We explore motherhood without perfectionism, raising resilient children in a fragile culture, letting go of wellness neurosis, and trusting the innate intelligence of the body. Welcome to episode #1011 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). We tend to romanticize leadership as an act of personal brilliance, but the deeper story is often about the people who understand what truly moves human beings toward one another. Jon Levy has built a career around that question. A renowned human behavioral scientist, consultant and creator of the long-running Influencers Dinner - a global, invitation-only experiment where guests cook together anonymously to dissolve status cues and foster authentic connection - Jon has spent over fifteen years studying why people bond, collaborate and trust. His work has brought Olympians, Nobel laureates, astronauts, CEOs, creators, and even political leaders into the same kitchen, all guided by his curiosity about what helps human beings unlock their best collective instincts. Jon is also the author of The 2 AM Principle and You're Invited, books that explore adventure, belonging, and the science of human connection. His newest book, Team Intelligence - How Brilliant Leaders Unlock Collective Genius, extends this exploration into the workplace, challenging long-held assumptions about leadership, performance, and why great teams succeed. In this conversation, Jon talks through the surprising behaviors that shape genuine relationships, the role anonymity plays in reducing status pressure, the misconceptions organizations hold about star performers, the importance of emotional intelligence, and why bonus structures often undermine collaboration. He touches on the future of hybrid work, the psychology of status, the gap between individual excellence and team effectiveness, and the small but essential habits that allow groups to think more clearly and solve problems more intelligently. Above all, the discussion offers a window into the mind of someone who has spent his career studying how people come together, and how leaders can create the conditions for teams to do their best thinking. Welcome to the DMF!I'm Justin Younts, and in this episode, Sara Alessandrini opens up about the chaotic and often brutal world of documentary filmmaking.Sara walks us through the challenges she faced while creating her documentary — challenges that went far beyond the expected hurdles of production. She dealt with legal threats, bullying, and intense pushback from some of the very people she interviewed. What was meant to be a creative pursuit quickly revealed the darker, more hostile side of the industry.Throughout the episode, Sara explains how she navigated these obstacles: managing aggressive interviewees, protecting herself legally, and fighting tirelessly to get her film accepted into festivals. She shares the emotional toll the project took on her and the determination she needed to keep her vision alive despite the odds stacked against her.For Sara, this journey wasn't just about making a film — it became a test of strength, resilience, and integrity. She discusses the importance of due process, the complexities of handling real stories responsibly, and what it means to stand your ground in a competitive and often unforgiving industry. If you're an aspiring filmmaker or simply curious about the behind-the-scenes realities of documentary production, this episode offers raw insight, hard-earned lessons, and inspiration to keep pushing forward no matter the challenges.Join us as Sara pulls back the curtain on the truth, the chaos, and the courage it takes to tell a story that matters.00:00:01 - Introduction00:00:06 - The Role of Politicians00:00:42 - The Making of the Documentary00:01:30 - Challenges in the Film Industry00:01:49 - The Process of Making a Documentary00:01:59 - The Impact of Bullying in the Film Industry00:02:02 - The Fight for Ownership of the Documentary00:02:14 - The Transition from a Documentary to a Mini Series00:02:25 - The Release and Reception of the Documentary00:02:36 - The Politics Behind the Documentary00:04:09 - Legal Challenges and Threats00:04:32 - The Screening of the Documentary00:08:01 - The Confrontation at the Film Festival00:09:08 - The Aftermath and Ongoing Legal Issues00:10:39 - The Attempt to Sabotage the Documentary00:11:18 - The Aftermath of the Screening00:11:43 - The New Documentary Project00:12:16 - The Motives Behind the New Documentary00:12:45 - The Scam Behind the New Documentary00:13:16 - The Desire for Fame and Recognition00:14:00 - The Misunderstanding of the Role of a Producer00:15:06 - The Reality of the Movie Industry00:15:11 - The Problem of Unfinished Movies00:15:25 - The Misuse of Funds in Film Production00:15:40 - The Need for Legal Protection in the Film Industry00:16:04 - The Issue with Personal Motives in Film Production00:16:29 - The Miscommunication of Risk in Film Funding00:16:50 - The Misrepresentation of Film Producers00:18:00 - The Influence of Current Events on Documentary Editing00:19:38 - The Challenges of Editing a Documentary00:21:09 - The Process of Distributing a Documentary00:22:03 - The Role of Aggregators in Film Distribution00:22:57 - The Decision to Self-Distribute00:23:51 - The Process of Getting a Documentary Approved for Distribution00:24:42 - The Role of AI in Film Editing00:28:32 - The Future Plans of the Filmmaker00:30:34 - Daily Routine and Meditation00:31:37 - Physical Fitness and Sports00:32:26 - Reading and Family History00:33:25 - Music Preference00:33:40 - Watching Habits and Recent Movies00:35:22 - Contact InformationCheck out Sara's website, where you can learn more about the documentary miniseries and find links to watch it! https://www.thisiswhatnewyorkerssay.com https://www.instagram.com/lasava.alessandrini/

