(Laramie, WY) - University of Wyoming running back Sam Scott is soaking in his senior season. "Being my last year, I get to embrace all the moments that are hard but I also get to look back at them while I'm going through them and recognize this isn't always going to be part of my life," Scott told County 10 at UW Media Day. Scott appeared in 10 games last year and had 4 starts, rushing for 435 yards and averaging 4.7 yards per carry. In 2025, he's projected to be the Pokes top running back. (Laramie, WY) - This time last year, Wyoming fans were preparing to see Evan Svoboda taking snaps under center. In 2025 the 6'5 251lb senior will move to tight end for the first time ever, making way for sophomore Kaden Anderson as the top quarterback on the depth chart. "Everything's new. It's all foreign to me," Evan told County 10. "From running routes, to blocking people, to hitting people every play. It's all been different but it's been a really fun journey and I'm looking forward to it." Evan said he didn't expect to ever play tight end, but that it's a good fit, "I'm naturally a big, physical person so it's been a relatively good transition." Svoboda's commitment to the program was admired by many Pokes fans. In an era where the transfer portal is used regularly, the Cowboy decided to keep playing for the brown and gold after losing his spot as QB1. "I think it's been instilled in me from a young age, definitely from my parents and my environment. I was given an opportunity to be here so I'm going to make the most of my opportunity." (Laramie, WY) - University of Wyoming football strong safety Andrew Johnson is no stranger to altitude. The Cheyenne-native and Central High School graduate plays at the division one campus with the highest altitude in the nation, 7,220 feet above sea level. After his final season on the gridiron, his goals go even higher. "I've loved aviation since I was a kid," Johnson told County 10 at UW Media Day Monday in Laramie. He explained that he spent much of his off-season flying around Wyoming and Montana, marveling about flying over the Tetons and Big Horn Mountains. "Now, my goal is to become a fighter pilot." Later joking that his favorite movie is 'Top Gun.' While ambitions to become a fighter pilot seem lofty, Andrew has already crossed off his first major life goal. Wearing the brown and gold. "It was my dream since I was a kid. It was everything I ever wanted to do. So when Coach Bohl gave me the opportunity to do so, it was the easiest decision of my life." The former Central High wide receiver and defensive back appeared in 11 games for the Pokes and started 5 of them last year. He recorded 19 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles. This season, he's expected to be a leader on the Cowboy defense. "We're bringing that toughness back to Wyoming football," Johnson said about summer camp. "Something that I experienced a lot in my early years here and that's something we need to maintain and bring into the season." Catch our full chat with Johnson in the player below! (Laramie, WY) - "Nobody remembers us when we win, but they sure do when we give up a sack," Wyoming senior center Jack Walsh joked with us at UW Media Day Monday. The Cowboy has plenty of opportunities to be remembered for a very long time on the football field this year however. He was added to both the Lombardi Award Preseason Watch List, which is given to college football's best lineman (offense or defense) and the Outland Trophy Preseason Award Watch List, which goes to college football's best interior lineman. Walsh is moving from right guard to center this season too, a position he hasn't played regularly since 8th grade. But Jack's team-first attitude makes him excited to lead the guys up front. "I wanna be a source for the young guys, someone they can look to and trust to give them good advice, that's my main goal being an older guy, whatever someone needs help with on or off the field that's what I'm there for." Walsh smiled and told us last few practices have been fun, but exhausting, "It's been very physical. Coach Sawvel wants to see us play some football, see what guys are made of. But it's been fun. You have to do those things to get prepared for the season." Wyoming football kicks off August 28th at Akron. Every Pokes game can be heard on the radio in Fremont County on KOVE, 1330 AM and 107.7 FM! Listen to our chat with Jack in the player below or via the County 10 Sports Podcast!

