Carol and Jessica talk about dealing with grief and early sobriety together. Carol talks about choosing one-on-one therapy as her main source of healing from addiction, and working on childhood trauma as a recovering adult. She shares the real-life tools that helped her get through her first year sober, and lists off tons of resources for our listeners, including movies, books, podcasts, and blogs. She also gives newly sober people a reason to redecorate (hint: it's all about creating new spaces, literally and figuratively). See below show notes for all of the great resources Carol mentions. Today, Tammi and Sondra catch up with Chris Aguirre. Chris is the co-host of the Since Right Now podcast, curates the recovery site Klēn&Sōber and this year will celebrate his twentieth year of sobriety. They talk about what it's like to work in the online recovery space while finding time to address mental health, his own creative projects, and what it's like to be a stay-at-home, sober Dad. Chris is candid and funny and we really appreciate the platform he has built and the creative recovery community he has helped to foster. This week Chris shares three items from his Unruffled Toolbox: (1) Exercise; (2) Meditation; and (3) Making creatively fulfilling work.

Today’s guest, Chris Aguirre, has been in recovery from alcohol and drugs since 1997. From firsthand experience he knows sobriety may be simple but is not always easy. Chris shares an interesting recovery story and brings a unique perspective to his conversation. For Chris, recovery wasn’t connected to a treatment program or sustained by traditional methods. Though he followed an untraditional, somewhat ill-advised path to his recovery, his eighteen year sober journey has been reflective and elightenting. It is in conjunction with his perspectives of past and present that Chris has made a commitment to be a resource to those who are dealing with their addictions. In our conversation, Chris comments on: His own challenges dealing with the addiction of a loved one; The joy that comes from witnessing others grow in their sobriety; The power that comes with positively reflecting on your past without trying to hide or forget it; How he found contentment in recovery and life. We are often blessed by the gifts from those who share their stories and experiences in the conversation and this is certainly one of those enlightening ones! Enjoy! It began not with a bang, but with a whimper. I have exhumed the very first expression of Since Right Now and have recommitted it to the record for posterity and the completists.
