What if one of the most overlooked indicators of brain health is something we rarely think about—our sense of smell? In this Living to 100 Club episode, Dr. Joe Casciani speaks with Jonathan Askholm about the emerging science of olfactory health. We spotlight its surprising connection to cognitive function, mood, and overall well-being. While vision and hearing loss receive widespread attention, smell loss often goes unnoticed—even as it may signal deeper neurological changes. Jonathan shares insights from recent research showing how olfactory training—simple, daily exposure to specific scents—has surprising benefits. It may help strengthen neural pathways, support memory, and even reduce depressive symptoms. The conversation explores why smell declines with age. Also discussed is how it affects quality of life, and why this “forgotten sense” deserves a more prominent role in healthy aging strategies. Listeners will come away with a new appreciation for the role of smell in brain health. And listeners gain practical ideas for incorporating olfactory awareness into daily life.

“Send Coach John a message”I found this great post from Art of Thinking (@Art0fThinking) with the help of Snoopy (from the Peanuts cartoon). These 6 habits of happy people are things we should all strive for. They are: Don't Show Off, Talk Less, Learn Daily, Help Less Fortunate, Laugh More and Ignore Nonsense. Each and every one of these are things we can always strive to connect with more and more in our lives. There are many things that go with each of these as I share just a few of each. I hope to take these with me each and every day! Thanks for listening. Siân Pottok Happy People (Underdog Records) 2026 Facebook / Instagram / YouTube

Hello Beautiful, I'm so grateful you're here with me.
Love isn't what most people think it is. It's not a bond between partners or family, according to Dr. Barbara Fredrickson – it's a micro-moment of positivity that resonates in your body when you connect with someone, even with strangers. And the research is clear: The more of these moments you create, the happier and healthier you'll be. Read the article.Love 2.0 book***I'm your host, Sarah Mikutel, a communication and mindset coach. I couldn't stop thinking about this interview with Jessica Joelle Alexander – and honestly, I haven't stopped since! As a mom and as someone who teaches kids to cook and helps families connect around the table, I was deeply struck by how peacefully and intentionally Danish families seem to live: more play, less pressure; more “we,” less “me.”In this episode of the podcast, I'm talking with Jessica Joelle Alexander, author of The Danish Way of Parenting and The Danish Way Every Day. This is part two of our conversation, and we're digging into:what hygge really is beyond candles and cozy blanketshow Danish families use mealtimes and simple food to build connection instead of conflictwhy involving kids in cooking and chores from toddlerhood can actually feel like playthe powerful idea of equal dignity and seeing our kids as true members of the family teamhow all of this helps children “rest well within themselves” and grow a deep, quiet sense of contentmentIf you've ever felt torn between giving your kids a “real childhood” and preparing them for success, or if you're tired of power struggles around food, chores, and screens, this conversation will feel like a big exhale. Jessica offers such a hopeful, practical picture of family life that isn't about striving and measuring, but about raising kids who genuinely feel at home in themselves.Let's dive into part two!Resources We Mention for Danish ParentingJessica's books: The Danish Way of Parenting (Amazon/Bookshop.org) and The Danish Way Every Day (Amazon/Bookshop.org)Building Strong Families, Connected Kids with Father Leo of Plating Gracemy No More Picky Eating Challenge3 Reasons Giving Your Kids Responsibilities Is a GiftHow to Raise Siblings Who Love Each OtherFind Jessica at her website Jessica Joelle Alexander or follow her on social: Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTubeGrab the four free life skills workshops right here. ► Playlist du jour : - Siân Pottok - Echoes of the ancestors - Siân Pottok - Shine a light.

