movie? And, importantly, how many guys do you see in the car at the beginning of the chase when Bond leaves Osato's office? What happens when you try to rank the Best Movies of This Century, one year at a time, with no safety net, no do-overs, and your family sitting right beside you? You get chaos, passion, nostalgia, and one of the most honest movie conversations we've ever recorded on Born to Watch. In this special episode, Matt is joined by two very special guests, his wife, Meagan, and his daughter, Bel, as they attempt the impossible task of selecting the single best movie from every year between 2000 and 2025. One movie per year. No ties (mostly). No backing out (occasionally). And absolutely no pretending bad sequels didn't happen.Starting at the turn of the millennium with Gladiator, the episode charts the evolution of modern cinema, from epic blockbusters and genre-defining franchises to animated classics, emotional dramas, and films that completely changed how audiences experienced movies in the cinema.Along the way, the discussion covers everything from the dominance of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Christopher Nolan's genre-bending run, the rise and fall of superhero cinema, Quentin Tarantino's most personal work, unforgettable cinema moments like Avengers: Endgame, and the films that defined family movie nights in the White household. This episode isn't just about critical acclaim or box office numbers. It's about how movies land, who they stay with, and why some films become comfort watches while others hit you once and never leave. Belle brings a brutally honest Gen-Z perspective, Meagan balances emotion and realism, and Matt does what he does best: overanalyses everything while defending Nolan, Denzel, and Ridley Scott at every opportunity. There are laughs, genuine disagreements, questionable parenting admissions, and more than a few moments where the word "sequel" becomes a four-letter swear word. You'll hear passionate defences of animated films, heated debates over Bond rankings, and reflections on how cinema changed after COVID reshaped the industry.Whether you agree with the picks or want to argue every single one, this episode is a celebration of why movies matter, why watching them together matters more, and why trying to rank the Best Movies of This Century is both completely ridiculous and absolutely essential.JOIN THE CONVERSATION Which movie should have made the list? What film defines your century so far? Did we get it right, or completely butcher it?Listen now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or at BornToWatch.com.au #PodcastAustralia #FamilyPodcast #CinemaHistory

She says she went to police in 2015. They told her no one would believe her. Two civil lawsuits now accuse Miller of sexually assaulting minors in the late 1990s.And then there's Chris Skinner — a quadriplegic Army veteran who drowned in 2021, two weeks after allegedly confronting Miller about an affair with his wife. ASSUNPINK CREEK, PRINCETON, AND INOCULATION Colleague Patrick O'Donnell. Following Trenton, many Marbleheaders returned home due to expired enlistments and starving families, but those who remained fought in the pivotal Battle of Assunpink Creek. Here, the Americans successfully held the bridge against elite British grenadiers before maneuvering to attack Princeton, where Washington bravely rode near the front lines. Recognizing the threat of smallpox, Washington ordered the mass inoculation of the army, a massive logistical feat overseen by Dr. Nathaniel Bond. Tragically, Bond died while performing this service, which O'Donnell views as one of Washington's greatest strategic decisions. NUMBER 71872
WASHINGTON'S NAVY AND THE LIFEGUARD Colleague Patrick O'Donnell. Upon arriving in Cambridge in July 1775, George Washington formed a close bond with the Marblehead Regiment, relying on them for security and expertise. Facing a desperate shortage of gunpowder, Washington utilized the Marbleheaders to create an impromptu navy; Captain John Manley successfully captured a British ordinance ship, delivering vital supplies. Washington also established the "Lifeguard" (Commander-in-Chief's Guard) to protect himself and his papers, appointing Marbleheader Caleb Gibbs as commander. The segment describes Beverly as a crucial, difficult-to-navigate port that protected these new cruisers from the Royal Navy. NUMBER 41870
