The PGA TOUR just revealed several major changes that could completely reshape the future of professional golf — and some of them might look very familiar. In this week's episode of The Golf Podcast we break down the major changes the PGA TOUR just announced and what they could mean for the future of professional golf. With the 2027 season on the horizon, the Tour's new leadership — along with input from Tiger Woods and the Future Competition Committee — is proposing a dramatic overhaul that could reshape the schedule, field sizes, and postseason format. Among the biggest changes being discussed are a shorter season with fewer events, smaller and more consistent tournament fields, a new marquee opening event to kick off the season, and the possibility of bringing the PGA TOUR back to major markets around the world. We also explore how promotion and relegation could affect players fighting to keep their Tour cards and why the Tour is considering adding match play to the FedEx Cup Playoffs to create more dramatic “win-or-go-home” moments. Throughout the episode we discuss how much of this new direction may have been influenced by the disruption caused by LIV Golf, and whether these changes will ultimately make the PGA TOUR a stronger product for fans and players alike. If these proposals become reality, the structure of professional golf could look very different in just a few years. Golf shafts bend, twist, droop, and deflect during the golf swing and most golfers have NO idea how much this impacts their ball flight. In this podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb from Athletic Motion Golf sit down with Michael “Nipper” Nef, President and CEO of GEARS Golf, the most advanced golf swing motion capture system in the world. GEARS has captured millions of golf swings, including hundreds of thousands from PGA Tour players, giving researchers unprecedented insight into how the body and golf club actually move during a swing. We break down the science of shaft droop, torque, and deflection, why most golfers misunderstand how shafts behave, and how GEARS technology measures both body motion and club data simultaneously... something no other system can do with the same accuracy.Michael explains how GEARS measures:- Shaft bending, twisting, and drooping- Clubhead delivery and face angle- Body joint motion during the swing- Dynamic lie angle and how it affects shot shapeWe also dive deep into the GEARS Curve (sometimes called the Nipper Curve) — a concept showing why every club in your bag should be treated as a completely different tool during club fitting. If you've ever wondered:- Why long irons tend to go right- Why wedges sometimes pull left- Why traditional club fitting can miss critical variables- How PGA Tour players dial in equipment…this conversation will completely change how you think about the golf swing.Whether you're a golfer, coach, club fitter, or golf tech enthusiast, this episode explains the hidden physics behind the golf swing and how modern motion capture technology is revolutionizing instruction and equipment fitting.

We'll call this the cliffhanger episode. Not only is Brentley anxious over a Liberty basketball game that Burko recommended he pick for a pool (spoiler: they lost), but Brentley also catches up with Texas junior Farah O'Keefe during the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate (she won). O'Keefe shares the crazy story of how got into this new putter that has unlocked her game, her new mental approach, why she was lightly recruited, the neat sports backgrounds of her parents, what was on her list of goals she wrote as a kid, and much more. And speaking of Burko, he's away this week calling A-10 hoops, so Golfweek's Cameron Jourdan joins to recap a wild Hayt Invitational and other results. Plus, they play a new .500-rule game. LIV Golf is spending billions and losing millions every month — so is this a failing experiment or the beginning of a completely different future for professional golf? In this week's episode of The Golf Podcast we'll break down the latest developments surrounding LIV Golf's finances, including a new $267 million funding injection from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and reports that the league is losing nearly $100 million per month. We take a closer look at what these numbers really mean, separating headlines from reality as LIV's total investment approaches $6 billion. Is the league simply burning cash, or is there a long-term strategy unfolding behind the scenes? We explore how LIV is shifting its focus toward team competition, increasing payouts across all 13 teams, and potentially positioning itself more like Formula 1 with franchise-style ownership and long-term valuation in mind. We also discuss growing sponsorship revenue, the significance of new partners like Rolex, and whether these moves signal progress toward financial sustainability. Plus, we examine the looming impact of Bryson DeChambeau's potential contract extension and why his future could reveal LIV's true long-term plans. Is LIV Golf building the foundation for a global sports league, or just buying time while operating at a loss? Are men and women golf swings actually different? Or is there really just one fundamental golf swing? In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb sit down with instructor Nathalie Sheehan to discuss the real differences between male and female golfers, common swing tendencies, and how instructors should approach coaching each. While the fundamentals of the golf swing remain the same, Nathalie explains there are often physical tendencies and skill development differences that show up between male and female players. Some of the key topics covered include:• Why many female golfers struggle with grip strength early on • Common swing tendencies instructors see in men vs women • Why female golfers often over-rotate the backswing • The role of strength, flexibility, and posture in the golf swing • Why creativity in practice can improve scoring • How coaching juniors differs from coaching adult golfers • Mental game differences between male and female playersNathalie also shares her journey from competitive junior golf to becoming one of the top instructors in the game, working with players at Pelican Golf Club in Florida and appearing regularly on the Golf Channel. If you've ever wondered:Should women swing differently than men?Do female golfers need different instruction? Are there mechanical differences between male and female golf swings? This conversation breaks down the science, coaching insights, and real-world experience behind those questions.
