Pourquoi les femmes sont-elles davantage touchées par la dépression que les hommes ?    Au nombre des troubles mentaux les plus fréquents, on retrouve la dépression : tristesse persistante, perte d'intérêt et d'énergie, qualité du sommeil altérée, culpabilité et pensées autodestructrices… La proximité de certains symptômes avec des émotions de la vie courante peut conduire à ne pas l'identifier ou à retarder son diagnostic. La stigmatisation, encore très présente autour de la santé mentale, peut également constituer un facteur qui éloigne trop souvent les personnes dépressives du soin.  Se défaire de la culpablité  La dépression peut affecter n'importe qui, aux différents âges de la vie, avec des vulnérabilités particulières, en fonction de l'environnement, d'événements de la vie, de la disposition familiale… Elle touche plus fréquemment les femmes que les hommes. Consulter pour trouver le soulagement  Selon l'Organisation mondiale de la santé, la dépression est l'une des 10 maladies majeures du XXIè siècle. Elle peut être associée à un événement brutal ou douloureux, à une autre maladie. Pour certaines personnes, il est difficile d'expliquer pourquoi on a perdu le goût de se lever, de travailler, de manger ou de sortir. Des épisodes dépressifs d'intensité diverse, qui peuvent aussi être passés sous silence, par culpabilité, à cause du regard des autres.  Des prises en charge existent comme les médicaments, la psychothérapie, des approches multiples pour soulager, retrouver des forces et retrouver le goût de vivre.  Dr Etienne Duranté, psychiatre et doctorant en santé publique au CRESS (Centre de Recherche en Épidémiologie et Statistiques) à l'Inserm. Il travaille dans l'équipe de la cohorte ComPaRe Dépression. ComPaRe Dépression est la première e-cohorte francophone pour les personnes ayant vécu ou vivant avec une dépression, rassemblant plus de 7 500 personnes et à laquelle il est toujours possible de participer. Ireland's ambitions to strengthen female leadership across its technology sector have taken a leap forward with the launch of NOVA - Women in Tech Leadership Programme, designed specifically for the top tier of emerging female tech leaders. Created by Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet in partnership with Connecting Women in Tech (CWIT), NOVA will focus on combining human-centred leadership with the advanced strategic technology and AI-enabled capabilities expected of senior tech leaders in the years ahead. For the Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet, the NOVA programme builds on a decade of impact on women in the technology sector, through its multi award winning women tech returner programmes, bringing over 900 women back to the tech sector, and impacting on gender balance across the sector. The initiative will see over 20 professionals from 25 CWIT member companies advance their leadership journey when the first cohort commences in January. Máire Hunt, Director of Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet, said: "As a sector we must continually find new ways to attract, retain and promote women. Particularly in the age of AI, women can be disproportionately affected. The NOVA programme is a high-performance accelerator specifically designed for women leaders who can shape the future of technology in an AI driven world. It equips participants not just to take a seat at the table, but to shape it." Women are often underrepresented in tech and AI leadership roles, which can influence how AI systems are developed and implemented. If AI systems are developed without diverse perspectives, they may perpetuate biases that disproportionately affect women. Una Fitzpatrick Director of Technology Ireland, said: "Women in Technology already excel in their technical domain. However, they are under-represented at more senior management positions. Companies across the sector are looking for a sector driven, development pathway that prepares female leaders to make an impact in an AI driven world." Technology Ireland Digital Skillnet partnered with CWIT for the pilot NOVA programme, which was formally launched on Friday last. Maire Hunt added: "CWIT exists to help women thrive in the tech industry, so they were a natural partner for the first NOVA programme." The inaugural intake in January includes 25 female leaders across domains such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, fintech, AI services, semiconductors, and enterprise technology. Companies such as Ergo, ADM, HPE, Workday, Kerry Group, ESB, Mastercard, Salesforce, BT, Accenture and Microsoft are