Between 1911 and 1912, entire families across Louisiana and Texas were slaughtered in their sleep with an ax — their bodies sometimes arranged in prayer, their blood drained into buckets, and cryptic messages scrawled on the walls. A 17-year-old girl confessed to 35 of the murders, claimed she belonged to a secret voodoo cult called the Church of Sacrifice — and then vanished into history.IN THIS EPISODE: A series of ax murders took place in Louisiana and Texas. Gruesome as they were, they began to horrify the public even more when they were admitted to by a teenaged voodoo priestess. Despite her confession though, a pair of authors say that there was someone else in the area at the time even more dangerous and who likely did most of the killing unbeknownst to even the voodoo priestess. That man is know simply as “The Man From The Train”. Plus, we'll look a few more gruesome ax murders that took place in the 1800s.CHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00:00.000 = Lead-In00:00:53.506 = Show Open00:02:28.706 = Voodoo Murders of Clementine Barabet00:17:52.092 = *** The Man From The Train00:33:05.318 = *** Ax Murders of the 1800s00:52:26.088 = Show CloseSOURCES AND REFERENCES FROM THE EPISODE…“The Voodoo Murders of Clementine Barnabet” (https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/2c5fcw) and “The Man From The Train” (https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/3fc77w4h) by Benjamin Welton for ListVerse“Axe Murders of the 1800s” by Elizabeth Yetter (https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/vjfc6dp6), and Josh Gotter (https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/367wz7rd) for ListVerseBOOK: “The Man From The Train: Discovering America's Most Elusive Serial Killer” by Bill James and Rachel McCarthy James: https://amzn.to/3fiuHhMWeird Darkness theme by Alibi Music Library. = = = = =(Over time links seen above may become invalid, disappear, or have different content. Christian, John Luke, Al, and Zach reflect on how objectifying women leads to far-reaching consequences, using David's downfall as a sobering case study. They examine how lust distorts responsibility, turns people into collateral damage, and quietly erodes families and faith long before the fallout becomes public. Al uses his own experience with infidelity in a marriage to point to hope rooted in Psalm 51, which urges repentance, humility, and restoration as the only path forward after failure. In this episode: 2 Samuel 11, verses 1–27; 2 Samuel 12, verses 1–14; 2 Samuel 12, verses 15–23; Psalm 51, verses 1–19; Genesis 1, verse 28; Genesis 39, verses 7–12; Exodus 1, verses 1–8; Revelation 12, verse 11; 1 Kings 2, verses 1–4; Ezekiel 23, verses 1–35 Today's conversation is about Lesson 6 of The David Story: Shepherd, Father, King taught by Hillsdale Professor Justin Jackson. AJ and Johnny reveal the single most important human skill to master in 2026 — and why it's the one AI will never replace: validation. As automation takes over the transactional side of work, the moments that matter most — the hallway conversation, the tense meeting, the post-date silence — depend on your ability to make people feel understood. This episode breaks down why being right often backfires, how “fixing” kills influence and attraction, and why validation is the real unlock for leadership, connection, and persuasion in the AI era. They share real-world examples from clients in tech, dating, and leadership, showing how one small shift in sequencing — acknowledging before advising — transforms every interaction. In this powerful and deeply personal conversation, Darin sits down with Hagen Thiers to unpack one of the most misunderstood journeys in health: why doing "everything right" still doesn't always work — and how true transformation requires decoding the body's survival signals, not fighting them. Hagen shares his remarkable physical transformation after decades of extreme metabolic adaptation, chronic gut inflammation, and stress-driven physiology. Together, they explore metabolism, inflammation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, protein intake, discipline, and why sustainable health is built through patience, self-leadership, and listening to the body's intelligence. