In this installment of Bad Book Club, Julia and Eliza read the sacred word of Lori Alexander, aka The Transformed Wife, who walked so all trad wife influencers could run. The girlies unpack Lori's memoir, in which she preaches biblical womanhood and reveals the brain tumor that made her submit to her husband. Plus, helpful life lessons like always say yes to sex, reuse your children's bathwater, and never have shit to say to anyone. Digressions include Lana's recent Sylvia Plath tribute, Eliza's long-awaited return to the plant of unfathomable joy, and the three types of divinely ordained men (allegedly). Book Club episodes discuss and review one book per episode. This week, it is Runnin' With The Devil by Noel Monk, "A backstage pass to the wild times, loud Rock, and the down and dirty truth behind the making of Van Halen". Noel Monk was their manager from 1978 until 1985, when he was unceremoniously fired by the Van Halen brothers, and this book lays out all the dirt that was thrown about during that timeframe.Check out our main website for all info, videos, and episodes:https://www.sweetchildoftime.comPlease support the show athttps://patreon.com/mlmpod.comJoin us at our Marsh Land Media Discord channel:https://discord.gg/aRdKmv9YbcOur podcast is brought to you by Zencastr! Rupert Sheldrake joins us for a wide-ranging conversation that begins with psychedelics and quickly opens into bigger questions. Why do some experiences feel “more real than real”? What happens when the familiar boundaries of self dissolve, and the world returns charged with meaning, beauty, and presence?Along the way Rupert reflects on his own encounters with psychedelics, the long ritual history behind them, and why he thinks they're just one doorway into a much larger landscape. From dreams and near-death experiences to prayer, music, nature and the possibility that mind might not be contained by the brain, this episode doesn't aim to settle the questions so much as to sit inside them — and see what they reveal.Following the interview, Nomad hosts Tim and Joy reflect on curiosity, caution and the strange tension between breakthrough moments and slow formation. From therapy and music to dogs, dreams and those hard-to-explain moments of connection, they explore what it might mean to live in creative puzzlement before a world that still feels charged with mystery.Interview starts at 13m 5s. Most HSPs think they're being assertive when they're still stuck in passivity or passive aggression that feels icky. Until my thirties, invisibility was my whole strategy, gold medal people pleaser, total Gumby for whatever anybody wanted. Growing up in dysfunction taught me to keep peace, avoid shame, never rock boats, and my nervous system still confuses distance with actual danger by filling gaps with zero evidence. Real assertiveness interrupts all that projecting our past onto new people, it says I will state my reality and see what happens instead of mind reading or assuming. Passivity just gathers resentment while passive aggression creates confusion, but assertiveness? It gathers clarity. Light and love. He says that he has business with Elanor, and in her shock to this answer, allows him to speak. He asks if Marianne is really going to be okay, stating that he heard from one of the servants that she is better. Elanor, because of his attitude, thinks that he is drunk. He says that he had a pint at Marlborough; he rode from London that day. He says that he has come to tell his story, and hopes that by telling it, both she, and Marianne will forgive him. He starts his story by saying that he had no intention of having Marianne fall for him. He only wished to spend his time in Barton in a more pleasant way. He says that since his youth he had expensive habits and friends, and that he accumulated a lot of debt. Because of this, he was determined to marry someone of extreme wealth. This is why he did not attach himself to Marianne at first, but he claims that as time went on, he did fall for Marianne. But he could not marry her, as she had no wealth… He calls himself a fool. He says that he had determined to tell Marianne about his affection, but Mrs. Smith had found out about Willoughby's connection with Colonel Brandon's ward, and because of this threatened to cut him off unless he married the girl. As she had no money, he couldn't do it, and thus, had to leave Barton for London. He seems to deeply regret having hurt Marianne too much and even goes on to claim that she was the first girl that he ever loved. He continues his story by saying that he believed it would be easy for him to get with Miss Grey, his current wife, and that it nonetheless caused him a huge amount of pain to see break off with Marianne. He then goes on to talk about Marianne's letters. He says that he was deeply pained by the letters and knowing that Marianne was in town was like lightening. He would have loved to have seen her, but he knew that his attachment to the girl would have ruined his plans to marry rich to escape from his debts. He tried all that he could to avoid the Dashwood's but eventually they were brought together by Sir Middleton… After this encounter, Miss Grey suspected that Marianne was the girl who truly had his heart, and when the final letter came to him, and she saw her name on the note, she read the note aloud. She forced Willoughby to write his letter to Marianne, to give back her notes, and her lock of hair. He goes on to say that his marriage to Miss Grey is not a loving one, it purely one of convenience and finance… He is a very pitiful figure, and Elanor forgives him for his terrible behaviour. He finishes by saying that the worst day of his life will be when he hears of Marianne's marriage and then leaves then house.SEO stuff I don't want to do. Jane Austin's timeless classic Sense and Sensibility follows the story of two girls, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, and their endeavors in love, marriage, and societal expectations. Love is not easy however, and Elinor finds her sense tested by her charming brother-in-law, while Marianne's sensibility brings her nothing but heartbreak.

