POPULARITY
Joining the dots between Berlin, Barcelona and Banyoles is no simple feat. The three don't tend to align in all circumstances by any stretch of the imagination. However, it is across these three town's that Pau Encinas has produced some of the most riveting and intriguing electronic music of his career. As Cauto he has released music through many channels including on DJ Rupture's Dutty Artz. However, it is his most recent work, an album for Disboot, which saw him deliver his most accomplished release to date. It was the culmination of hard work, experimentation and struggle. He combined worldly percussion with hazy soundscapes and organic instrumentation. Emotive and powerful it was very strong. We caught up with Pau as he contributes to our Monday mix series.

Mixpak FM 093 is brought to you by Brooklyn-based DJ & producer, Riobamba. Inspired by her Ecuadorian-Lithuanian heritage, her sets and productions draw from a hybridized global sound, with a strong Latin leaning. As promoter of one of Boston's leading underground parties, Pico Picante, resident at Remezcla's NY party Perreo, and an affiliate of Dutty Artz, she is a strong representative for transnational bass on the East Coast. Her Mixpak FM is a showcase of the global underground, featuring many kindred club spirits operating in the same zone: False Witness, Santa Muerte and Kala as well as offerings from NON, Baltimore artist Abdu Ali, and Chile's Tomas Urquieta.
Alright, getting to squeeze one more in before we close out 2015. What a year it been! So much has happened. I went to Brazil. I watched one rocket blow up and another one land. I listened to a ton of music and went to a lot of show. Most importantly for me, I witnessed the miracle of child birth once again. Let me tell you, three kids is no joke folks. But, getting to the matter at hand, what’s in store for the podcast today? Well, you want to know what is going to form the backbone of the soundtrack for my New Years party? No, not drum and bass though that will be playing in the side room. It’s that latin thing that I just keep coming back to. I don’t have a good name for it as it encompasses so many sounds but there are three labels that are the foundation for me. First of course must be ZZK based in Buenos Aires followed by Wonderwheel Recording and Dutty Artz both in Brooklyn, hence the podcast title. These are by no means the only players however. And equally important are the local latin dance parties bringing the sound to life by delivering to people on the dancefloor: Peligrosa (Austin), Subsuelo (LA), Club Zizek (Buenos Aires), Que Bajo (Brooklyn), Tormenta Tropica (SF), etc. This one has been in the works for a while and I'm so happy to finally get it out to you. I always really like everything I play but this one is particularly special and I can’t think of a better way to close out 2015.Get involved. Let me know what you think and what you're listening to. Jahdan Blakkamoore emigrated from Guyana to Brooklyn at age eight. He grew up on reggae imports and made an early mark as a standout performer in New York's hip-hop and dancehall scenes. Since then he's teamed up with Dutty Artz producers Shadetek and DJ/rupture to melt grime, dubstep, cumbia, and other styles into the sound of his debut album Buzzrock Warrior. Whether accompanied by a DJ or performing with his band Noble Society, Jahdan finds joy in music and aims to share that joy with his audience.