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why extreme dieting and endurance stress can permanently slow metabolism How survival adaptation can block fat loss despite "perfect" habits The overlooked role of gut inflammation in weight retention Why fat is a protective organ, not just stored energy How leptin signaling and inflammation dictate fat loss resistance The difference between calorie math and biological reality Why healing must precede weight loss for many people How protein intake preserves muscle during fat loss Why discipline beats motivation every time The role of hyperbaric oxygen in reducing inflammation and restoring function How oxygen delivery impacts fat tissue, gut health, and recovery Why consistency over months—not hacks—creates lasting change How physical freedom directly impacts happiness and life quality Chapters 00:00:03 – Welcome to SuperLife and the mission of sovereignty and health 00:00:32 – Sponsor: Fatty15 and cellular health 00:04:14 – Introducing Hagen Thiers 00:09:43 – Hagen's transformation and why this conversation matters 00:11:26 – Doing everything right but still being stuck 00:13:28 – Discovering severe metabolic suppression 00:14:54 – Extreme endurance, starvation adaptation, and survival metabolism 00:17:04 – Why chronic calorie restriction backfires 00:20:56 – Gut inflammation as the real barrier to fat loss 00:22:41 – Healing before weight loss 00:23:26 – Fiber diversity, probiotics, and microbiome repair 00:24:30 – Enter hyperbaric oxygen therapy 00:27:57 – Why calories in / calories out breaks down 00:30:30 – Stress, inflammation, and metabolic shutdown 00:31:53 – Protein requirements and muscle preservation 00:35:47 – Discipline as a long-term lifestyle 00:38:54 – Eating frequency and metabolic signaling 00:43:39 – How hyperbaric oxygen works 00:47:31 – Why results accelerate after consistency 00:50:23 – 170 lbs lost and metabolic breakthrough 00:54:32 – Oxygen quality and chamber safety 00:58:22 – Breathwork vs hyperbaric oxygen 01:03:40 – Building an internal healing environment 01:05:05 – Life after transformation 01:06:42 – Discipline, the gym, and honest feedback 01:09:26 – Health as freedom, not restriction 01:11:39 – Inflammation as the missing piece for most people 01:12:45 – Closing reflections and hope for listeners Thank You to Our Sponsors Therasage: Go to www.therasage.com and use code DARIN at checkout for 15% off Our Place: Toxic-free, durable cookware that supports healthy cooking. The most consequential story remains Iran, where protests appear to be growing despite the regime shutting down the internet, a move that historically precedes lethal force. The scale of the demonstrations is difficult to verify, but the videos that do emerge suggest a population no longer content to absorb repression quietly. It is hard to separate this moment from the cascading effects of October 7, the regional dismantling of Hamas and Hezbollah, the fall of Syria, and the degradation of Iran's military capacity. Whether this becomes a true regime crisis is unknown, but it is unquestionably the most important story in the world right now.A Fatal ICE Encounter and a Nation Watching the Same Video DifferentlyDomestically, the killing of a 37 year old mother during an ICE operation in Minnesota has become a political Rorschach test. She was ordered out of her car, did not comply, put the vehicle in motion, and was shot by an ICE officer. Federal authorities have shut down any investigation, with Vice President J.D. Vance asserting absolute immunity. What is striking is not just the tragedy itself, but how confidently people draw opposite conclusions from the same footage. To Republicans, this is law enforcement under siege. To Democrats, it is evidence of authoritarian overreach. The incident hardens beliefs rather than persuading anyone new, which is precisely why it is politically potent.Texas Democrats and a Brutal Primary RealityThe Texas Senate race continues to clarify in uncomfortable ways for Democrats. Reporting suggests Republican maneuvering helped nudge Jasmine Crockett into the race, and the stylistic contrast with James Talarico could not be sharper. Crockett is relentless and confrontational. Talarico's first ad, by contrast, feels staged and overly polite. In a Texas Democratic primary, that is a problem. Style matters, and beating Crockett will require more than reasonableness. It will require a moment, a line, or a conflict that reframes the race entirely.Affordability, Power, and Trump UnfilteredDonald Trump's affordability push continued with a pledge to direct the purchase of mortgage bonds to drive down rates, paired with earlier proposals to restrict large institutional buyers from the housing market. Whether these ideas work is secondary to the political intent. Trump wants to be seen doing something on costs. His two hour interview with The New York Times reinforced that worldview. He openly dismissed international law as a constraint, embraced coercive diplomacy, and framed power as its own justification. It was Trump without the volume turned all the way up, which may be the most revealing version of him.Chapters:00:00:00 - Intro00:01:50 - Iran00:04:20 - ICEf00:11:59 - Texas Races00:16:11 - Interview with Reese Gorman00:52:23 - Update00:52:46 - Mortgages00:54:34 - Trump's NYT Interview00:56:54 - Tariffs00:59:00 - Interview with Stella Tsantekidou01:32:50 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. Everyone says farming and ranching are hard—but what if the real problem isn't expenses… it's how money is being used? In this episode, Mary Jo tackles the backlash around "excess money," breaks down why being debt-free isn't the same as being financially secure, and explains why cash flow—not comfort—is the real solution.