Anthony Kim's emotional comeback win had the entire golf world watching — but did it finally give LIV Golf the spark it's been searching for? In this week's episode of the golf podcast we'll ask the question everyone's debating: was Anthony Kim's LIV Golf win the turning point the league has been waiting for? We break down why Golf Digest called it an “authentic moment” that money couldn't manufacture, and why it mattered beyond the feel-good story—especially with LIV Golf now earning Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points. Kim's victory sparked immediate impact, jumping from No. 847 to No. 203 in the world rankings, putting majors back into the conversation and proving how much these points can change a season (and a career). We also unpack the optics of a rocky 2026 for LIV, including big-name departures, and whether Kim's comeback can actually move the needle on viewership. Plus, we dive into why LIV Golf Adelaide continues to be the model event for the league, drawing 115,000 fans in 2026 after 94,000 (2024) and 102,000 (2025)—making it one of the most attended golf events in Australia and a real example of “growing the game” in an underserved market. Finally, we read listener reactions from both sides of the PGA Tour vs LIV divide and debate whether this was a one-time moment—or the start of something bigger. If you're trying to increase driver distance, gain clubhead speed, or add serious carry to your drives, this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast with Mike Granato and Shaun Webb breaks down a real-world speed training transformation. In just four weeks, Athletic Motion Golf student Kyle increased his driver clubhead speed from 101 mph to 107 mph, producing 11 mph more ball speed and roughly 28 yards of additional carry distance. The best part? Every session was tracked and verified on a professional launch monitor (GC3 / Bushnell Launch Pro).Mike Granato and Shaun Webb walk through the exact speed training protocol, how many swings were required, how long each session took, and why hitting balls during speed training produced better results than traditional overspeed systems.Kyle explains how only two speed sessions per week (20–30 minutes each) completely changed his golf game — turning long iron approaches into wedges and making par 5s reachable. This episode covers:• The exact protocol used for speed training • How overspeed training actually works • Why hitting balls matters for speed development • How to track speed improvements correctly • What speed gains mean for scoring and approach shotsIf you're serious about hitting the driver farther and improving your golf performance, this podcast episode provides a real case study showing what happens when speed training is done correctly.

LIV Golf has finally gotten the Official World Golf Rankings they’ve been waiting for, but there’s a major catch that has many players and fans frustrated. In this week's episode of The Golf Podcast we'll break down the biggest wrinkle in golf's power struggle right now: LIV Golf finally receiving Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points — and the immediate backlash that followed. After LIV revamped its schedule and format to meet ranking expectations, points are now being awarded right away, but only to the top 10 finishers (and ties) in individual stroke play. That hard cutoff has sparked frustration from players like Jon Rahm, who said it “doesn't seem fair,” and from LIV CEO Scott O'Neil, who argued the policy leaves the vast majority of the field with zero points. We'll explain why OWGR categorized LIV as a “small-field” situation, why no-cut events elsewhere still earn points deeper down the leaderboard, and what this means for players chasing majors, Ryder Cup points, and long-term career opportunities. To put it into perspective, we compare real recent points totals from the PGA TOUR (Waste Management Phoenix Open), LIV's season opener in Riyadh, and the DP World Tour event Patrick Reed won, plus how LIV's winner points stack up against a PGA TOUR alternate-field event like the Puerto Rico Open. Then we open it up to you: fair framework, or flop?