Welcome back to Women Petprenuers presents Book Club! In this episode, hosts Mary Oquendo, Sacheen Mobley, and Denise Heroux for a lively book club discussion. This week, the trio dives into Marie Forleo's bestseller, Everything Is Figureoutable. Listen in as Denise Heroux shares why she chose this book during a difficult period in her life, and why its empowering message resonated with her. Mary Oquendo and Sacheen Mobley weigh in with their own takes—critiquing the self-help genre, discussing the practicality (and limitations) of Forleo's approach, and reflecting on the pivotal opening chapter about Forleo's mother that left a lasting impression. From self-help skepticism to the enduring power of mantras and how timing in life shapes our connection to certain books, this candid conversation is full of heartfelt stories, honest disagreements, and a shared appreciation for the journeys we all navigate as women entrepreneurs. Grab your coffee, settle in, and get ready for honest reflections, differing viewpoints, and the big takeaway: sometimes, just believing everything is figureoutable can help us through even the toughest times.

One habit that has created some of the most meaningful conversations in our home is something surprisingly simple: family book club. It's not formal or complicated. Sometimes it's just reading a book over a few weeks and sitting down on a Sunday to talk about it for twenty minutes. But those conversations have opened the door to ideas and discussions that might never have happened otherwise. Recently, our family read the classic How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and it sparked one of the most practical conversations we've had in a long time. At first glance, the title sounds like it's about influencing people out in the world—at work, at school, or in business. But as we talked about it together, we realized the principle that stood out most actually applies right inside our homes. One of the central ideas from the book is simple: don't criticize, condemn, or complain. Criticism might feel productive in the moment, but it usually puts people on the defensive. When someone feels attacked, their instinct is to justify themselves rather than grow. Encouragement, on the other hand, creates openness. When people feel valued first, they're far more willing to listen and improve. Chris shared a couple recent experiences with our kids' sports that brought this lesson into focus. After a game, his instinct was to point out what they could have done better. The intention was good—he wanted to help them improve—but the criticism didn't land the way he hoped. Instead of helping, it left them discouraged and defensive. The next time, he tried something different and simply told them how much he loved watching them play. What surprised us was that later they came back and asked for feedback themselves. When people feel encouraged first, they become much more open to influence. That conversation led us to a realization we've been thinking about a lot lately: a person to be loved is always more important than a problem to be solved. As parents, it's easy to focus on fixing things—behavior, performance, mistakes. But when the relationship comes first, growth tends to follow naturally. And when we get it wrong (which happens often), modeling repair—apologizing, resetting, and trying again—can be just as powerful as getting it right the first time. For us, the real value of family book club isn't just reading the book—it's the shared experience of learning together. Whether it's through books, videos, or conversations around the dinner table, creating moments where a family learns together can shape the culture of a home in ways that last far beyond the conversation itself. Sam Leith's guest on this week's Book Club podcast is the historian Jane Rogoyska, whose new book Hotel Exile: Paris in the Shadow of War tells the bloody story of the Second World War through the lens of Paris's Hotel Lutetia – following a cast of exiled intellectuals through the febrile 1930s, the increasing horrors of the war and occupation, through to the devastating aftermath as waves of prisoners returned from the camps. She tells Sam how she came to this unusual approach, how the connections between her cast of characters proliferated, how close Samuel Beckett came to a concentration camp – and about falling a little bit in love with Walter Benjamin. What if the best way to solve problems… is to stop them from happening in the first place? In this episode of The Agent of Wealth Podcast, the Bautis Financial team discusses another book in their Book Club series: Upstream: The Quest to Solve Problems Before They Happen by Dan Heath.Through real-world examples and insights from