The Habit of Happy People Speaker: Michael Shockley, ReCreate Church Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Episode Summary In this second Thanksgiving week message, Pastor Michael vulnerably shares his recent struggle with ingratitude and stress that led to chest pain and an ER visit. Through 1 Thessalonians 5:18, he discovers that the command to "give thanks in everything" isn't about pretending life is okay - it's about trusting God no matter what happens. Gratitude isn't just better than ingratitude; it's what transforms our hearts and lives. Key Points - "Give thanks IN everything" means being thankful no matter what happens, not FOR everything that happens - God doesn't cause painful things, but He can bring good out of anything that happens - Thankfulness is God's will for us because it's genuinely good for our physical, emotional, and spiritual health - The real question: Do we worship God, or do we worship the idea that God owes us an easy life? Main Takeaway It's not happy people who are thankful, but thankful people who are happy. Gratitude changes our perspective, strengthens our faith, improves our health, and transforms our lives. When we choose thankfulness even in difficulty, we tap into a greater truth than our circumstances. Memorable Quotes - "It's not happy people who are thankful, but thankful people who are happy." - "Blessings whisper and problems shout." - "With God, the bad stuff is more than just bad; it gets turned into a plot twist that ultimately works out to a greater ending." - "Thankfulness helps us frame everything we experience as being in The Hands of a God Who Loves Us." - "If you think God owes you an easy life, then you're always one traffic jam away from a ruined day." - "Do we really worship God, or do we worship the idea that God owes us an easy life?" - "Happiness is having Jesus and being thankful." Reflection Question Are you living like God owes you an easy life, or are you choosing gratitude even when circumstances are difficult? Tune in to hear Pastor Michael's honest confession about his ER visit, why pumpkin pie counts as breakfast, and how the elders' prayer transformed his perspective on stress and gratitude. This Is How Happy People Think October 17, 2025 | Episode 5205 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Ever wonder why some people seem happy no matter what life throws at them? It's not rose-colored glasses. It's not pretending problems don't exist. Happy people have a completely different way of looking at the world, and you can learn it in about seven minutes. Scott breaks down the five ways happy people think differently, starting with one truth that'll change everything: if you're alive, you have problems. The real question is what you do with them. Featured Story Scott gets real about his own happiness journey, including the day he quit drinking because it was "making me fat and stupid." He also admits his biggest frustration as a podcast host. Spoiler: it involves you not listening to episodes he worked hard on. But here's the twist. Even that frustration doesn't make him unhappy. Because he's figured out the secret happy people know about problems, action, and what it really means to shake things up. This isn't your typical motivation talk. It's coffee shop wisdom that actually works. Important Points Happy people don't pretend problems don't exist—they accept that being alive means dealing with challenges every single day. Getting frustrated is normal, but happy people know frustration means they're actually living and shaking things up instead of staying stuck. You don't have to solve every problem out there, just the important ones, then get a great night's sleep and do it all over again. Memorable Quotes "I promise you this. When you die, you will have no problems." "Dealing with problems is a privilege of being alive." "Nothing will make you happier than moving. And you can start that right now." Scott's Three-Step Approach Accept that you're alive and problems come with the territory—stop fighting reality and start working with it. Stand up and shake things up even when you're unhappy, because movement creates happiness, not the other way around. Take responsibility for solving your important problems, let the rest go, and repeat tomorrow because that's the real reward. Connect With Me Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Thought-provoking Quotes: “Let the top rung of the ladder be your sincere convictions. That's the one to keep sturdy, clear, and visible, and hold that one as tight as you can.” – Jen Hatmaker “Anchor your feet into the ground and stand in this storm. Let it rage. Weather it, weather your own discomfort, weather everybody else's discomfort and whatever loss or change comes along with it, because it will end, and there will come a day when it is not that chaotic and what you will be left with is your integrity and that is enough.” – Jen Hatmaker “Women are capable of getting through the hardest things. Maybe it's a trope because it's true. Maybe the women who are betrayed grieve and recover and rebuild because that's what women do. So maybe it's not such a surprise that we can flourish.” – Amy Hardin “I'm just convinced, this is the time for us to reinvent. Look how awesome we are.” – Jen Hatmaker Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce engagement post - https://www.instagram.com/p/DN02niAXMM-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MTQ4YWwzOGcycWJlcA== [ENCORE] When the Truth Goes Viral: The Cost (and Benefit) of Living Honestly with Jonathan Merritt - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-64/encore-when-the-truth-goes-viral-the-cost-and-benefit-of-living-honestly-with-jonathan-merritt/ Awake: A Memoir by Jen Hatmaker - https://amzn.to/3VnMb0k The Interview: Jen Hatmaker's Life Exploded in Middle Age. In this episode, we're interviewing the talented jazz vocalist and songwriter Andy James. Known for her expressive phrasing and flamenco-inspired flair, Andy has carved out a unique space in contemporary jazz —and her latest album, Happy People, is a radiant, genre-blending celebration of just that: joy, connection, and groove. Andy's musical journey has taken her across the globe and into the studio with some legends, including the late, great jazz icon Chick Corea, who she was a close collaborator with. A passenger flying from Charlotte to Denver freaked out on an American Airlines flight. Jamie has a list of habits that make happy people have. According to the list BJ is the happiest person on our show!
Jazz Vocalist Andy James has just released her eighth studio album. It's on Le Coq Records which is an independent label started by James and her husband Piero Pata, not only as a vehicle for releasing her music but also to work with acclaimed veteran jazz musicians including John Patitucci, Nate Smith, Terell Stafford, Alex Acuna, Rick Margitza, Chico Pinheiro, and many more. This latest recording is a fusion of jazz and flamenco music called, “Happy People.” You might ask why the blend of jazz and flamenco? Here's where the story gets really interesting. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Andy heard both jazz and flamenco music at home. Her mother was a jazz vocalist and her father an aficionado of Flamenco music. At a young age, she fell in love with dancing, and particularly flamenco, but instructors were scarce in Australia. In order to pursue her passion, Andy moved to Spain to study flamenco and went on to become a world acclaimed flamenco dancer. So, what influenced her to take a 180° career turn move to United States to become a jazz vocalist? That's where we pick up the rest of this story in our conversation.

Josh Peck rose to near-instant fame when he starred on Nickelodeon's hit show, Drake and Josh. But while he tried to maintain his role as the funniest, happiest kid in every room, Josh struggled alone with the kind of rising anger and plummeting confidence that quietly took over his life. For the first time, Josh reflects on his late teens and early twenties in his memoir, “Happy People are Annoying.” Coming of age under a spotlight that could be both invigorating and cruel while being raised by a single mother, Josh filled the cratering hole in his self-worth with copious amounts of food, television, drugs, and all of the other trappings of young stardom. Until he realized that the only person standing in his way... was himself. Today, with a string of lead roles on hit television shows and movies, and one of the most enviable and dedicated fan bases on the internet, Josh Peck is more than happy – he's finally, enthusiastically content. "Happy People are Annoying" is the culmination of years of learning, growing, and finding bright spots in the scary parts of life. Originally published in March of 2022.
