In the latest episode of the Disrupt Education podcast, hosts Alli and Peter interview AI expert Daniel Bevan. Bevan shares insights on how AI will require schools to level up their curriculum, likening its impact to that of the calculator. He also discusses how AI can serve as a personal assistant to students and how teachers are transitioning to become mentors rather than knowledge holders. Bevan provides examples of innovative ways that AI can be implemented in classrooms, such as using it to analyze student data and personalize learning experiences, or employing virtual assistants like chatbots to answer student questions. He emphasizes the importance of data privacy and ethical considerations when using AI in education. Throughout the conversation, Bevan stresses that AI should not replace human interaction and that teachers will continue to play a critical role in education. Instead, AI should be viewed as a tool to enhance the learning experience and enable students to become more self-directed learners. Overall, the podcast provides valuable insights into the potential of AI in education and the need for schools to adapt to this rapidly evolving technology. Alli and Peter lead an engaging and thought-provoking conversation that highlights the opportunities and challenges presented by AI for the future of education. In this episode, I speak to Daniel Bevan. Dan is an aspiring journalist from Cardiff, who has worked with the BBC and with Cardiff TV to report on some big stories. The main topics of this raw conversation were social media, drugs and addictions. I also add in a book recommendation for people looking to start reading and spending less time online. Enjoy.

I love it when I meet like-minded people who challenge the standard way of doing things.  After all, if we want to achieve more impact, by definition we have to change the way we are doing things now—or at least question them.  My guests today are founders of the social enterprise “United Edge”, and they happen to be in Dili doing a training among other things on “Leadership for Impact.”  Matt Kletzing and Daniel Bevan have a combined 15 years’ experience working for a variety of humanitarian organizations before deciding they wanted to influence aid workers to take an alternative model to development, one they are calling the “Justice Based Approach.”  They will explain more about this in the interview, as well as a few practical ways we as leaders can make more impact on ourselves, our teams and our organizations. A few highlights: Definition of a “Justice Based Approach” as an additional lense to the “Human Rights Based Approach” to development -           Examples of “walking our talk” as leaders in international development -          Determining what has the biggest impact that we can do as an individual and making that change -          Definition of “Leadership for Impact” – not only meeting needs of community but looking at ourselves, our organizations and the world -          How to provide permission to fail -          How to become a more thoughtful leader -          How hierarchies can add to the problem of limiting innovation and staff empowerment Resources: -          United Edge site -          Mindfulness resources -          Everyday Feminism FB page
