(4:00) Vinnie loves the 4-day routine. (13:00) It includes both "to failure" days and less-intense days that are still effective workouts. This allows you some flexibility. Childhood playgrounds of a couple of decades ago are very different than today's equipment. (18:00) Your body adapts over time; however, Vinnie explains that flexibility is built into the workout. (28:00) Life gets in the way, and missing a workout once or twice every 3 months or so won't be a problem. But if you miss more than that, you will not see the results you want. What about ab exercises? (33:15) Vinnie only does abs on pull days or leg days. The Winter Olympics are on, and this leads to talking about the sport of Curling. (38:00) The biggest mistake a person can make with these workouts is *not* doing them. (46:00) Find ways to make the most of your time. Use your time well. There is such a thing as *over* exercising. You need to have active rest days. (48:00) "Active rest" is movement such as walking, skating, or other activities between strength-training days. Send a textWellness culture didn't start with Instagram. From George Cheyne's 1724 bestseller to Dr. Lulu Hunt Peters redefining fat bodies as "the enemy within," the methods and ideology haven't changed in four centuries—even as the evidence proves they've never worked. In this episode, I trace wellness influencers back to the 17th century, exposing how former fat people turned their weight cycling into moral crusades, transforming fat bodies from "friendly jokes" into threats deserving punishment. These aren't just historical curiosities—they're the architects of today's war on ob*sity, and understanding their playbook helps us see modern wellness influencers for what they really are: unoriginal copycats parroting 400-year-old nonsense. Here's what she had to say dealing with imposter syndrome: “The imposter syndrome never goes away. There's not a pill for it that you can take. I've been lucky enough over the last few years is to learn exercises that help bring me back to say, hey, that's imposter syndrome. The GRETAGRAM book club is officially in podcast form! Host Greta Johnsen talks to Nina McConigley, the author of How to Commit a Postcolonial Murder. Her novel is the GRETAGRAM book club selection for February. It's about two teenage sisters who decide they must kill their uncle. While this book is intense it's also funny and strange -- or, as Nina puts it, cheeky! Nina talks about the weirdness of growing up in an immigrant family in Wyoming, the complicated legacy of colonialism, and the nostalgic power of Noxema.SHOW CREDITSCreator and host: Greta JohnsenSenior Producer: Ben GoldbergComposers: Ross Bellenoit and Jeremy ThalShow art: Mac MacleanSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Send a textCersei makes the only play she can. She wisely confesses to most of her crimes, that have already been verified by other witnesses anyway, but denies the big ones. For those questions, trial by combat will determine her guilt. Uncle Kevan reports wholesale changes in the Small Council. Mackelly and Simon weigh her chances.Chapter Review:Queen Cersei Lannister hates her jailors, three dour septas. But they break her down and she is ready to confess. She's brought before the High Septon. She admits to her infidelities, but denies the big ones: incest, treason, reicide, and deicide, all of which Osney Kettleblack implicated her in, under torture. The incest one is awkward for the High Septon. It is Stannis Baratheon's accusation and he has fallen in with a false god. He puts his faith in trial by combat to determine her guilt or innocence. She is finally allowed a visitor; her uncle Kevan Lannister. He's angry with her corruption of his son Lancel. And brings only bad news: Jaime has not returned, he was last seen cavorting the Riverlands with a woman believed to be Brienne of Tarth. The Tyrells and Tarlys have come to town to defend Queen Margaery, against whom the High Septon admits the case is weak. Kevan has assembled a whole new Small Council filled with nobody who cares for Cersei.Worst of all is the news that Myrcella has been wounded in Dorne. Cersei blames Tyrion. She asks Kevan to work with Qyburn to get the right man into the Kingsguard to defend her honor.