Impact investor Tom Chi challenges a dangerous assumption: that economic growth and ecological health are opposing forces. He reveals how advances in AI and robotics are enabling a radical shift towards innovation as a force for restoration. Imagine mines that extract less, farms that regenerate soil and fleets of robots that can plant 100,000 mangroves in a single day. What if the same technologies that power our economy could actively repair the planet at the same time? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The fascinating intersections of circadian biology, quantum health, and women's wellness really come alive as I sit down with Neurosurgeon-turned-Quantum-Biologist Dr. Jack Kruse. You'll hear how simple things, like the light you see first thing in the morning, quietly shape your hormones, energy, and even how you age. Dr. Jack's decades of surgical and biophysical knowledge make these concepts surprisingly practical for everyday health. By the end, you may find yourself rethinking your daily routines in the best way.   Together, we get into why AM sunlight can make such a big difference for women going through hormonal changes, especially around menopause. Dr. Jack breaks down big ideas like heteroplasmy in simple, eye-opening terms and shows how it plays into skin health, longevity, and mitochondrial function. You'll also hear why red light deserves a place in your wellness routine, and how blue light and non-native EMFs might be draining more than just your battery.   If you've ever struggled with weight changes, low energy, or hormonal shifts, you'll appreciate Dr. Jack's explanation of the leptin-melanocortin pathway and what it means for women at every age. His own 150-pound weight-loss story adds real heart to the science and shows how much can change when your environment starts working for you instead of against you. This episode delivers a mix of empowering insights and simple shifts you can start today for better vitality.   And before you go, make sure to download my Free Holiday Recipe Guide, a delicious, hormone-friendly way to enjoy festive, Keto-Green dishes all season long at dranna.com.   Key Timestamps: [00:00:00] Introduction. Summary In this episode, Andy talks with Dr. Craig Mattson, professor of communication and author of Digital Overwhelm: A Mid-Career Guide to Coping at Work. Rather than encouraging digital detoxing or escaping technology, Craig offers a refreshing way to understand and navigate the pressures of modern work. He introduces the idea of digiwhelm, explains why so much of our stress comes from the communication modes we inhabit, and shows how leaders can respond with intention rather than overload. You will hear Craig describe why email can be more than information transfer, how mode switching differs from context switching, and why one-way communication sometimes matters more than dialogue. Craig also shares why signals like silence, gestures, and tone often communicate more than words. Before closing, he draws connections to life at home, offering ideas for families that feel overwhelmed by devices and demands. If you are looking for practical insights to reduce digital overwhelm, improve communication, and lead with greater clarity and calm, this episode is for you! In this special episode, we welcome back Lindsay Whorton, President of the Holdsworth Center, to discuss her new book, A New School Leadership Architecture: A Four-Level Framework for Reimagining Roles. We dive into why the current model for school leadership is unsustainable and explore a new framework for building capacity and driving results in Texas public schools and beyond. The Holdsworth Center is a nonprofit focused on building and strengthening leaders for Texas public schools. Texas educates 10% of the nation's children, and the challenges faced there—like high teacher turnover and the increased complexity of the principal and superintendent roles—reflect national trends. Lindsay explains that we have created leadership roles that are "pretty close to impossible" for an average person. A core mistake is the assumption that if educators simply work harder and build the right skills, everything will be fine. We argue that the old model of the principal as the single "hero" responsible for the development of all 30-40 teachers must evolve. Lindsay's framework offers a way to diagnose and restructure leadership roles to create shared leadership and meaningful stepping stones for development. It's about getting clear on the different leadership jobs and how they relate, moving away from an unhelpful hierarchy and toward an ethos of sharing power. Key Takeaways: The Impossible Job: The current principal role, where one person is the primary developer for an entire staff of 30-40+ teachers, is unsustainable, especially with new teachers entering the profession with limited preparation. The Four-Level Framework: The book outlines a four-level architecture—Team Member, Team