It's another Cowboys postseason press conference, which means plenty of smiles, sound bites, long explanations… and absolutely no real change. In this episode of Just Wondering, Norm Hitzges breaks down Jerry Jones' latest round of optimism, focusing on the Micah Parsons trade, the financial gymnastics that come with it, and Jerry's ongoing belief that he can “bust the budget” his way back to a Super Bowl. Norm questions whether trading elite defensive talent while handing out massive contracts elsewhere actually solves anything — or just pushes problems further down the road.Norm also takes aim at the Cowboys' strategic contradictions: a defense everyone admits was bad, a running game that actually worked, and an offensive approach that somehow ignored it. If your defense can't stop anyone, shouldn't your offense help protect it? Apparently not in Dallas. Then it's on to the numbers — the strange, fascinating, and occasionally absurd stats from this weekend's football games. From Carolina winning a division while being outscored, to San Francisco thriving without a pass rush, to Jacksonville's late-season dominance and the one number that decides whether Houston wins or loses, Norm connects trends, history, and logic in a way only he can.Dreams, data, and disappointment — just another week in Cowboys country. Political resistance is as old as injustice itself, fighting with tools that span from civil disobedience (boycotts, strikes, sit-ins) to armed struggle, challenging tyranny, colonialism, racism, and inequality through both nonviolent or violent means. Historically it has evolved from ancient community defiance to modern national movements like Black Lives Matter, utilizing culture, direct action, and grassroots organization. Key nonviolent strategies include passive noncooperation (e.g., sit-ins and boycotts) and active confrontation (e.g., U.S. Civil Rights Movement), with recent studies highlighting effective nonviolent strategies, like those seen in the Eastern European revolutions. We will look at the history of political resistance in the United States and make some recommendations for the current tumultuous times. The squad is back for 2026 with updates: Dave's Montana “Snow Report” (spoiler: none), Brit's contrarian love letter to CES, and Sam's new “serious 40-year-old” fashion era. We go rapid-fire through the biggest headlines from the past few weeks we were offline—OpenAI's health app, China cutting off the H200, and a wave of 2026 liquidity from SpaceX and AI that could mint centi-billionaires, or even trillionaires. Sam unpacks his viral 2026 memo, returning to a familiar theme from the pod: why narratives now matter more than reality, why seed should fund “infinity stories,” and how AI is turning software into consumable media. We also dig into the hot topic of the week—California's wealth tax and founder flight—plus AI partners, Claude-code mania, real-world clinical AI, America's hat discourse, and one very specific New Year's resolution (PS: this is why Sam is wearing a collared shirt). I'm opening 2026 by claiming clarity as my word for the year and sharing an honest reflection on where She Leads has been and where it is going next.In this solo episode, I share my personal journey after eleven years of serving women entrepreneurs through She Leads Media and what it means to step into a new chapter with sharper vision. A simple moment, getting new glasses, became a powerful metaphor for how deeply I'm craving clarity in my work, my focus, and the women I'm best positioned to serve. I talk candidly about the tension between wanting to help everyone and knowing that real impact requires intentionality, boundaries, and depth. At the heart of my work has always been deep listening, trusting that women already hold their own answers and need space, reflection, and support to access them.I also unpack the realities of entrepreneurship that rarely get airtime, especially for women. The same habits we bring into life, procrastination, self-doubt, resilience, show up in business, shaping outcomes for better or worse. Drawing from my teaching at NYU and Rice, I explain why foundational self-awareness matters more than any tactic or trend. I challenge the glossy, quick-fix narratives that dominate online marketing and speak honestly about the sustained effort and inner work required to build something meaningful. This episode is also a turning point. I reflect on my own realization that the current She Leads model will not reach the million-dollar scale needed to expand impact and why that matters. As I enter what feels like my third professional chapter, I share my vision for supporting women who have reached or are approaching seven figures and are asking deeper questions about purpose, burnout, and legacy. If you are craving clarity, wrestling with growth, or sensing that your next level requires a different way of leading, this conversation is for you. I invite you to listen in, reflect alongside me, and help shape the future of She Leads as we redefine what it means for women to truly lead with intention, sustainability, and impact.Chapters✨ 00:56 Welcoming 2026 with clarity and intention
