In episode 280 of the podcast, we're joined in person by legendary Maine musician, Dave Gutter. We dig into his nearly 40 years as a musician, his numerous projects, including Rustic Overtones, Paranoid Social Club, Armies and more, working with/winning a Grammy writing a song for Aaron Neville, and his fabulous new solo record ‘The Music Industry is Trying to Kill Me'. There is so much that went into this convo, from our early love of Rustic Overtones, to Dave's continuous work as a very talented and very underrated songwriter, and everything in between. From just the look of Big Break, David Drake's third and latest hour, you might be surprised that Drake has helped build an entire corner of NYC comedy through the hallowed ground of The Gutter in Brooklyn (that also happens to be a lovely bowling alley). Between CYSKNYC and his multiple hour special in the space, Drake has gotten himself into rarefied air of making 80 minutes of stand-up very, very enjoyable. This show is brought to you in association with iDealwine. English county Essex is better known for its brash behaviour (and certain reality TV shows) than its beautiful wines. But is all that about to change?!For long, Essex was England's best kept wine secret. The grapes were sold off to producers from Kent to Cornwall, which meant their Essex origin sailed under the radar. But then came the investment - both from ambitious local families and then, in 2023, from the highly regarded US wine producer Jackson Family Wines (JFW). Nowadays, some postcodes in Essex have the highest concentration of individual vineyards anywhere in the UK. Vineyard prices are not far off those in Marlborough, New Zealand. Essex has gone from zero to wine hero in the blink of an eye, with classy still (rather than sparkling) wines the forté, particularly Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. So could Essex end up challenging the likes of Sancerre and Burgundy?!We get the lowdown from Charlie Holland, who's heading up JFW's ambitious English wine project, plus 'Mr Essex viticulture' Duncan McNeill and Chris Wilson of acclaimed Cambridge urban winery Gutter&Stars. We also give our verdict on a (surprisingly wide) range of Essex wines, including JFW's debut release (Marbury Chardonnay). And yes, the words, 'new dimension' are uttered. Thanks for tuning in. We love to hear from you so please do get in touch! Send us a voice message via Speakpipe. Send us a textFresh out after serving four years in juvenile detention, rising Staten Island drill artist Debo (@Debo2Oppyy) pulls no punches in this candid conversation about his journey, controversies, and future plans. With seven months of freedom under his belt, he's wasting no time reclaiming his spot in the local music scene.Debo dismisses swirling rumors about incidents during his incarceration with a casual shrug, calling them just "jail work" while revealing how he beat an attempted murder charge through what he describes as a case of mistaken identity. His matter-of-fact approach to discussing serious subjects reveals a young artist who's been through the system and emerged with clear-eyed determination to move forward. The conversation shifts between musical aspirations and street realities as Debo discusses his upcoming tracks "Every Opp Shot" and "Response, Part 1," alongside his selective approach to features. "I'm not a fan," he states bluntly, establishing his confidence in his own abilities while setting boundaries around collaboration. When pressed about relationships with other Staten Island gang members, Debo maintains clear distinctions: "We're not the same thing. They are a different unit." His respect remains reserved for a select group of peers including Marsha SB, CP, and Mouladi, while dismissing older generation artists from the borough.Whether you're familiar with Staten Island's evolving drill scene or simply appreciate raw, unfiltered artist perspectives, this conversation offers a window into the mindset of a young creator navigating the complex intersection of music, street life, and personal growth. Medial gutter impingement may compromise the results of an otherwise well-fixed total ankle arthroplasty (TAA), but no previous study has assessed predisposing factors. This case-control study sought to investigate potential risk factors and the role of talar component downsizing in decreasing medial impingement. In conclusion, talar component downsizing correlated with an 82% reduction in the probability of medial gutter impingement. Postoperative varus alignment, an elevated joint line level, and medially translated and internally rotated talar component were more prevalent in patients reoperated for medial impingement. Mike Smith is the gritty, no-frills voice behind The Gutter Gospel, a raw and powerful memoir that dives headfirst into the trenches of addiction, redemption, and self-discovery. With unflinching honesty and a poet's soul, Mike captures the reality of life on the edge, offering readers both a cautionary tale and a story of hope. Our interview with Mike was nothing short of real. He brought the same energy and authenticity that flows through his writing — unpolished, passionate, and deeply reflective. We talked about his early struggles, the moments that turned his life around, and how writing became a lifeline. Mike doesn't sugarcoat anything, and that's what makes him so compelling — whether he's sharing a story from the street or a lesson from recovery, you can feel every word.
