Join Jack and Lizzie as they bite off way more than they can chew in an unusually theology-heavy podcast looking at Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body. What does it mean to be human? Why do we have bodies? What is sexuality really all about? And how does that link to the Trinity, the Church, the Incarnation, and, well basically everything!?As ever, get in touch on Twitter @CatholicBants, and if you like this stuff, why not do us a sold and give us a nice Five Star review so that we can rise up the charts and more people will listen! Here's a bit of stuff we talk about during the episode:Theology of the Body for Beginners (West)Loads of TOB info, including a link to the full textGay Girl, Good God (Jackie Hill Perry)Mystici Corporis (Encyclical Letter, Pope Pius XII) (Published in 1943, and not 1925 as Jack said on the pod!)Young Catholic America (Smith et al)
This week we bring you an expert on Pope John Paul II's "Theology of the Body" in two parts! Katrina J. Zeno, MTS, has served as the founding coordinator of the St. John Paul II Resource Center for Theology of the Body and Culture for the Diocese of Phoenix, AZ for 14 years, and has been speaking around the world on the Theology of the Body for over 23 years --not as simply another "subject" that is taught, but as the foundation of all that is taught and lived. Katrina is the author of three books including Discovering the Feminine Genius and The Body Reveals God, over 50 articles, and a blog entitled, “TOB Tuesdays.” She received her master in theological studies from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Washington, DC, and her BA in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. When not speaking, Katrina enjoys dancing salsa and Argentine tango, hiking, swimming, playing table tennis, and spending time with her married son Michael and her new granddaughter. This is an audio podcast of The Dr J Show. Full video episode is available here.
Everything we do—good, evil, neutral—speaks to our longing for heaven. World-renowned teacher of Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body and bestselling author, Christopher West, leans into this longing and unpacks it with outrageous wisdom and tenderness. This is one we are all going to be going back and listening to several times. It is that rich. (And don't worry: Those of you who want some of that goofball action, we make sure to talk about rats dying in Wendy's grease buckets. Yep.) Highlights: "Here’s the whole Bible in five words: ‘God wants to marry us.’” --Christopher West "We have three choices when it comes to our desire: We are either going to become the Stoic and repress the desire, an Addict and indulge in the finite pleasures of the world that never satisfy, or I am going to become…[an] Aspiring Mystic…someone who opens their hunger to the infinite.” --Christopher West Question of the Week for Next Week: What were you modeled/taught to do with your emotions growing up? Share them? Bury them? Open up and emphasize certain ones? (Like anger?) Do the Next Thing: https://lauriekrieg.com/podcast/fill-these-hearts/