(Laramie, WY) - The countdown to the University of Wyoming football season continues and we were able to spend a couple minutes with the man in charge of the defense, Aaron Bohl. Aaron enters his second year on the job, but has been with UW as a linebackers coach since 2017. He is the son of former Wyoming Head Coach, Craig Bohl. To sum up summer/fall camp for Wyoming in a word according to Bohl, it's been physical. "We've laid out a clear line this off-season what we need to be like, if you don't wanna be in that footprint that's okay there's other schools for you. We wanted to make sure that the guys were here bought into that message and the guys we were bringing in would buy into that message." Wyoming football kicks off the regular season August 28th at Akron. Every Wyoming game can be heard in Fremont County on KOVE Radio, 1330 AM and 107.7 FM! In this week's basketball coaching conversation, Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks joins the Basketball Podcast to share insights on his teach and reach philosophy and the six championship factors. In his first year at Green Bay, Wicks was named the 2023-24 Horizon League Coach of the Year. He was also named the Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year, which is presented annually to the top rookie, first-year head coach in NCAA Division I college basketball. Last season, Wicks posted an 18-14 record after the program finished at 3-29 prior to his arrival in 2022-23. That 15-game turnaround tied for the ninth-best turnaround in NCAA DI history.Wicks spent three seasons at Wyoming under former head coach Jeff Linder. The Cowboys reached the NCAA Tournament in 2022 finishing the season with a 25-9 overall record. The Pokes received their first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament since 2002 and marked the first trip to the Big Dance since 2015. The Pokes recorded 24 wins in the regular season for the most since the 1951-52 campaign.Prior to his time in Laramie, Wicks was the head coach at Missouri Western for two seasons. Wicks led the Griffons to 18 wins in 2019-20, as it was the most by the program in 10 years. He spent eleven years as an assistant at four different colleges, including Northern State, Colorado, Northern Illinois, and San Francisco.Wicks also built the Arizona Power Basketball Academy, serving as a skill instructor and director from 2011-15. Prior to launching the APBA, he spent five months training NBA pre-draft prospects at the Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas. Wicks' draft class trainees included Kawhi Leonard, Alec Burks and Isaiah Thomas. He began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northern State under the legendary Don Meyer.
(Laramie, WY) - County 10 caught up with the guy that's projected to be the University of Wyoming starting quarterback this season at Media Day Monday in Laramie. Kaden Anderson started 3 contests for the Cowboys last year, but appeared in 9 games total. The sophomore threw 6 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and had a 58.3% completion percentage. Though Anderson is a Texas-native, he's fitting in well this year in Wyoming. "Nothing better than a summer in Wyoming," he told County 10. "I love the outdoors, I love fly fishing, caught some really big trout this summer so I was really excited about that." And as quickly as he declined to answer where his favorite fishing spots were on mic, he was equally as fast to tell us he's excited about the Pokes chances this year. "We look really good, high energy, great intensity in practice. I feel like the vibe is different than it was last year." Expounding that the team is "eager to practice" and that "pads are poppin.'" Wyoming opens the regular season August 28th at Akron. Every Wyoming game can be heard on Fremont County radio via KOVE 1330 AM and 107.7 FM. (Laramie, WY) - Monday was Media Day at the University of Wyoming as various members of the region's radio, tv, print and digital outlets chatted with athletes and coaches. It's not often that the wide receiver coach gets a lot of attention at the event, but 2025 was different with the return of an all-time Cowboy great, Jovon Bouknight. Jovon played for the Cowboys from 2002-2005 and racked up over 3,600 receiving yards, placing him as the third best UW receiver in the category (behind only Marcus Harris and Ryan Yarborough.) After graduating, the Denver native began the shift from receiver to mentor. He's spent time coaching at Marshall, Kentucky, Oregon, Texas Tech and Utah State before returning to Laramie. “It is a full circle moment as it all started here at the University of Wyoming,” Bouknight told reporters when he first returned. “It is great to be back in the saddle with familiar faces with our student-athletes and coaches that have so much love and passion for this program. I'm ready to hit the ground running and go back to the foundation and fundamentals.” Coach Bouknight told County 10 at Media Day about some of his favorite memories as a UW athlete, "obviously the Vegas Bowl (2004) sticks out. I was only fortunate to win one Border War, so I think about that one from my sophomore year." Jovon said it's helpful to remember his playing days to instruct this 2025 group of Cowboy receivers, especially when it comes to the eventual cold weather. "It makes us unique, the mental aspect and being mentally tough about it. Understanding that it can play into your favor in late November if you're prepared for it." And the Pokes newest coach says while there's still some improvement he'd like to see before the August 28th opener at Akron, he's thrilled with the wide receiver room so far. "It's been going good. I think the energy is really high, guys are flying around. A couple guys that are new are working some kinks out. For the most part we're doing really well. The focus the next couple weeks is who's going to step up and make plays." To listen to the full chat we had to with Coach Bouknight, hit the player below! Eric Ambel's career got its start in "the first punk band in Wyoming" in the 70s. Imagine trying to launch a music career from Laramie! He eventually becomes the guitarist in the Blackhearts with Joan Jett, but opts not to sign on (the job went to recent guest Ricky Byrd) and goes on to form the Del-Lords with former Dictator guitarist Scott Kempner. They released four albums in the late 80s (two of them produced by Neil Giraldo) before calling it quits. From there Eric focuses more on his solo career, touring with other acts, and production work which has him collaborating with people like Steve Earle, Mojo Nixon, Ellen Foley, Nils Lofgren and a bunch more. "Roscoe" is still at it too and has a story to tell. Enjoy! Eric Ambel The Hustle Podcast | creating podcasts | Patreon

On October 7, 1998, a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence in the hills outside Laramie, WY, savagely beaten and left to die in an act of brutality and hate that shocked the nation. Matthew Shepard's death became a national symbol of intolerance, but for the people of Laramie the event was deeply personal and it's their voices we hear in this stunningly effective theater piece. Moises Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project of NYC made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the murder andconducted more than 200 interviews with people of the town. From these interviews as well as their ownexperiences Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater members have constructed A deeply moving theatrical experience. The Laramie Project chronicles the life of the town of Laramie in the year after the murder, using 8 actors to embody more than 60 different people in their own words--- from rural ranchers to university professors. The result is a complex portrayal that dispels the simplistic media stereotypes and explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable. My guest today is Stephen Belber, one of the Tectonic Theater Project members responsible for THE LARAMIE PROJECT.

Back in the 1930's, a trading post swapped Northern Arapaho artifacts for food and other basic necessities. Decades later, a descendent opened boxes in a storage room of the Episcopal Church in Laramie, Wyoming. There, she found a photo of her grandfather, Chief Yellow Calf.“And so I talked to my grandfather, and I said, 'Grandfather, is there something that I'm supposed to do here? Show me. Guide me.'”80 years later, the church has finally returned the artifacts to the tribe. We attend the ceremony.
