Please rate & review The Movies on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever else you listen to the show!---Maximina Juson's ONE PERSON, ONE VOTE? looks to demystify the electoral college. From examining slavery's influence on its inception to recounting the abuses of said system committed in the pursuit of political power, the documentary advocates for civic education and participation. Remember what GI Joe taught us: knowledge is power. The documentary jumps between evocative animated dramatizations of the Constitutional Convention and election past, black-and-white readings of words from the delegates of said convention performed by an all-Black cast (which, if you think about how these men regarded their ancestors as inhuman, serves as a sort of beautiful "Fuck you" to history), fly-by profiles of four Colorado electors during the 2020 presidential election and a series of talking head interviews.I appreciate each of these elements individually, but their assembly leaves me even more confused about how to approach the electoral college this year. Is the system the problem or are the corner-cutting dirty fuckers, as Dave Hause eloquently puts it, abusing said system the culprits we should place the blame on? I think I'm looking for a more even spread in terms of how to handle the electoral college but this movie's definitely planted its flag in team "National Popular Vote."Not to say I'm against the movement but I could've used some more math. What happens if you redo the 2020 election as a popular vote? How does the math change which states gain the most influence? I think that would improve this movie's case. In the meantime, I'm gonna go rewatch THE WEST WING.--- Follow The Movies on - Twitter: @TheMovies_Pod Facebook: The Movies
S7E23 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 6 June 2024. South Africa is a buzz with the sound of election results being counted so while we wait for that we rocked out with all the best Rock and Metal we could squeeze into 3 hours. Hope you enjoy the show. The evolution of the Foo Fighters, continued, this weeks track was the ‘Best of You'. Twisted Triplets featured tracks called ‘Forever Young'. Overdrivers, Def Leppard and of course Bob Dylan gave us their songs by that name. Immortals this week came from Jethro Tull, a track off Aqualung called ‘My God' The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘W'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Warrant – Cherry PieWolfmother – WolfmotherWhitesnake – 1987W.A.S.P. – W.A.S.P. S7E22 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 30 May 2024. South Africa is a buzz with the sound of election results being counted so while we wait for that we rocked out with all the best Rock and Metal we could squeeze into 3 hours. I hope you enjoy the show. The evolution of the Foo Fighters, continued, this week's track was ‘All My Life' off the One By One album released in 2002. This week's Twisted Triplets featured tracks called ‘The Reckoning'. The Cult, Judas Priest, and Brides of Destruction did the honours. Immortals this week came from Great White and a wonderful track, clocking in at 7:23, off their Psycho City album. The track was ‘Old Rose Motel' and it was a pleasure to listen to Mark Kendall wailing away, such a great guitarist. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘V'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. S7E21 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 23 May 2024. It was busy as always, something for everyone. Just a note, 4 min from the end when I say goodnight the mic cuts out for some reason so there is a short gap before the outro track, Imagine someone saying who the previous tracks were, and thanks for listening, and be careful out there. In Evolutions we continue to look at the evolution of the Foo Fighters, this week's track was ‘Learning To Fly'. The Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘The Reckoning'. The first one came from Dee Snider and the second one came from Halestorm. Immortals this week came from Deep Purple, the track was ‘Mistreated' off the Burn album. I doubt anyone will argue about its Immortal status. Richie Blackmore wrote it just before he left the band and David Coverdale sang it on the Burn album where this version comes from. Blackmore took it with him to Rainbow and Ronnie James Dia did it justice for many years. I had the pleasure of hearing Glenn Hughes do it solo on acoustic guitar with Kings of Chaos at Sun City. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘U'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Ugly Kid Joe – America's Least WantedUFO – Lights OutUriah Heep – Look at YourselfU2 – Achtung Baby Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's picks of the week were Dave Hause's ‘Pedal Down' and Dire Straits with ‘Sultans of Swing'. Good news on the Google Play Podcast issue if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music. I got a message from them kindly telling me that I could transfer all my Podcasts including The Story of Rock and Roll to the YouTube Music platform. It was dead simple it all moved across in about 30 seconds. All the TSORR shows are there and it all works great. You should get one too if you use Google for TSORR Podcasts. Just follow the steps. S7E18 went out on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 25 May 2024. It was nice to be back doing a live show and chatting to all the wonderful people on TSORR Central. We kicked off with Metallica and ‘The Struggle Within' and the rock didn't stop for the next 3 hours. This week we played the first track in a 10-week series called Evolution. This was inspired by an article I read and a playlist that tracked the evolution of the Foo Fighters. I will do a track per week and then we'll do the Evolution of the next band after that. Note that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music. The problem with that, is you just can't get through the red tape, and the shows get blocked due to the convoluted licencing structures. You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens. The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help. You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X, or Instagram. This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Rain'. Once again, we had triplets, it turns out that The Cult, Dead City Ruins and Candlebox all had kids called 'Rain'. Immortals this week came from Iron Maiden. We listened to the title track off 1983's Powerslave. Adrian Smith told a great story about his guitar solo on the track which was worth retelling. