Ollie Forsyth is a bread-and-born entrepreneur, the host of The Makers Podcast, he has been listed #3 on the New York Times Super Teen List and was also featured in numerous magazines like Forbes, The Times, Entrepreneur.com. He was also a Young Entrepreneur finalist at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in 2017, was named one of 20 under 20 CEOs by TransferWise and received a distinguished award from the Queen of England for being one of Queens Young Leaders. Besides all this, he is also very passionate about classic cars and already owned two before even having a drivers license.
Frances is the ex-director of the Queens Young Leaders programme and describes herself as a ‘positive troublemaker’ which I think is very much the case. We start on her journey where she sort of blagged her way through university, playing the system to get through. Her ability to do this did make her lose interest in art and I think ultimately university. Frances talks very openly about her own struggles with mental health and discovering that her depression manifests itself as not being able to read. This led to her not finishing her PhD but ultimately, a deeper understanding of herself. To be honest I’d not heard of Queens Young Leaders until I found out Frances got the position. It was a brilliant programme helping amazing people across the commonwealth who are running projects or business that are socially focused. Really interesting to hear how Frances will be building on this network of 500+ people across the world in her new role at the Queen’s Commonwealth trust. Asking guests where their expertise lies is always a tricky question but I eventually got Frances to answer it. She describes herself as a good communicator with a large shallow base and specialises in translating information to a specific audience. We also touch on her Mum’s battle with cancer and how the Grief Cast Podcast has really helped her through tough times. Death is often a subject that we shy away from and embracing it through discussion and comedy is always good in my opinion. “You’ve got to be able to express, to give what it is of who you are” - Sam Jones I met Sam back in 2013 during an NGO work of one of my social initiatives back in London. 5 years later I’m glad to interview him and dig deeper into how his book could look like. Sam is the founder of ALL IN, CEO and Millennial Speaker at Twenty Someone. He works with over 140 individuals, specialising in millennials. Delivered Workshops and keynotes to over 3000 people. In a nutshell, his intensive coaching shifts young people‘s personal and professional life from the inside-out. Plus he was in the final round of the Queens Young Leaders 2014. Sam truly believes that happy people win, he repeatedly mentions this on social media. As a coach, he aims to work on the self-belief of young people. His book is: ---------------------------------------------------- ABOUT CHAPTERS OF MY LIFE BOOK TITLE ALL IN - Happy People Win CHAPTERS 1 Start with why 2 Individuals 3 Reality 4 Don’t conform to the should 5 Turning Point 6 Tweet someone 7 Figuring out 8 Stay humble NEXT CHAPTER Experimenting - doing more things that challenge me ---------------------------------------------------- With his book title „ALL IN, Happy People Win“, he definitely touches an important point. During the podcast I won’t forget what he emphasized: “You’ve got to be able to express, to give what it is of who you are”. He likes to get to the point, lot’s of chapters but short once, straight into the topic. His authentic style on social media is as Sam is in reality. Sam is an incredible speaker with putting facts on the table which are worth mentioning especially in self-developing. ABOUT CHAPTERS OF MY LIFE PODCAST I want you to imagine your past life. Right, where should I start? Imagine you need to write your life story in form of a book already. It’s a challenge itself and frankly, not everyone has thought of this, as we always think when we get older we should write about our life. But in fact, we have so many experience ready to share with others, achievements, failures to learn from, positive and negative life transitions which in the end lead to the person we are today. This "Chapters of my life podcast" is an inspiring collection of life transitions packed into a podcast audiobook format capturing the willpower and belief of people during important life-changing decisions. We interview innovators, athletes, entrepreneurs and idealists give an insight into their past life from a young age till today and (future untold plans) covering topics around sports, entrepreneurship, mindfulness, travel, nutrition, spirituality, yoga & meditation and more - everything which leads to the person they are today. Micci Gorrod is a meditation teacher, actress and coach with her company The Conscious Creative. She is also a tutor at Cambridge University at their Institute of Continuing Education and a tutor for the Queens Young Leaders. And she is also the gorgeous wife of last weeks guest - Jivana. “Life’s not about what happens with your eyes closed, because sometimes the mind can be busy, but it's what I was noticing in my everyday life, that everything felt smoother and calmer and there was an ongoing stillness and contentment which is always there as long as I kept my practice up.” "I felt like I was at the beginning of an adventure - I got excited because I didn’t have to be in nature to suddenly access the great contentment I got from nature. I wanted to find out more about how I could stay in that space because now I had a technique that could take me to that.” Topics mentioned: Micci dishes the dirt on life as Jivana’s wife How she got so much more than just joy when she learned to meditate. Answering the big questions - who am I, why am I here, what am I capable of experiencing? How meditation deals with trauma or torturous thoughts How Micci found she could be as content in a crowded London tube as she could in nature. How the stresses and emotional toll within the acting industry led to her setting up The Conscious Creative The Queens Young Leaders - kinda like the Queen’s super special business incubator for millennials Micci shares her experience of teaching meditation in Rwanda and about the effectiveness of the Pink Light Technique Micci shares her current health & fertility challenges. How her doctors are surprised that she’s not experiencing more pain. How her desire to have a baby is there but there isn’t the anguish that she has seen others experience from it - there is a complete acceptance of the things you cannot change, beyond your control and it's only the resistance to that causes any suffering around it. We talk and laugh about the challenges of technology We talk about grief and I share how I can now acknowledge how naturally present I was when my boyfriends died, that initally all I expereinced was love, it was only later when my mind kicked in that I started to experience pain. When I learned to meditate that initial sense of love returns. “I always thought that meditation was something that should just be good for you, but be a bit boring. But its amazing, there is just more and more joy that comes from moving stress and connecting with that inner peace within you.” “The more present I am, the more effective I am. But there’s a lot less to worry about and to take too seriously so I can start to laugh at the nature of my own mind. Knowing that’s not me, that I am that which is aware of thought and emotions and it all comes and goes and moves.” Resources mentioned: The Pink Light Technique - FREE DOWNLOAD Acts of Gratitude - Rwanada with Jean d'Amour Mutoni The Queen's Young Leaders The Conscious Creative A Mindful Choice Learn to meditate with Micci and Jivana, they are teaching a weekend meditation course at their home in Berkhamsted, just north of London from the 6th to 8th of October, 2017.