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Cersei Lannister - Dowager Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Mother to King Tommen. The High Septon - Leader of the faith. Known as the High Sparrow for his piety and commitment to poverty.Kevan Lannister - Uncle to Cersei, new Hand of the King.Lancel Lanniser - Son of Kevan, former lover of Cersei. Now a convert to the militant branch of the Faith of the Seven.Qyburn - Disgraced maester of the citadel. Ally to Cersei.Margaery Tyrell - Wife to King Tommen. On this Tuesday edition of 5 Clubs, Gary Williams is joined by Emilia Doran, live from Riviera, to reflect on the dramatic finish at the AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach and preview The Genesis Invitational at one of the PGA TOUR's most iconic venues.Emilia shares her perspective from inside the ropes on what separated the best players at Pebble, including Scottie Scheffler's late Sunday charge and Collin Morikawa's return to the winner's circle. Drawing from her experience walking alongside the game's elite, she explains how decision-making, commitment, and shot variety continue to define performance at the highest level, and how working alongside a caddie can make the difference in pressure moments late in a round. The conversation then shifts to The Genesis Invitational at Riviera, where Emilia breaks down why the course remains one of the TOUR's most respected tests and how softer conditions could impact scoring this week. She also discusses how being around the world's best players has shaped her own approach to competition and course management.Later, USGA President Fred Perpall joins Gary to discuss the continued growth of the game and how new players are entering through non-traditional formats before transitioning to green-grass golf. He also shares insight into the USGA's anchor site strategy for the U.S. Open and how the USA Development initiative is helping create opportunities for the next generation of elite American golfers.Gary closes with this week's Book Club, featuring The Inner Game of Tennis and The War of Art, two reads focused on performance, mindset, and managing pressure.5 Clubs airs on Golf Channel and SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio (Channel 92).0:00 Opening Thoughts 5:42 - Venues on the PGA Tour10:58 Emilia Doran 27:36 Fred Perpall44:23 Book Club

The article examines learning that occurs through ball games in Swedish Physical Education and Health (PEH), challenging critiques that such activities overemphasise competition and performance. Drawing on observations and interviews with upper‑secondary students, the authors show that ball games foster both subject‑specific learning (skills, techniques, rules, and game understanding) and generic knowledge such as cooperation, care, fairness, and inclusion. Using a non‑affirmative theory of education, the study highlights that student participation and learning increase when competition is de‑emphasised and unfamiliar game forms are used, prompting a re‑articulation of learning objectives in PEH.CITE to the article:Modell, N., Gerdin, G., & Schenker, K. (2026). ‘That's how we all learn to get along'–learning in and through ball games in Swedish Physical Education and Health. Curriculum Studies in Health and Physical Education, 17(1), 1-15.

(8:00) This relates to GLP-1 in the fact that there is nothing you can do that doesn't cause a consequence somewhere else. (11:30) Vinnie discusses dealing with his second bout of cancer a couple of years ago. He is determined to be as active and healthy as possible. Eating strict NSNG seems to have helped him fight cancer more than if he had not been eating clean. (12:00) If you lose weight the old-fashioned way through proper eating, about 20-25% of your weight loss will be muscle. (16:00) However, that can be offset with exercise, particularly strength training. With GLP-1, a person will lose at least 40% of their muscle mass. (17:00) This matters because a lack of muscle contributes to all-cause mortality, and you can die sooner. Sarcopenia (natural muscle loss) occurs with age, typically starting around age 35, but it can be significantly slowed with strength training. (18:00) The number one drug Vinnie used to get asked about was statins, but now it's about GLP-1s. (21:00) If a person is losing a lot of muscle on GLP-1s, you can bet it's affecting their heart, because the heart is muscle. (25:00) Anna shares some info she's heard recently regarding Dr. Ben Bikman. (27:30) Some Thoughts About Fiber There is also debate about fiber. (36:00) They discuss myths about fiber and whether it is as necessary as others have claimed. Anna shares a story that makes her super happy about her cookbooks. (46:00) Vinnie is trying a week off from eating cheese, but he's wrapping up the week with Anna's Cheese Bites for the Super Bowl. (48:30) They conclude the episode with a discussion of discontinuing