I've been fanboying over Kelly for years, ever since I read her book "A Mind of Your Own" and learned about the dangers of hormonal contraception (specifically "the pill") and their propensity to foster or worsen mood and depressive disorders. Her work is truly revolutionary, yet it's shockingly simple. While her approach is simple - diet, movement, sleep, meditation, and other lifestyle modifications - this work is never simple, but her clients rave about the outcomes. Mark Groves is one of the greatest new friends that I made in 2021. He's a former pharmaceutical rep-turned connection and relationship expert. In this episode we bounce from community and connection to self-knowing to building a better world. If we don't know ourselves, then how can we support others? If we can't sit with our own pain, how can we attend the pain of those we hold dearest? In birth and in death, there is a transformation of spirit. You don't get a vote as to how or when these things events unfold; the only thing we can control is how we spend our time from now until then. If I had a choice, I would be spending more time with people like Mark. This was one of my favorite interviews so far! That's when I found Robb's first book "The Paleo Solution", and his research and gift with words has lived in perpetuity in my own life and the care I bring to my patients and clients. His new book "Sacred Cow: The Case for (Better) Meat: Why Well-Raised Meat Is Good for You and Good for the Planet" is co-authored with another thoughtful food scientist, Diana Rodgers, RD. In her early twenties, Kirsti Pratt learned firsthand the importance of an integrated, individualized health program. I competed as an athlete on American Ninja Warrior, and she was working 60 to 70 hours a week. Running on empty —literally and figuratively— she soon hit rock bottom and burned out. Struggling with G.I. issues, self-confidence, worthiness, depression, anxiety, mental fog, codependency, and physical aches and pains, she turned her focus inward to begin unpacking the underlying causes of her discomfort. Through her studies with the world-renowned CHEK Institute, she began a deep healing journey that originated from within. She recognized that her lifestyle choices, habitual behaviors and belief patterns that were holding her back from reaching her true potential. She was able to see the common thread woven into these patterns, gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of balance and integration between her mental, emotional, physical, energetic, and spiritual health.
