We try something a little different on this episode of Final Round Radio East, as we use the Hyzer Line (704.727.6077) to make a call to two Charlotte-area players who have gotten a hot start to their touring year: Grady Shue and Lance Brown. Grady Shue finished in a tie for sixth place at the Memorial Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, despite a 30-plus hour drive to get there with Jeremy Koling. Not to be outdone, Burlington, NC native Lance Brown won the Wintertime Open beating a field including Paul McBeth, Eagle McMahon, Philo Brathwaite and others in his first A-tier of 2018. Andy Goh and Pat Bowles chat to both of them over the phone to get their take on their performances and see what's awaiting them in 2018. We also discuss Ricky Wysocki's foot fault at the Memorial, James Conrad's "Bottlegate" incident at the same event, the withdraw of Vibram from the world of disc manufacturing, and early season trends in the Par 4. In the first episode of 2018, we talk to one of Final Round Radio's most frequent guests, Jeremy Koling. Big Jerm had lots to talk about, as he just returned from his trip to Thailand to play in the Samui Swine Classic, had his crazy trick shot, the pterodactyl claw, go viral, and he also explains why he signed up with the Disc Golf Group and why he believes it might change the business of disc golf as we know it. We also talk about the constant change and closing of signature disc golf courses like Roy G. Guererro, Swope and RL Smith. We examine the effects of adding a fifth round to the PDGA Worlds, our biggest on-air mistakes, and give some way too early predictions for the 2018 season. Months, even years before the first tee shot at a PDGA Major or NT flies into the air, hundreds of hours of groundwork, planning, and logistics go into making that event possible. One of the people who is most responsible for that work that generally goes unseen is our guest for Episode 106, Shawn Sinclair. Shawn has worked for the PDGA for many years as a Chief Marshall, member of the Board of Directors, and also as course consultant. That part of his role is what brings him to Charlotte this week, as he is scouting out locations for the 2018 Am Worlds which will be held here in the Queen City. In Episode 106, we talk about Shawn's background playing disc golf in Southern California, how he made the decision to go pro and quit a job in teaching, and how he got involved with the PDGA on a working basis. He also talks about being on the committee that was tasked with finding a replacement for outgoing director Brian Graham. The 2017 USDGC is over, and Nate Sexton is your champion. Nate claims his first major title after holding onto a 3-7 stroke lead throughout most of the last three rounds of the tournament. "Big Wave" Dave George, Pat "PDB" Bowles and Andy Goh traveled down to Rock Hill, SC to talk to Jonathan, who helped found the tournament on the campus of Winthrop University in 1999. Jonathan talked to us about the tournament's history, and Innova's efforts to make it the premiere event on the disc golf schedule. He also talked about the tournament's partnership with Winthrop, and how the course was designed. After all the heat and rain delays at Fort Gordon Disc Golf Course on the final day of the 2017 World Championships, Ricky Wysocki had captured his second straight world title in dominant fashion. Earlier in the day, Paige Pierce further solidified her place as the top women's player in the game with her fourth world title overall. It was also another stellar event for the disc golf community as the International Disc Golf Center and Fort Gordon proved to be excellent hosts for the sport's marquee event. In Episode 87, we talk to Paige Pierce about her new title just minutes after dropping in her final putt. Tournament Director Zach Shafer also gives us his thoughts on the event and the logistics that went into managing the rain delays. Finally, the crew from Jomez Productions sits down to talk about their first year touring and producing full time.

We'll be recording Friday and Saturday nights at Worlds, so expect two episodes next weekend.
