This week's episode is about a certain 20th century Hungary writer named István Örkény. He was born in 1912, which puts his youth straight through the two world wars and the handful of regime changes that transfigured Hungary and ultimately settled as the communist regime under János Kádár, which was still in place when Örkény died in 1979. He was a shockingly prolific writer and dramatist, even by Hungarian standards. He worked in many genres, but what makes him singular from other Hungarian pens, is that he concocted a genre of his own: The One-Minute Story.