represented. Commenting, Sabrina Staunton of Mastercard and CWIT, said: "CWIT exists due to the power of the network to attract, retain and promote females to thrive in the technology space in Ireland. We are excited to launch the first-of-its-kind development program to address the challenge of female talent retention across the Irish technology industry, through the power of partnerships built on our collective power to empower." NOVA includes modules on strategic thinking, future technologies, emotional intelligence, AI-enabled decision making, high-impact communication and personal leadership identity. Combining live workshops, one on one coaching and a leadership impact project, the NOVA programme blends in-person and virtual sessions, one on one coaching and practical insights. Held over a six-month period it is designed to build skills progressively and embed new leadership habits. Individual companies can also deliver the programme in-house for groups of female leaders. Version 1 is one example where the programme is contextualised for a fast-growing AI driven organisation. On 7th November, the OECD published a very significant statement of intent on Education for Human Flourishing (available here: https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/education-for-human-flourishing_73d7cb96-en.html). It is a conceptual framework that they say is helping to shape the international conversation about the future of education, national education policymaking, as well as the development of OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), and is the product of a significant collaboration among countries in the High Performing Systems for Tomorrow initiative (https://www.oecd.org/en/about/projects/pisa-high-performing-systems-for-tomorrow-hpst.html) I was very keen to explore this in more detail with the lead author and convenor of this work, Michael Stevenson. So I'm really happy to be able to bring you this episode where Michael and I talk though the development and structure of the framework itself, and explore some of its possibilities and pushbacks. Prior to founding and leading this important OECD initiative, Michael has led education at large global organisations such as the BBC and Cisco Systems, as well as directing major research projects, for example on learning ecosystems in Latin America, Africa and India, with Learning Planet Institute in Paris. The cost of water infrastructure projects have been rising as councils learn more details about what's required. Every council has now submitted their plan under Local Water Done Well programme. As Newstalk ZB first revealed last week, the final bill is now expected to reach almost $48 billion – about $9 billion more than first thought. Local Government New Zealand Vice-President and Gisborne Mayor Rehette Stoltz told Heather du Plessis Allan they've taken a more detailed look into costings over the whole ten years than they previously had. EnergyCloud, the Irish charity focused on energy poverty, has published the first of its monthly Wasted Clean Energy Reports. This is a monthly analysis of renewable energy lost and the missed opportunity to lift households out of energy poverty. In January 2025 the Government published the Programme for Government and committed to use surplus renewable energy, that would otherwise be wasted, to help those in fuel poverty, ensuring that the whole community benefits. Since this commitment over €414 million in renewable energy has been wasted, an equivalent of €1.3 million per day and enough renewable energy to have heated over 390 million tanks of hot water. This waste is occurring during a cost-of-living crisis when, according to the ESRI, 550,000 homes are in energy poverty and at a time when over 300,000 homes are in electricity arrears. En Côte d'Ivoire, en 2023, le ministère de la Femme, de la Famille et de l'Enfant a identifié plus de 16 300 enfants vivant dans la rue dans une dizaine de villes ivoiriennes, dont Abidjan. Ils dorment sur les trottoirs, survivent de petits boulots ou de mendicité… Des enfants livrés à eux-mêmes et exposés à la violence et aux abus. Mais depuis peu, les choses changent. Grâce au Programme pour la protection des enfants et adolescents vulnérables, des équipes sillonnent les quartiers pour leur tendre la main. Entre missions de rue, écoute et réinsertion, ces acteurs sociaux tentent de redonner une chance à ces enfants oubliés. De notre correspondant à Abidjan, Ce matin-là, des agents du Programme pour la protection des enfants et adolescents vulnérables arpentent les rues d'Abidjan. À bord de leurs véhicules, ils