Who says you must only read leadership books for professional development?! In the spirit of Halloween, Kevin and Michael Lang, US Army combat veteran and author, analyze Stephen King’s groundbreaking book, Salem’s Lot, the story how the forces of good combat a town under siege by forces of darkness. They break down the plot of the story, examine key characters, analyze events, and discuss the different methods of writing and storytelling. In this second episode, Kevin and Mike dive deep into five central characters and key scenes: Father Callahan, the disillusioned priest who is finally able to exercise his purpose. Jimmy Cody, the doctor who must learn to balance science with the supernatural. Salem’s Lot, the town seeped in evil and that attracts the worst behaviors. Richard Straker, the human henchman who does his master’s bidding. Barlow, the Master vampire, who is in direct conflict with the hero protagonists. The letter scene, where the protagonists learn their adversary is much smarter than they thought. Mark’s escape scene, where King masterfully takes us into life-and-death situation, inch by inch. The beginning of the Kitchen scene, where Mark and Father Callahan are confronted by Mr. Barlow.

Hello Dear Listeners, Summer is in full swing and we are releasing an episode that wasn't recorded this past winter!  We hope this episode will keep you creeped out as you travel for your summer fun.  Maybe you can bring us with as you visit a ghost town or check out a haunted house. This week Katya and Laramie discuss Stephen King's Salem's Lot, (specifically the 1979 TV miniseries directed by Tobe Hooper).  Laramie discusses the horror of vampirism and why Salem's Lot shows us that the sexual appeal of vampires is scarier than anything.  Katya and Laramie also discuss if the events of Salem's Lot could take place today and the terrifying parallels between vampirism and drug addiction. Also, Katya and Laramie discuss many of Laramie's wonderful works of art, what Katya has been up to these past several months, and why language matters so much in horror and life. **Clinkies** Katya and Laramie

For her feature film directorial debut, actress/producer Helen Hunt chose this adaptation of the Elinor Lipman novel, Then She Found Me.  It took 10 years to get it to the screen and only wound up getting funded when Hunt agreed to star in the lead role and bring her friends Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler and Colin Firth in to play the other leads. The supporting cast is peppered with great New York actors -- Lynn Cohen, Ben Shenkman, John Benjamin Hickey, Geneva Carr and Robert Lupone -- and quick cameos from the likes of Tim Robbins, Janeane Garofalo, Edie Falco and Salman Rushdie.   Dan and Vicky discuss the romantic comedy and give their opinion on whether Helen Hunt pulls off her passion project.  Dan also catches us up on his work travels -- from Saratoga Springs to Paris -- and Vicky gives us a quick health check.  We hear about all the cool stuff they've been watching, from the top of Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain to the dusty pit of Mad Max's Thunderdome; from the heights of Lucio Fulci's Don't Torture a Duckling to his bloody vision of hell, The Beyond.  There's also lots of love for comedian Maria Bamford and her Netflix series Lady Dynamite and the film adaptations of Stephen King's Salem's Lot and The Mist. Helen Hunt may have a problem getting pregnant in Then She Found Me but Hot Date 32 is ready to pop!  Take a listen and leave us some feedback.