Leader, Bridge Leader, and School Leader (Principal)—each with a unique leadership mission for building capacity and delivering results . The Bridge Leader: This key middle layer is vital for coaching Team Leaders, ensuring coherence, and connecting the different levels of the school. It also creates meaningful, smaller-jump development opportunities for future principals. A Shift in Identity: Moving into new leadership roles requires not just new skills and time allocation but a fundamental shift in professional identity, often requiring leaders to "release control" and trust their colleagues. AI and the Human Core: As technology changes the future of work, cultivating the "most human" skills—like recognizing the beautiful, feeling confident, and building relational capacity—becomes even more critical in education. Why You Should Listen: If you work in education, you understand the increasing pressure on school leaders and teachers. This conversation offers a practical, thoughtful, and evidence-based way to rethink your school's operating structure, unlock the untapped leadership potential (the "stranded brilliance" we discuss) in your building, and create a system where success doesn't depend on "superheroes". We provide a blueprint for supporting your current staff while developing the next generation of resilient school leaders. The P word. Purpose. After putting out more than 170 episodes in the past two years, I finally needed a break. The fall has been a rocky road, one of my favorite ice cream flavors, but also a tough stretch mentally. So I stepped back, went into the mountains, left the watch at home, and spent real time reconnecting with why I love moving through the outdoors.I talk about losing the sense of purpose that was so clear every single day on the Appalachian Trail FKT, and what it feels like when that structure vanishes overnight. I get into distraction, mental health, being overwhelmed by the noise of the world, and how easy it is to tear people down online. I also share why purpose matters, how I tried to find mine again, and how getting outside remains the one environment where I can think clearly, communicate honestly, and feel grounded. Then we jump into Trail TMZ. A wild update on the Grand Teton FKT switchback case, including the surprise presidential pardon that shook trail running. A Badwater 135 movie in the works with a Hollywood star attached. Montana State football chaos. After decades of treating athletes and employees across 700 companies, retirement hit harder than he expected until he found his next mission.Instead of coasting, Dr. Khanna came back to build CompCore Pro, a software company that helps businesses save millions by fixing the broken workers' compensation system. His company acts as a bridge between doctors, employers, and insurance carriers; cutting delays, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring injured employees get the right care faster and more affordably. We dive into how he turned boredom into a billion-dollar problem to solve, why the healthcare system is collapsing under middlemen, and how staying curious and purpose-driven is the real antidote to burnout.Dr. Khanna also breaks down the state of American health, from our sedentary lifestyles to the rise of convenience culture, and what both founders and everyday people can do to reverse it.You'll learn: ✅ Why chasing retirement can leave you emptier than you expect ✅ How to rebuild purpose after “success” ✅ What's broken in America's healthcare system (and how he's fixing it) ✅ How CompCore Pro is helping companies cut costs and care for employees faster ✅ Why curiosity and contribution matter more than comfortIf you've been searching “what to do after selling your business,” “how to find purpose after success,” or “why retirement isn't what it seems,” this episode delivers the truth. Our guest on this week's episode is Kraig Foreman, president of eCommerce at DHL Supply Chain. While stores are already showing the Christmas spirit with all of their beautiful decorations and being crammed with lots of inventory – peak season has not officially kicked off yet. But it will next week with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After a tumultuous year for supply chains – are retailers prepared to handle the most wonderful time of the year? Our guest today joins Victoria Kickham with some insights.  While many industries are struggling to realize value from AI, transportation appears to be ahead of the curve, according to Breakthrough, which is a Wisconsin-based provider of transportation and supply chain solutions for shippers. That result came from the company's “Peak Shipping Season Pulse,” a survey of 300 industry decision-makers. The report found that 49% of U.S. transportation leaders say artificial intelligence reshaped how they managed this year's Q4 peak season rush.According to a survey of more than 400 U.S. warehouse associates, most view robotics and automation as a benefit to their careers and livelihoods. The survey was conducted by global warehouse robotics provider Exotec and is detailed in the company's recent “Warehouse Workers Sentiment Report: Understanding the Impact of Automation on Retention and Satisfaction.” Company leaders said the survey reveals a “surprisingly strong embrace of robotics” on the warehouse floor, with a majority of respondents saying they are interested in working with robots. Supply Chain Xchange  also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane.  