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘R'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. Dan gets Jonathan Miller and Ed Olson of Fire In The Radio on the line to talk about how the band came together, took a break, came back together even stronger, and their upcoming return home to a Philadelphia stage at Sing Us Home Fest in Manayunk. Jon and Ed talked about growing up in the Philly punk and hardcore scene, being influenced by Dave Hause both as a musician and as a friend, growing your songwriting over the years, the trials that come with keeping a band of adults with lives and families together across the country, and how the punk spirit of youth ends up defining how you see the world going forward. Dave Hause is a musician who wears several hats. On the road, he's the front man of a well-known punk band. One that travels the world and releases music often. At home, he's a family man who can be found bringing his sons to school or running errands out in town for his family. The juggling act of being a musician with a family at home is a rewarding process. Dave said when he's home he is present. It's an opportunity to show his kids a creative life - a creative side that should be focused on more for our youth. His family's main rule is keep it balanced. He hits the road in blocks so that he can recharge and also be around the family. That way he can give his all when he's in the moment. Hause is still going strong. Two records have been released over the past year or so, plus his brother, Tim's new record was released in January. His brother brings a refreshing breathe to music. Hause now lives in California and his brother is still on the east coast, which means they have to find ways to record whether that's in-person or virtual. It's an obstacle most musicians deal with but at the end of the day he wants to create music that the audience will love. Hause even says about the live experience that he wants to give people what they didn't know they needed. There are a ton of fun stories In this interview.. especially the article Hause wrote about Taylor Swift being more punk than all of us - a public piece that received a lot of attention. There's also a story about over the pandemic when he put out cover songs of Dillinger Four. His record label, Blood Harmony Records, that he managers with his brother, is a way for them to self release. Each record shows growth for Hause.

The new record from Dave Hause called Drive It Like It's Stolen is the latest effort from the Philadelphia native. You might be surprised to hear that the hosts don't necessarily agree on this one, but listen as they go back and forth about this noticeably short 10 song album. Dan talks to long-time punk rock musician and songwriter Dave Hause about, well, everything. Dan and Dave talk his formative years growing up in Roxborough, being a roadie for Sick Of It All and The Bouncing Souls as a teen, starting his own bands like Step Ahead, The Curse, and The Loved Ones, playing in Paint It Black, and starting his own solo career. Dave talks deeply about family, fatherhood, songwriting, the benefits of therapy, the hard work that it takes to be an independent artist and record label (Dave started Blood Harmony Records with his brother Tim Hause in 2021), and the unexpected postion of creating a music festival. Dave and his team, along with Rising Sun Presents, bring their first ever festival, Sing Us Home Fest, to Manayunk, May 5th-6th. Dave's newest LP, 'Drive It Like It's Stolen', is out April 28th via his website, Blood Harmony Records, and anywhere you get digital music.
Formerly of The Curse and The Loved Ones, this prolific songwriter who now helms his own eponymous project returns to the show to discuss his new album.
As broadcast April 20, 2023 with plenty of love, because that is The Message. Tonight we start on this date in 1974, when MFSB's "TSOP" topped the charts in the US, mainly on the back of being the intro music to the nationally syndicated "Soul Train" TV show with Don Cornelius. After that, there's a lot to do in the present in the funk and soul worlds, as Pete Rock, The Ironsides, Lonnie Liston Smith, and many other highly worthy artists were out with new singles to upcoming albums. After the clock went gong again, Dan Lloyd once again joined us to highlight what's new and interesting in the world of rock stars and smashed guitars, with highlights from Squid, Better Lovers, and Metallica to keep you sweaty and desperate to the bitter end.#feelthegravityTracklist (st:rt)Part I (00:00)MFSB – Love Is The MessageLady Wray – Joy & Pain (Pete Rock remix)ENNY feat Loyle Carner – Take It SlowAllen Stone – MagicRudy De Anda – June Gloom (Smilin')The Ironsides - OutlinesPart II (36:02)Lonnie Liston Smith w/Jazz Is Dead – DawnWnbl – ContemplationBorn 74 & Onj – Don't Need My ShadowLITE – Endless BlueDragonfruit feat Hudson – Space TravelerRick Wade – The EmperorPart III (66:13)Better Lovers – 30 Under 13Metallica – Too Far GoneSquid – UndergrowthRancid – Tomorrow Never ComesMars Volta – Blank Condolences (Acoustic)Part IV (99:18)Militarie Gun – Very HighJethro Tull – GinnungagapCinema Stare – BadRoyal Thunder – FadeThe Breeders – SaintsDave Hause – Tarnish

