Shadow Monster is the Bushwick, Brooklyn-based duo of Gillian Visco and John Swanson who play a potent sort of grunge-inflected indie rock. With heavy lyrical themes dealing with loss, depression, and isolation, there’s a tension just under the surface of their music that explodes into a cathartic big-riffed, hair-whipping frenzy. The band dropped by Serious Business Music to give us a taste of their awesomeness in this session. Punching Bag is out now from Dadstache Records. 00:00 - Shadow Monster 00:42 - Good Will 04:01 - Interview - Shadow Monster 07:10 - Temporary Love 10:00 - Interview - Shadow Monster 12:00 - Dog 15:19 - Interview - Shadow Monster 16:29 - Kill Me Sweetie 20:28 - Interview - Shadow Monster 24:01 - Punching Bag 26:36 - Interview - Shadow Monster 33:32 - Outro 33:59 - Finish

It's so much fun to have a band on Dr. Lisa ! Gillian Visco and John Swanson of Shadow Monster spend time with me at the RFB studio., the day before their album from Dadstash Records launches and they honor RFB by releasing a song from Punching Bag, their new album: Kill Me Sweetie. Here's what Gillian writes about her new album.: "Punching Bag is an album about betrayal and isolation. It's about being so heartbroken that you lose yourself. It's about depression and loneliness, anxiety and panic. It's about a hunger so insatiable and unshakeable that a part of you has to completely die in order to move on. I hope it can be a source of comfort for anyone going through a rough patch - because it was built on one." Anyways - we talk about the relationship that they album is based on and I have to say, I think Gillians processing her relationship through this work has been very healing for her. We also chat about the bands creative process, play some more of the music from the new album and basically have a blast. Really like Gillian's no bullshit attitude here! Btw: It's on
Shadow Monster is an angsty and loud duo from Bushwick, Brooklyn. Gillian Visco's gritty, dissonant and desperate guitar riffs meet with John Swanson's epic and explosive drumming style to form a raw and moody version of grunge rock. Lyrically, Shadow Monster explores themes of loss, depression and isolation. For fans of Elliott Smith, Waxahatchee, Nirvana, Helium. http://www.theshadowmonster.com/ Artist name | Song name Jamie Garamella | The Rodent Hour Theme Song Shadow Monster | Temporary Love Good in the Dark | If You Feel It Darkwing | Right Into Joy Shadow Monster | Punching Bag Zip-Tie Handcuffs | Meteor QWAM | Buy a Toy Shadow Monster | Gimme Some Shadow Monster | Out Of My Mind The Pink Tiles | Simply The Rodent Hour plays independent rock ‘n' roll from Brooklyn & beyond.