GLP-1s. Talk to your doctor for the proper protocol. American culture is a breeding ground for predator's like Jeffrey Epstein and his cohorts because the powerful are protected by corruption and our collective cowardice. The Epstein list reveals how predators curate alibis by surrounding themselves with people who'd never suspect, choosing bystanders as strategically as victims. American culture doesn't help because it sends contradictory sexual messages at young people, creating confusion predators exploit. Most bystanders who suspect abuse choose easy over right, justifying silence with "it's not my place" while children get hurt. We're exploring literary fiction where love takes centre stage, but the reward is complexity rather than a guaranteed happy ending.Nearly Departed manages to combine the enjoyable tropes of Rom Com with the thoughtful exploration through writing that we associate with literary fiction. We explore how Lucas's real-life experiences—witnessing a fatal cycling accident and his father's first wife dying young—shaped the book's exploration of love, loss, and second chances, and the art of balancing humour with heartbreak while playing with rom-com tropes.Of course, we've got plenty of recommendations for love stories with emotional depth, including Lily King's Writers & Lovers, Andrew Kaufman's All My Friends Are Superheroes, Kazuo Ishiguro's The Remains of the Day, David Nicholls' Sweet Sorrow, Douglas Stuart's John of John, and hot-book-of-the-moment Wuthering Heights. We're also discussing Boys Book Club, the organization Lucas has co-founded to encourage men to read and talk about books. What makes a great book club pick for an all-male book club? We're going to be finding out. We've even got Valentine's recipe – rigatoni with a long-simmered ‘Sunday sauce' – and a couple of cocktail ideas. All in all, the perfect ingredients for a literary Valentine's weekend.Become a member of The Book Club Review communityJoin The Book Club Review community on Patreon for ad-free listening, extra episodes, Kate's weekly reading diaries, the opportunity to connect with other listeners in the chat groups, and at the higher tier to talk books in-person with Kate at the monthly book club. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen chapter 38, narrated by Isaac BirchallSubscribe on YT or Join the Book Club on Patreon and support me as an independent creator :Dhttps://ko-fi.com/theessentialreadshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfOFfvo05ElM96CmfsGsu3g/joinSummary:Mrs. Jennings is full of praise for Edward after hearing the news of all that passed between his family and himself. The Dashwood girls are still recovering from the news, however. After a few more days pass, the weather is surprisingly very good, and the whole city seems to go to Kensington gardens, and Elanor and Mrs. Jenning's go to see them. After a few minutes, they come across Miss Anne Steele, who seems very pleased to see them. Mrs. Jennings begs Elanor to ask Anne about everything that passed between Edward and his family since they were kicked out. And after confirming that neither Lady Middleton nor Mrs. Jennings are upset with her or her sister, Anne goes to tell Elanor about everything that happened between Edward and her sister. Three days passed before Edward visited Lucy, he apparently stayed in an inn and gathered his thoughts. When he came to Lucy, he announced that he would understand if she broke the engagement off, as he now has no money, but Lucy said that she wouldn't. Anne proclaims that they are very happy together, and Edward intends to go into orders as soon a possible, after he finishes some business in Oxford. Anne then lets out that she was listening to this information from the other side of the door. Elanor is disgusted by Anne and tries to change the subject, but Anne continues on. Eventually she meets her friends again and leaves Elanor with Mrs. Jennings, to whom she recounts Anne's information to. The following morning Lucy sends a letter to Elanor, thanking her for he kindness, and tells her that she and Edward are very happy together, and asks that if she knows anyone looking for a curate, that she should put Edward forward for it…SEO stuff I don't want to do. Jane Austin's timeless classic Sense and Sensibility follows the story of two girls, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, and their endeavors in love, marriage, and societal expectations. Love is not easy however, and Elinor finds her sense tested by her charming brother-in-law, while Marianne's sensibility brings her nothing but heartbreak.