After some minor technical difficulty, we are back with a FRESH EP. To all our devoted and loyal listeners demanding answers, thank you for your patience. This week on the podcast, Jackie, Jonny, and Ty are talking covers. More specifically, Dave Hause's 2020 acoustic album "Paddy", covering punk songs by Dillinger Four's Patrick "Paddy" Costello. First, though, some important coverage on the apparent haunting of American Airline flights going to and from LAX with the ghost of a man who seemingly died a cruel death on an airline toilet. That's our best guess, anyways. Do you think planes can be haunted? When does spiritual presence cross the line into a haunting? This is a music podcast, sorta. At long last (longer than it should have been because...well because time is a social construct really) Dave Hause returns for his second appearance on (*both laugh*)! When last we spoke (Episode 25 if you're keeping score at home), Dave had just self-released a double EP of Patty Griffin and Paddy Costello/Dillinger Four covers. We were still in Pandemic Year One and that project served as a fun and unique way to stay productive and creative and to dip his toes into navigating through the "new normal" waters. Fast-forward eighteen months (yes, really...18 months, almost to the day...remember when I said time was a social construct) and it was time for round two! The centerpiece of this installment was Dave's latest solo album, "Blood Harmony." It was released last October on his own record label, but because the vinyl is still trickling its way out, I don't feel QUITE so bad about catching up at the six month post-release mark. "Blood Harmony" found Dave and his brother Tim working together again, this time in Nashville. The duo and producer Will Hoge (himself not only a brilliant songwriter and masterful producer but a veteran of this show as well - see Episode 12) holed up at Sound Emporium with a slew of heavy-hitting studio musicians (Sadler Vaden, Tom Bukovac, Garry Tallent!!?!?!). "Blood Harmony" finds Hause running headlong down the Americana path that he'd been at least tip-toeing down for the last decade. We talked about the album, and the recording, and Will Hoge's greatness, and the idea of "chasing the song." We also talked about his ongoing partnership with Tim (including work on Tim's own upcoming debut solo album) and about therapy and about touring in a never-ending pandemic and a lot more, as we are want to do. Check out "Blood Harmony" here: https://davehause.bandcamp.com/album/blood-harmony (https://davehause.bandcamp.com/album/blood-harmony) While you're at it, check out the rest of Dave's bandcamp releases - lots of live shows and some newer B-sides and more: https://davehause.bandcamp.com/ (https://davehause.bandcamp.com/) Get more Dave goodies and tour dates and whatnot here: http://davehause.com/ (http://davehause.com/) (*both laughs*) theme song is an excerpt from [laughs] track "Hurts To Laugh." © KALI MASI 2021 ℗ Take This To Heart Records 2021

Phil and Jake are rank the 1983 fictional band biopic Eddie and the Cruisers, the 1999 Latin pop hit “Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of…)” by Lou Bega, and being possessed on the List of Every Damn Thing. If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: Jake and Phil are always on the grind trying to make money while they sleep, trying to monetize, etc. Just the most craven shit you can imagine. Pod-Bucks are how Phil and Jake get paid for making this podcast. A Pod-Buck is kind of like a No-Prize but without the envelope. Actors that we discuss include Tom Berenger, Ellen Barkin, Joe Pantoliano, James Franco, Michael Paré, Rick Springfield, Gary Oldman, Dan Aykroyd and Bob Saget. Many musical acts come up during the episode, such as Bruce Springsteen, Dion and the Belmonts, My Chemical Romance, Damaso Perez Prado, Aerosmith, Ice Cube, Spinderella, Bell Biv Devoe and Chris Gaines. We talk about how The Doors were used as an inspiration for Eddie and the Cruisers, but we fail to draw the connection that there were also rumors about Jim Morrison faking his death. Songs discussed include “On the Dark Side” by John Cafferty (which is from the movie), “Quarter to Three” by Gary U.S. Bonds (maybe Phil's favorite song of the 20th century), “Project Chick” by Cash Money Millionaires, “Kokomo” by the Beach Boys, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cindi Lauper and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” by Dione Warwick. Phil mentions a song from the movie called “Special Touch” but the actual name of the song is “Down On My Knees” (also by John Cafferty). Phil's right when he says it sounds like “Hurts So Good” by John Mellencamp. Other movies discussed include That Thing You Do!, West Is West, Streets of Fire, Jersey Boys, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Howard the Duck, Caddyshack, The Matrix, The Truman Show, Drumline, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Exorcist, All of Me, Ghost, Ghost Rider, Ghostbusters, Evil Dead 2, Repossessed, R.I.P.D., The Frighteners and of course Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! Streets of Rage is the arcade game Phil mentioned that uses the common trope of a power up of a whole roast chicken that makes the player regain his health. The Palace of Depression was a real place in Vineland, New Jersey. Jake claims that Eddie and the Cruisers used the actual site as a shooting location, though the internet implies that it was razed in 1969 so maybe the one from the movie was a recreation. Jake calls meals_by_cug a Jersey guy but it looks like he's from Staten Island. We refer to our episode featuring Dave Hause, in which we go over Dave's USA Today piece about Taylor Swift and master tapes. Here's the scene from The Simpsons where Bart tries to buy a novelty license plate. Brian WIlson had a nervous breakdown when he heard the Beatles' Revolver. Sleep paralysis is the worst. Jake cites Scottish folklore that attributes it to a witch sitting on your chest. We couldn't trace the story to Scotland, but we did discover the night hag, which isn't too far off the mark. We don't actually get into the movie, but Silverado is an 80s neo-traditional Western by Lawrence Kasdan with a stacked cast that Phil's never seen, and is the one movie that Phil will never be invited over to Jake's house to watch.