The Robertsons address the decay of America's biggest and most beautiful cities, pointing to lawlessness, failed leadership, and what happens when humanity gives in to its darkest desires without restraint. Jase admits that trusting Amish healing advice briefly turned him into something resembling a human blowtorch. The guys explore the difference between idolatry and dominion, arguing that when people surrender control to creation instead of cultivating it under God, chaos follows. What Most People Get Wrong About Public Speaking (And How to Do It Strategically) What's the secret to getting paid for your perspective? From virtual events to in-person stages, paid speaking is an incredible way to grow your authority, gain visibility, and win over new subscribers and customers. But how do you land a quality gig? In today's episode, I'm sitting down with Jess Ekstrom, bestselling author, professional keynote speaker, and founder of Mic Drop Workshop to talk about just that. Jess is sharing exactly how speaking works today, how to price yourself with confidence, and how to turn speaking into a powerful growth lever for your business. We talk about what event planners actually pay for, why your story matters more than your pitch, how women can close the pay gap in speaking, and the smartest ways to negotiate so every speaking gig creates momentum beyond the stage. HERE ARE THE 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE: 1️⃣ Speaking Isn't About Selling Your Business, It's About Sharing the Lesson – People don't pay for an elevator pitch. They pay for the universal takeaway from your experience. Your business becomes the story that supports the lesson, not the headline of your talk. 2️⃣ Your Speaking Fee Is Based on Your Knowledge, Not the Size of the Stage – Audience size and talk length don't determine your rate. Your experience, expertise, and the value of your message do. Some of the highest-paying gigs happen in small rooms. 3️⃣ Every Speaking Gig Can Create Ongoing Business Growth – From bundling your course into your speaking fee to collecting leads with a simple QR code, speaking can fuel your email list, sales, and referrals long after you leave the stage. CHAPTERS: 08:49 – Why Paid Speaking Isn't About Big Stages 09:24 – How Speaking Fuels Business Growth Without Selling 13:16 – The Gender Gap in Paid Speaking 15:25 – What New Speakers Should Charge 17:20 – Why Audience Size Doesn't Affect Your Fee 24:17 – Speaking for Free vs. Getting Paid 27:04 – The Lighthouse vs. Spotlight Speaker Shift 33:46 – First Steps to Getting Booked 37:05 – Common Mistakes New Speakers Make 40:41 – How to Get Started with Speak On Stage RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: - Learn more about Jess Ekstrom and Mic Drop Workshop - Follow Jess on Instagram @jessekstrom - Watch Jess's TED Talk MORE FROM ME Follow me on Instagram @amyporterfield SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW If you loved this episode, please take a moment to subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcasts! A disheveled stranger sat down next to me at a London bar and claimed to be the Devil. By the time she finished telling me the truth about Hell, I believed every word.IN THIS EPISODE: It's the classic horror story, “The Man Who Returned” by Edmond Hamilton. Originally published in 1934, "The Man Who Returned" is an effective horror story. Since first transmitting its sad and cynical realism from the pages of Weird Tales, it has been reprinted in numerous collections of stories from that magazine, as well as in a 1980 volume entitled “Fear! Fear! Fear!” *** I've pulled out what I hope you'll agree is definitely worth the “creepy” part of creepypasta. It was found on Reddit, written by user AThousandRows. JJ French has lived the full arc of American heavy metal — from club-level survival to global legacy. As guitarist, co-founder, and longtime strategist behind Twisted Sister, JJ French reflects on what it actually takes to last 50 years in a business designed to burn artists out. This is not a nostalgia interview. It is a candid conversation about discipline, reinvention, timing, and truth. JJ discusses the early definition of success, why the UK embraced Twisted Sister before the U.S., the cultural divide between punk and metal at CBGB, the PMRC hearings and their real-world consequences, lineup decisions for the current era, and why the band is returning in 2026 for select 50th-anniversary performances. The conversation also covers milestone performances — including post-9/11 New