Is the “shallow the club” trend ruining your swing? In this episode, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb from Athletic Motion Golf sit down with Wills Murray...AMG's newest certified instructor now coaching out of The Lab in Monterey, California. Wills dives into what he's seeing on the West Coast, and we break down the overcorrection epidemic that's sabotaging thousands of amateur golfers trying to “get more shallow.”From over-shallowing and clubface control to why your backswing is killing your rotation—this episode unpacks it all. We also dig into the Gears 3D motion capture system and how it's changing the game for understanding your swing mechanics. If you've ever dropped kicked a driver, sliced your irons, or tried to look like a PGA pro based on YouTube swings… this one's for you.
Is Bryson DeChambeau quietly setting up his exit from LIV Golf—or playing the smartest leverage game professional golf has ever seen? In this week's episode of The Golf Podcast, we dive into the latest controversy surrounding Bryson DeChambeau and his increasingly non-committal comments about the future of LIV Golf. With reports swirling about a potential $500 million contract extension, we break down whether Bryson is genuinely frustrated with LIV's shift to 72-hole events—or strategically applying pressure as negotiations heat up. We analyze his recent quotes in full, compare his stance to players who have firmly committed to LIV like Jon Rahm, and contrast that with high-profile departures, including Brooks Koepka, who has already begun the process of returning to the PGA Tour. We’ll also explore how leverage in professional golf appears to be shifting, what LIV's long-term strategy might be, and why Bryson's YouTube success and marketability play such a massive role in his value. Finally, we pose this week's big question: if you were Bryson, would you take a half-billion-dollar LIV deal or bet on a return to the PGA Tour? In yet another major twist, Patrick Reed announced today that he's leaving LIV Golf — and it immediately raises some bigger questions about the league's future. In this week's podcast we react in real time to breaking news as Patrick Reed announces he's leaving LIV Golf and planning a return to the PGA Tour. We break down how Reed's situation is very different from Brooks Koepka's costly path back, explain why Reed won't face the same penalties, and walk through the full timeline from his LIV exit to when he's eligible to compete again on the PGA Tour. The bigger question, though, is what this move means for LIV Golf as a league, especially with multiple high-profile American players now heading back to the PGA Tour while many international stars remain committed to LIV. We also examine Reed's recent comments praising the PGA Tour, his motivation for returning, and how family, travel, visibility, and brand value may all be playing a role in these decisions. Plus, we discuss how Patrick Reed might be received by fans and players as he returns to a tour where he once played the villain, and whether the PGA Tour actually benefits from having polarizing personalities back in the spotlight. From exemptions and eligibility to majors, rankings, and long-term implications for both tours, we cover everything you need to know about Patrick Reed leaving LIV Golf and what could come next. This might be the most misunderstood concept in the golf swing… and it's costing golfers more than they realize. In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb break down one of the most commonly botched elements in the modern golf swing: shaft lean at impact.Golfers everywhere are obsessed with achieving that “tour-level look” — hands forward, clubface compressing the ball — but most are chasing a pose, not a position rooted in proper movement and mechanics. And the results? Inconsistent ball striking, weak compression, and frustration on the course.Mike and Shaun dive into:Why holding lag is ruining your swingThe truth about wrist angles and body positioningHow “posing impact” is hurting your real performanceWhy even elite players misunderstand what shaft lean actually isThe role of swing sequence and movement patterns in achieving natural compressionThis episode is for every player who's chased compression, tried to "hold the angle," or been told their hands need to be way forward at impact.