the book, the team explores why organizations often get stuck reacting to problems instead of preventing them — and what it takes to shift toward upstream thinking. In this episode, we discuss:Why many problems persist due to the “diffusion of responsibility” — and how assigning clear ownership is critical to preventing recurring issues. How “tunneling” keeps individuals and organizations stuck in reactive mode, constantly solving urgent problems without addressing the root causes upstream. Why changing outcomes often requires redesigning systems — not just asking people within those systems to work harder or behave differently. How identifying leverage points, early warning signals and meaningful metrics can help organizations detect problems sooner and measure whether prevention efforts are truly working. And more!Tune in for a thoughtful discussion on how upstream thinking can lead to better decision-making, stronger systems and fewer crises — whether you're running a business, managing a team or simply trying to improve processes in your everyday life.Resources: Episode Transcript & Blog | Upstream: The Quest to Solve Problems Before They Happen | Bautis Financial: 8 Hillside Ave, Suite LL1 Montclair, New Jersey 07042 (862) 205-5000 | Schedule an Introductory CallWant to be a guest on The Agent of Wealth? TO PURCHASE VINNIE'S WORKOUT VIDEOS, CLICK THIS LINK: https://vinnietortorich.com/workout Bang for Your Buck Vinnie had a consult with a woman focused on ultra-running who trains hard. However, the harder she trains, the harder it becomes to succeed. (2:45) Vinnie (and other coaches she has hired) has told her she's training too hard. She needs to focus on what she's doing when she's *not* in the game. (14:00) He uses his own training history as an example. Optimal training happens in Zone 2, low and slow. (21:00) Training with a planned "down" schedule helps your body recover better and build endurance. (27:00) The process is similar when doing anaerobic exercises (weight training). (28:45) It makes sense to scale up cardio, then bring it back down, but how does that work for strength training? (31:50) Vinnie's workouts follow a periodization plan, which allows for proper recovery between workouts. What should people be doing on their "rest" days? (37:00) Doing aerobics, like a good walk, is "active rest." Mobility exercises are an option as well. Pilates is good for strength, but it also works the body differently, so adjusting Pilates workouts may be necessary to accommodate weight-training workouts. Meaning, you don't want to focus on the same muscle groups two days in a row. (38:00) Vinnie advises what to do on your "off" days to get the most bang for your buck. (43:00) You can usually find used equipment on places like Facebook Marketplace. Interval training is also a good addition. (47:00) He explains what a "four by four" is, which is a form of HIIT (high-intensity interval training). Happy 10th Anniversary, ABA Inside Track! Yes, after 10 years of laughs, research discussion, and podcasting, we're finally reaching the Tin-phase of the show (because we're so durable). Though, beyond our long-winded trips down memory lane, we're still here doing what we do best: Creating amazing discussions about topics and research that matter to behavior analysts. Plus a Book Club! We kick the month off with some special guests including Dr. Kathleen Feeley who brings us up to speed on supporting children with Down syndrome using ABA methodology, and friend of the show, Dr. Casey Clay, who shows us how to extend preference assessment technology to the social interaction realms. Finally, we wrap up our regular episodes with a dip into OBM by reviewing the research on using public posting to improve employee performance. Then, our Spring Book Club sprouts with a very timely discussion of "The Anxious Generation" by Johnathan Haidt with Book Club Guy, Alan Haberman. It's Book Launch Day!!!Jennie pulls back the curtain and shows us exactly what it looks like to fight the lies in real time. This episode is raw, vulnerable, and powerful - a front-row seat to what spiritual warfare actually looks like.If your life is built on “I am worthless,” “I am unlovable,” or “I am helpless,” it will shape every decision you make. But there is another story. You are not helpless. You are not worthless. You are not unlovable. And you don't have to fight alone.

Compliance and scaling up manufacturing needs are important. Vinnie won't work with a company unless it is GMP- and NSF-certified. GMP is Good Manufacturing Practices. NSF is the National Science Foundation. Supplements can be suspect if they are manufactured in a facility without GMP or NSF practices. Certifications can matter and can also be abused.