York City shows, Sweden Rock 2022, and the Morristown Twisted Christmas concert — along with reflections on legacy, music licensing, health, and perspective earned the hard way. Chapters are included for easy navigation. Ep 241 | This week on Discover Ag, Natalie and Tara kick off 2026 with viral conspiracies, bucking bulls in Manhattan, and giant potato drops. A fear-mongering reel claims grocery store rice is actually plastic pellets — and people are buying it. The hosts debunk the conspiracy while highlighting a real rice crisis: Louisiana farmer Meryl Kennedy's White House meeting with President Trump about subsidized foreign rice undercutting American growers. Then, it's PBR week in New York City as Madison Square Garden transforms with 750 tons of dirt for three days of professional bull riding sandwiched between Knicks games. Plus, Taylor Sheridan's Landman inspires a TCU land management class, and Apple Girl Kate joins Mike Rowe and Theo Von for a Made-in-USA gift guide special. Finally, Boise rings in 2026 by lowering a 17-foot fiberglass potato — because who needs a ball drop when you can celebrate agriculture? The hosts explore quirky New Year's traditions from chili drops to atomic bombs across America, plus Dutch donut recipes, Tara's bucking bull dreams, and whether Theo Von is shooting his shot with Apple Girl Kate. How To Build Trust FAST With Content This one hit different… Fonzi came in hot with a question that had my brain on fire: How fast can we build trust with content? At first, I thought I had the answer. But wait ‘til you hear where this convo went… We broke down something we see ALL the time: people chasing views... but losing trust. We asked stuff like: What's content really supposed to do? Why are some videos getting tons of views but zero results for their businesses? And can a stranger trust you just from ONE piece of content? You might think it's all about going viral... But there's something way more powerful happening under the surface. We're sharing behind-the-scenes stuff we've never talked about before, like how we helped a creator with 20 million downloads and some things we implemented with their team to move the needle forward… fast! Welcome back to Marvel Us Disney for the first episode of 2026, where Jim Hill and Dan Graney kick off the year by looking at how Marvel is embracing chaos, memory, and unfinished business. From carefully timed leaks and legacy character returns to the stories and creators who never quite got their final chapter, this episode connects Marvel's current strategy to the people and moments that shaped it. Along the way, the conversation takes some thoughtful detours into Hollywood history, creator recognition, and one very famous Spider-Man movie that almost happened. NEWS • Marvel's early-2026 rollout leans into controlled chaos, with Avengers: Doomsday teasers, overseas trailer ratings, and leaks that feel increasingly intentional • The return of legacy characters like Steve Rogers, Thor, and the X-Men signals a broader strategy, not just nostalgia • Why Marvel's staggered teaser strategy may be quietly helping Avatar: Fire and Ash dominate IMAX screens • Disney+ quietly drops all episodes of Wonder Man at once, adding it to the growing list of well-liked Marvel TV “orphans” • A meaningful tribute to Jack Kirby in New York City highlights how recognition sometimes comes from community, not corporations FEATURE • The origin of James Cameron's unmade Spider-Man film, including scripts, tone, and planned villains • How Cameron's darker, more adult take on Peter Parker clashed with a legal maze of rights and lawsuits • Why this unrealized project still explains Spider-Man's endless adaptability across reboots and eras • How Marvel's biggest “what ifs” continue to echo through today's franchise decisions HOSTS • Jim Hill - IG: @JimHillMedia | X: @JimHillMedia | Website: JimHillMedia.com • Dan Graney - Website: thehubbubbery.com FOLLOW • Facebook: JimHillMediaNews • Instagram: JimHillMedia • TikTok: JimHillMedia SUPPORT Support the show and access bonus episodes and additional content at Patreon.com/JimHillMedia. There's a lot of noise in the investing world, but building wealth doesn't have to become a second job. In this episode, I share how to invest simply, consistently, and with your family's future in mind, without stress or constant decision-making. In today's episode, I sit down with Blake Edwards from Georgia, who has built an $865,000 net worth by age 31. Blake breaks down how intentional income growth, living below their means, and staying aligned as a couple helped accelerate their wealth. He also shares a transparent look at his family's assets, approach to generosity, and what generational wealth really means to him beyond the numbers. I wrap up with a Money Quiz, testing my son Calvin on Stranger Things revenue, compound interest, and the gap between race prizes and investment returns. If you want