avancent prudemment, scrutent les trottoirs, les marchés, les dessous de ponts et les feux tricolores. Leur mission : repérer les enfants livrés à la rue. Parmi eux, Seaty Ebert, conseiller d'éducation. « Ce sont les mineurs qui sont recherchés. Celles qui vendent l'eau, qui ont l'âge d'aller à l'école et qui sont dans la rue. Et puis au niveau des jeunes garçons, ceux qui sont entre les véhicules en train d'essuyer les pare-brise. À vue d'œil, on les reconnaît », explique-t-il. Prise en charge des enfants au centre d'écoute et d'orientation du programme Quelques minutes plus tard, deux fillettes en train de mendier, un petit vendeur de chips, et un garçon fiévreux couché à même le sol sont identifiés. Embarqués dans le véhicule, les enfants se montrent d'abord méfiants. Ebert tente alors de les rassurer. « N'ayez pas peur, ne pleurez pas. On ne va pas vous faire du mal. C'est compris ! Votre place ce n'est pas dans les rues. » Direction Yopougon, au centre d'écoute et d'orientation du programme. Ici, les enfants mangent, reçoivent les premiers soins, puis sont suivis par des psychologues et des éducateurs. L'intérêt est de comprendre leur parcours, de recontacter les familles quand c'est possible, ou de préparer leur réinsertion. « Chaque enfant est un cas spécifique pour nous », précise Mamadou Touré, responsable dudit centre. « Si c'est un enfant qui a été déscolarisé, on a des écoles partenaires où on place l'enfant. Pour ceux dont l'âge excède 18 ans, on a des centres partenaires. On essaie de déceler le talent qui est le sien et on l'envoie vers cette formation. » Un réseau d'exploitation d'enfants découvert Le dispositif a permis de sortir plus de 4 000 enfants de la rue ces deux dernières années, assure le ministère ivoirien de la Femme, de la Famille et de l'Enfant. Mais les causes restent profondes : pauvreté familiale, violences domestiques, ruptures sociales. Pour certains enfants, revenir dans un cadre strict n'est pas une chose facile. Le sociologue Bini Koffi explique les résistances. « Un enfant qui s'est autonomisé dans la rue, qui a l'habitude d'agir seul et qui est libre de ses actions, si vous le remettez dans une situation familiale, que ce soit dans sa famille, ou dans un centre où il doit être orienté en terme de comportement, il est évident qu'il y aura un clash et il ne peut pas supporter. » Les maraudes ont aussi permis de mettre au jour un réseau d'exploitation d'enfants à des fins de mendicité, provenant de pays voisins. Fin 2023, 18 adultes ont été interpellés. Une enquête a été ouverte par le procureur de la République. Les enfants, eux, ont été confiés à leurs ambassades à Abidjan. The official launch of CyberQuest, a major new cross border project that will transform digital and cybersecurity opportunities for young people aged 16 to 25 across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, took place last week in Belfast and is supported by PEACEPLUS. The programme is delivered by The Bytes Project in partnership with REIM Training Solutions, YouthAction Northern Ireland, Springvale Learning and Foróige. REIM Training solutions a local company based in Castleblayney serve as the lead training partner for this ambitious and inclusive initiative. CyberQuest offers a full learning pathway that takes young people from digital basics through to industry recognised certification. The programme uses a hybrid, trauma informed and youth led approach designed to be flexible, welcoming and accessible. CyberQuest aims to strengthen confidence, improve resilience and support leadership development. It also creates clear routes into further education, apprenticeships and employment. Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald said: "CyberQuest is an ambitious and timely initiative that opens doors for young people to gain real skills, build confidence and take their first steps into meaningful careers in this high growth sector." Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless TD said: "CyberQuest will address a critical skills need while enabling access to education and training pathways for young people across communities." SEUPB Chief Executive Gina McIntyre said: "PEACEPLUS aims to improve access to inclusive and quality services in education and training. CyberQuest is an important step in that direction." Eimear Murphy, Managing Director at REIM, said: "CyberQuest is not just about filling the digital and cyber skills gap. It is about transforming lives, creating inclusive pathways, building resilience and leaving a legacy of knowledge and capacity within the youth sector."