It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. Stephanie Tinsley created the true crime podcast, Everything They Missed. It is about the 2007 savage murder of Danny Harris in Memphis, a father of four, two of them Memphis police officers. Mr. Harris's body was left unnoticed and decomposing in his home for 2 months. The case was closed suspiciously and within 48 hours, police zeroed in on a 24-year-old black man, Andrew Hayes with a 3rd grade level IQ, who had never met the victim. After a 27-hour unrecorded interrogation, Andrew confessed. The Tennessee Innocence Project now calls that confession false, but for 18 years, Andrew has remained in prison.  Tinsley's show  uncovered new evidence that may exonerate the man. Stephanie is married to attorney Mark Tinsley. Mark's name is familiar to Impact listeners due to his involvement with the Alex Murdaugh trial and the Scott Spivey case. In this episode of Cosmosis, Kelly and Jay sit down with someone who has become a true kindred spirit on their path: Daniel Noah, co-founder of SpectreVision, filmmaker, experiencer, and the creative force behind the new High Strangeness comic series. This conversation moves through the deep waters where creativity, anomalous experience, and vocation meet. Daniel opens up about his lifelong relationship with horror and the supernatural, his unexpected awakening as an experiencer, and how that realization reshaped both his inner world and his creative life. He shares what it meant to come out publicly as an experiencer, the responsibility he now feels to others on the path, and why art—and vulnerability—are central to making sense of the anomalous. Together, Kelly, Jay, and Daniel explore: How SpectreVision grew from an indie genre studio into a multiformat home for creators working at the edges of experience Why paranormal phenomena resist traditional narrative structure—and what that means for artists The surprising synchronicities behind Daniel's work on High Strangeness Creativity as a channel for contact, transmission, and the “central source” John Keel wrote about The emotional reality of being a public experiencer, and the mission that quietly forms around those called into this work Daniel's reflections on SpectreVision's newest film, Rabbit Trap, and its unsettling, initiatory portrait of fairy loreYou'll also hear about Kelly's essay on synchronicity for issue #3 of High Strangeness, the story that changed the trajectory of her entire life, and how collaborative creativity has opened new doors for all three of them. This is one of our most intimate and expansive conversations—an exploration of what happens when artists stop compartmentalizing the anomalous and instead allow it to shape their work, their worldview, and their calling. In this episode of The Deep, Erika discusses the rise and fall of climate alarmism. She dives into the history of the "global warming" apocalypse narrative, and turns to John Paul II to gain a proper human-centered approach to environmentalism. Where is God present—and how do believers describe it? In this thoughtful and poetic episode, Polish theologian Dr. Elżbieta Łazarewicz-Wyrzykowska joins Dru Johnson to reflect on theology, trauma, and spiritual presence. From her childhood in Warsaw—where bullet holes and tanks marked the legacy of war—to her academic path through Hebrew Bible, literary theory, and empirical psychology, Elżbieta has never stopped asking difficult questions. They discuss her research into the Book of Amos using the philosophical insights of Mikhail Bakhtin, seeing God as the “author” of Israel and disobedience as a form of anti-creation. They also explore her current interdisciplinary work in the psychology of religion: “We tried to measure where people locate God's presence. Eucharist was the one thing people named first.” She reflects on the tension between empirical categories and theological meaning: “God is present in special objects” didn't resonate. But “God is present in the Eucharist”? That made sense. “I still wanted to be faithful to what the community told me.” This episode is a masterclass in humility, scholarship, and the quiet brilliance of a scholar working at the intersection of Scripture, philosophy, trauma, and pastoral care. Oregon consistently ranks near the bottom of the country in terms of access to treatment for substance use disorders. Portland-based Boulder Care seeks to address that by providing telehealth and medically assisted treatment options. The company launched in 2017 and has been based in Portland since 2019. Its aim is to normalize this kind of treatment and make it available in the first days or hours when a person with substance use disorder decides they want to get help. Dr. Honora Englander, who directs the Improving Addiction Care Team (IMPACT) at Oregon Health and Science University, says access to telehealth and medication for opioid use disorder is an important part of addressing the huge and multifaceted problem of substance use disorder. Englander and Strong both participated in the industry-wide AMERSA conference held in Portland last week, and they join us in studio to discuss more about evidence-based approaches to in-patient and out-patient care for people dealing with addiction.