real-life inspiration and practical proof that calm, consistent investing works, even with a busy family and W-2 jobs, this episode will encourage you to stay the course and keep moving forward. Jesus gave a shocking end-times warning about how the world treats Israel. This message explains the “sheep and goats” judgment and why it matters now. Antisemitism is exploding across the world, and Scripture says it will crescendo before Jesus returns. In this episode of Tipping Point, Jimmy Evans delivers a prophetic warning centered on Matthew 25 and the “sheep and goats” judgment, explaining why Jesus takes the treatment of the Jewish people personally and why silence can be spiritually dangerous. This teaching connects Bible prophecy with what we're watching in real time, including the world's growing hostility toward Israel and the coming moment when Jesus separates the nations and exposes what was done, and what was refused, in Israel's hour of need. In this episode you'll learn: - Why antisemitism is a major sign of the times - What Jesus meant by “the least of these” in Matthew 25 - Why the warning includes sins of omission, not just open hatred - What it looks like to stand with Israel in practical, tangible ways - How believers should respond in this moment with courage and clarity Key Scriptures referenced include: Matthew 25:31–46, Joel 3, Zechariah 12, and Zechariah 14. This episode celebrates the 125th anniversary of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps by profiling four newly commissioned officers completing their Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC). The conversation highlights the diverse backgrounds and motivations of these future leaders, ranging from a former Master Sergeant with 22 years of enlisted service to first-generation college graduates and officers. By sharing their personal journeys, the guests illustrate the profound commitment required to balance the dual roles of a soldier and a healthcare professional. The officers discuss the core values that define their service, emphasizing respect, compassion, and the need to maintain professional balance. They detail the rigorous training and mindset shift required to move from bedside nursing to military leadership, where readiness and adaptability are paramount. The interviews reveal that the Army Nurse Corps provides unique opportunities far beyond traditional civilian nursing, including roles in command, specialty practice, and global broadening assignments. A central theme throughout the episode is the "limitless" nature of a career in military medicine. Whether transitioning from a combat medic background or starting fresh through ROTC scholarships, these officers are driven by a desire to impact the lives of service members and their families worldwide. Their stories serve as an inspiring testament to the enduring legacy of the Nurse Corps and its critical role in medical readiness. The final takeaway is one of optimism and professional pride. As these officers prepare for their first duty stations, they demonstrate a readiness to face the challenges of military medicine with enthusiasm and dedication. This episode provides a comprehensive look at the professional development, personal sacrifice, and high-level leadership that characterize the next generation of "WarDocs" in the Army Nurse Corps. This balance is essential for maintaining readiness and providing high-quality care across diverse environments, from state-of-the-art hospitals to austere settings. Diverse Pathways to Professional Growth: The military offers robust career progression models that allow individuals to advance from enlisted roles, such as combat medics, to commissioned officer roles, such as Nurse Practitioners. These pathways demonstrate the Army's commitment to internal development and provide a platform for long-term professional fulfillment and leadership. Commitment to Medical Readiness and Adaptability: A core requirement for military medical officers is the ability to adapt to rapidly changing assignments and maintain constant readiness for deployment. This flexibility ensures that the healthcare team is always prepared to support the needs of the unit and the nation, regardless of the location or timeframe. Foundational Values of Respect and Compassion: The success of the Army Nurse Corps is built on core values such as respect for patients and peers, as well as a deep spirit of empathy. These values shape the military healthcare culture and are vital for building trust with service members and their families during critical moments of care. Global Impact and Limitless Career Opportunities: Unlike civilian nursing, a career in the Army Nurse Corps provides expansive opportunities in command, broadening assignments, and international service. This "limitless" potential allows officers to impact the broader Department of Defense mission while honing specialized clinical and leadership skills.
