Had a great conversation with Josh... twice. The first time we had some audio issues so we re-recorded the first third when we talked about his early career and then spliced it together. A bit choppy but I think it worked. After that it ran smoothly the rest of the way. I respect everyone's right to like or dislike Josh and feel free to debate. What is not debatable is that Josh is a human being and a member of our disc golf community and Frisbee Family, that makes him part of my family and he gets as much of my love as everyone else in my family. Take that for what it's worth. I hope you all enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scottstokely/message
Charlie Eisenhood and Steve Hill discuss Josh Anthon's potential sponsorship at Innova, discuss this weekend's Idlewild Open, and look at what might happen next with the Disc Golf Pro and World Tours.
Fresh off of trips to Europe and the Ledgestone Insurance Open, travel teammates Jeremy Koling and Austin Turner make their fifth and sixth (ish) appearances on Final Round Radio. A lot has happened in the time since we last spoke to Austin and Jerm. Jerm finally broke the witness streak by getting an ace of his own. Austin got hit in the face with a disc at the European Open, which derailed the rest of that tournament for him. We talk about where both golfers are at mentally after each of those events. In the Lead Card, we talk about the 6th Annual 21 Hole Salute, as well as recapping the Ledgestone and Josh Anthon's return to prominence with his wire-to-wire win. In the Par 4, we talk about which half of the tour is more fun (first or second), what Josh Anthon's status with Innova is after his Ledgestone win, and which young player will be the next to step up and challenge Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki for disc golf dominance. Send in your questions for the Par 4 by shooting us an email at finalroundaradio@gmail.com, and messaging us at @finalroundradio on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Steve Hill and Charlie Eisenhood discuss the Ledgestone Open, Josh Anthon's dominant performance and what it means, Val Jenkins' playoff win over an impressive Jessica Weese, the criticisms surrounding the Ledgestone tournament, and the American Disc Golf Tour's appearance on ESPN8 "The Ocho."
Wow, what an event. Surprising dominance by Josh Anthon, surprising OBs by Paul McBeth and surprising missed putts by Ricky Wysocki. Let's look at how Josh was able to take down the two titans. Then let's discuss all the surrounding issues that made for such a disparity in online comments between this either being the greatest or worst thing in the history of disc golf. Bob shows up to talk about why this time of year is so great.
In this episode we review the P2 by Discmania along with Pale Ale by Sierra Nevada. We also recap the Ledgestone Open, speculate a bit on Josh Anthon, and congratulate Big Jerm on snapping his ace drought. The Final Round Radio East crew made the three hour drive down to Augusta, GA for the 2017 PDGA Pro World Championships, and yes, we drove the RV. It was very comfortable. The Friday rounds at Worlds were held at the International Disc Golf Center in nearby Appling. After a grueling 18 holes in the Georgia summer heat, Andy Goh, Kevin Burgess and Pat Bowles sat down with some of the players coming off the course. In this episode, you'll hear from Josh Anthon, Simon Lizotte (and his dad), and Augusta pro Josh Childs. We'll be on the ground at Fort Gordon where Saturday's final round will be held. Expect another episode with more interviews with some of the top names in disc golf.
Steve Hill and Charlie Eisenhood break down the Utah Open and Ricky Wysocki's walk-off win (1:05) and consider Josh Anthon's possible success this year (15:10) and whether a company might sponsor him (24:15). Plus, talk about some of the young talent on tour (38:20) and a look at the double standard Catrina Allen faces (44:30).
Steve Hill breaks down all of the action from last weekend's Masters Cup -- including Paul McBeth's historic first round (1:50) and Ricky Wysocki's hot putting (7:00) -- and is joined by Madison Walker (20:30) to talk about her recovery from injury. Plus, a dip into the Twitter mailbag to talk about putting the cameras on McBeth and Wysocki (40:45), Josh Anthon (45:20), and the upcoming PDGA Pro World Championships (54:15).
Making his second appearance on Final Round Radio, Travis Chumley of team Prodigy joins Andy, Pat and Dave in the Final Round Radio East studios. Chumley is a member of the UNC Charlotte disc golf team, so we talk about how the team is doing in its final push towards Nationals. Chumley also discusses his back injury that he's recovered from, his struggles with putting, and what tournaments he plans on playing in 2017. We also talk about the return of Josh Anthon and what it means for disc golf, unpopular discs, widening the 10 meter circle and whether or not to put a limit on the number of discs you can carry in PDGA tournaments.
Charlie Eisenhood and Steve Hill recap the action at the 2017 Waco Annual Charity Open before interviewing Jeremy Koling about his win at the tournament. Later in the show, a discussion of Josh Anthon's return to the course after his time in prison.
With the 2016 USDGC quickly approaching, some of the top names in disc golf are making their trip to Charlotte. Two of those players, Avery Jenkins and Eagle Wynn McMahon of Team Discmania, stopped by to sit in for Episode 54. Avery, the 2009 World Champion, and Eagle, who is in his second year on tour, are at opposite ends of their careers, which gave this interview a very dynamic feel. Avery told us the story of his win in 2009 in a playoff with Josh Anthon, gave us the scoop on Discmania's new player combine and even answered the question of whether or not he was going to retire at the end of the year. Eagle talked about transitioning to life on the road, what it was like meeting his disc golf idols and whether or not he plans to go to college or commit to professional disc golf full time. We recap the San Francisco Safari and the Sneaky Pete Classic in the Lead Card. We figure out who would win in an arm wrestling match, Avery or Eagle, in the Par 4 (sponsored by NoDa Brewing Company). We play four fresh Hyzer Line messages and figure out if our guests are Mac or PC guys in the Final 9.
In this episode Eric and I discuss The Old Man Memorial tournament that was played in Lewisville, Texas. We also talk about the new OB rule for the USDGC. This new rule is a little hard to understand as we read it but should make more sense once Eric gets out there. CDSB has reached the goal of 5,000 subscribers on the Dynamic Discs YouTube channel and as promised has uploaded the second Dynamic Duel that was filmed back in 2010. This duel has Paul Ulibarri and Nikko Locastro up against Cale Leiviska and Josh Anthon. Be sure to subscribe to the Dynamic Discs YouTube channel so you don't miss out on video uploads. Then of course Eric McCabe answers you Disc Golf questions. We would like to hear your opinions about the OB rule at the USDGC. In the embedded post below give us your thoughts on it.Thanks for listening.