They explored themes of desecration, the supernatural, and the island's role as a burial mound for naval casualties. The characters' unsympathetic and mechanical interactions, particularly Jonathan's brutal treatment of the sheep, contributed to the story's grim outcome. The group also examined the story's connections to historical and literary references, including the scapegoat tradition and the poem "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner." Exploring 'The Sea Change The group discussed Clive Barker's short story "The Sea Change," focusing on its unsettling themes and narrative elements. They explored the story's depiction of the afterlife, where souls are trapped in decomposing bodies, and the role of ritual offerings to appease the dead. The conversation highlighted the story's use of onomatopoeia to describe the sea's movements and its symbolic representation of death as a circular process. The group also discussed the characters' unlikable nature and lack of friendship, as well as the open question of whether the ritual would need to be repeated by future generations. Scapegoats" Symbolism and Adaptation The group discussed the story "Scapegoats," focusing on its themes of emotional emptiness and crossing thresholds into unknown spaces. They analyzed the symbolism of the sheep and the characters' disregard for rituals and obligations. The conversation concluded with a discussion about the potential for an animated adaptation of Clive Barker's "Books of Blood" series, though rights issues would make such a project challenging. Clive Barker's Scapegoats Discussion The group discussed Clive Barker's "Scapegoats," noting its detached narrative and themes of ennui. They explored artistic depictions of the story, including a Dave McKeon cover and a Steve Fabian painting. Ryan announced upcoming episodes on Clive's Contemporaries and a new interview with Michael Pumetiz, who is also developing a Nocturnity movie. José shared insights on the Portuguese fishing community and its superstitions, drawing parallels to the story. The group also discussed the challenges of recording interviews and the potential for a movie adaptation of Pumetiz's work.

RHLSTP Book Club #169 - This Way Up: When Maps Go Wrong (and Why It Matters) - Rich meets one of the Map Men, Jay Foreman to talk about the fantastic book he's written along with Mark Cooper-Jones about maps and what happens when they go wrong. They chat about the murky story of how the Map Men got together, why they are so many stories around maps, why Richard couldn't watch Tiswas in Cheddar and how young people don't know how lucky they are, trying to navigate through London using a map of Paris, how an inset box on a map affected the US/Canada border, the non-existent town that suddenly came into existence (or did it?) navigating by testicles and medieval satnavs. Buy the book here - https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/this-way-up-when-maps-go-wrong-and-why-it-matters-map-men/b6f8a72cb55c007bSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. In this jaw-dropping edition of Dirty Little Secret from The Jubal Show, one caller admits to a surprising relationship that started at their grandmother’s book club — and quickly crossed unexpected lines. What really goes into a presidential visit? In this episode of Book Club, Michael sits down with Jean Becker and Tom Collamore to discuss their new book, "Don't Tell the President: The Best, Worst, and Mostly Untold Stories from Presidential Advance." From George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan to Barack Obama, Becker and Collamore pull back the curtain on the high-stakes world of “advance” work — the behind-the-scenes operatives who plan every detail of a president's public appearances. The conversation features unforgettable stories, including the controversy over a papal backdrop, the infamous Dukakis tank photo, assassination attempts on President Ford, a royal riser mishap with Queen Elizabeth II, and even Smerconish's own unexpected detour into a Brussels brothel while advancing Vice President Bush. It's a candid, entertaining, and revealing look at the moments that shaped presidential history — and the unsung professionals who made (and sometimes nearly broke) them. Original air date 11 February 2026. The book was published on 3 February 2026. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. As a follow-up from our episode on storytelling, we our Winter 2024 Book Club explored Dr. Susan Schneider's 2012 opus, The Science of Consequences, as an example of taking the hugely important concept of learning through consequences and making it understandable to the wider public. But hey, while she was at it, why not explain how consequences impact evolution, or gene expression, or social improvement strategies. And add multiple examples of how consequences work in labs and the natural environment across a wide range of human and non-human species. And make it fun to read! But before our crack Book Club squad dives into the nitty gritty of the content, we had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Schneider herself to ask how she managed to take millions of years of the effects of consequences and pack it into a 300+ page book as well as how her study of consequences informs her current work as a climate change policy advocate. This episode is available for 2.5 LEARNING CEUs. Content discussed in this episode: Schneider, S.M. (2012). The science of consequences: How they affect genes, change the brain, and impact our world.
